While eyeing this giant anteater, a photographer noticed a feline predator approaching. A large male jaguar quietly approached, appearing ready to pounce. Interestingly, the jaguar simply observed the anteater, choosing to watch it instead of devouring it. A researcher for the Pantanal Jaguar Project says this is not as uncommon as one might think. In the Pantanal, less than five percent of the jaguar’s diet consists of anteaters. Instead, the big cats often prefer hunting caiman, capybara, and peccary. This lucky anteater will live to see another day.

  • Misconception, giant anteater wasn't lucky. It's a fearless animal, ready to engage in the fight with jaguar or any other predator. It's courage is so high that in many cases it will attack first. It is not afraid of jaguar not even a bit. Jaguar has to be very hungry to fight with male anteater. They are capable of killing jaguars, and there are records which prove this. Upper body of anteater is very strong, and it has needle sharp 4-inches claws which can inflict some serious damage. There are many videos where jaguar retreats after feeling a strong hug from anteater. This jaguar was actually weighting anteater, hoping that it has some weakness.

    • There’s no way that anteater could’ve killed the jaguar. Idk why so many people seem to think that anteaters are so strong, I mean all they literally eat is ants. Jaguars will jump into a lake and kill a 6 foot caiman. It has the strongest bite force of all big cats. There’s no way an anteater would be able to kill an adult jaguar.

      @berserkmaster2514@berserkmaster25143 жыл бұрын

Anteaters however, can, as they would grapple with the jaguar in the struggle, and proceed to use their claws to make puncture wounds. An anteater has big claws and a very good sense of smell so not only is it risky but getting close Enough for an ambush is even harder and anteaters don't have much meat on them for their size so the risk of getting cut open isn't worth it and anteaters have been documented killing Jaguars and last time I checked giant anteaters make up about 3.2% of a Jaguars diet.
