He won 3 European Cups with Ajax at a row, went to a world cup final with the Netherlands, was a Barcelona legend who stopped for the first time in 20 years Real Madrids domination, won the ballon D'Or 3 times in a row, became then a coach and rebuilt FC Barcelona which became a powerhouse. He reformed La Macia where players had then the opportunity to play based on talent instead of height(which made it possible for Pep Guardiola, Xavi, Iniesta and Messi to get accepted), won them their first champions league in history. Without Cruyff, there wouldn't be the Barcelona we knew during the 2000's and early 2010s.

    • @@vassilyvodka2638 Thanks for your post above. I felt a compulsion to reply exactly what you did, so it saves me the energy and effort. Anyone who trolls with such a question as as 'who is Cryuff?' is an infant who doesn't know his place is back in the play-pen with 5yr olds and certainly not pronouncing the great man's name. I had the opportunity to watch in wonder Johan Cruyff the player and then in even greater wonder observe how he organised play as a manager through his very young midfielder Pep. It felt like there was telepathy occurring between the two. The way Pep organised the team's attack was the thing of beauty, quite apart from them scoring goals. For me football isn't about scoring goals, it is rather how and what you achieve beforehand. Cryuff did that as a player, then through Pep the player and now Pep continues this as a manager. As Pep himself said "Johan Cruyff built the cathedral, it is our duty to maintain it". Through Barcelona, through Pep, through Xhavi, through all the players and managers he impacted from near and afar, Cryuff is the most important influence on the game in the last 45yrs. No other person comes close to his importance.

Be it the the Barca Team he coached (the best club team imo), the Bayern Team even or now this city team; you can see what he does to the players and to the game itself. • Pep is the best of this era but is pretty much a carbon copy of Cruyff. Don’t think I’m hating as I’m not, Pep and his love for football and tactics will eventually take the moniker of best of all time, but he has some way to go. As of now, Jock Stein is the best manager of all time. Only European quadruple ever (when Scottish football actually had quality, unlike now) and he done so with a whole squad from the local area, the furthest away one came from was 30 miles. That’ll never ever happen again, nothing will come close. He then reached the 69/70 final again but lost out to a revolutionary Feyenoord side.

    • @@Greg-SurgeEquityResearch even Bob paisley achieved more in his Liverpool tenure than pep has for city! 20 trophies, 6 league titles, 3 ucl, 1 uefa, 1 supercup, 3 league cups, 6 charity shields not that relevant? But pep considers them important. With this expensively assembled squad today another chance to get the maiden ucl? Rivalry aside he deserves one for city!

    • @@Greg-SurgeEquityResearch I understand what you are saying and I humbly agree. But in this day and age, where every club has all the resources, albeit Pep has them too, not saying he doesn’t, but he’s brilliant. He lives football. And that’s what I like. And although he’s on the same philosophy as of Cruyff, but he has taken an already amazing philosophy a step beyond and that’s not easy whatsoever. Anyways, cheers to life and football mate! 🥂

I think usually these decisions [like Gundogan] come down to personal things like family. The team has made it clear they want the both of them. Portugal, Germany and England are different culturally and sometimes a person misses home or is not super attached to a foreign country.
