Thank you ABC News for the latest news.
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and the worst earthquake I've been in was in 1989 and it was 6.9 magnitude. Parts of freeways and the bridge collapsed. We lived up on a hill overlooking the Bay and our house didn't have any damage, it just rocked back and forth. Our house was on a major fault line too. I moved to central CA and rarely feel anything higher than a 3.0 now (thank god!).
I remember that, it interrupted the world series
I was in California’s Bay Area. In San Jose on a job interview lol 😝 6.9 the asbestos panels and overhead light panels were banging and the ceiling panels falling out! It was a ro. The bay bridge cracked open . Freeways 🛣️ collapsed. The World Series had begun in San Francisco so freeways were relatively empty. Some cars were crushed. Some deaths. Took many many months (18 plus) to repair.
Yes it was so unbelievable.
My sister lived there and had a dream about the earthquake the night before.

Do you know what we call a 4.8 earthquake on the West Coast? A foot massage. 😉

I've been in probably 30 earthquakes throughout my life. There's shakers & there's rollers. That one looked like a shaker. 4.8 is substantial.
I'm from California so you know I've been through them. I don't mind the ones that roll with a mild shake. However, a jolt or horrific shaking STILL affects my nervous system. Lol
Joseph's right. 4.8 is substantial. Living in northwest L.A. I've been through quite a few myself. The rollers you feel you can 'ride out' a lot better, and they're less scary than the violent shaking. When we have or hear about 4.0 earthquakes out here, they're usually no big deal with minimal damage. 4.5 is starting to get serious, and each point above that is bad. 5.0's are very scary. After the extremely severe January '94 Northridge quake, we had after shocks in the 5-6 range. I got caught off guard that March in an aisle of the Sherman Oaks Thrifty Drug Store when a 5.1 aftershock hit. The lights went out and glass bottles were crashing all around me. A bad place to have been roller or shaker, this was the latter. I just held on to one of the shelves til it stopped and got out shortly after uninjured. Very lucky under the circumstances.

A shaker, for sure. I was in bed, and I was bouncing up and down! 🙂
I’m never getting used to it here in South Carolina. I’ve never felt them but they’re in a couple places around me and I think eventually it’ll get here.

Why isn’t the company of the ship that hit the bridge responsible for for paying for a new bridge?
1851 law..only has to pay = to the value of the vessel and her cargo
The owner of the boat? Why not the repairman?
I wish the news would answer this question
Oh my god! How can you people be so dumb!? You can not dock a ship anywhere without insurance. They had port insurance, or they wouldn't have been in the port.

There's a new threat alert in the country that has Homeland Security and the FBI on edge? Well, thank God our southern border is as secure aa it has ever been. I'm glad tens of thousands of military age men from countries that wish us harm have not been able to slip in the past 3 years.

Dear East Coast friends. When you feel an Aftershock or an earthquake please...stop running outside of the building! Get under a sturdy table or in a doorway. All the best from your friends on the West Coast.
Their buildings aren't built to code like ours on the west coast. They are prehistoric vintage old 1800's structures. They would be crushed if they waited it out inside, I fear. I understand our earth quake shakeout program pnw practice here but their building structures aren't the same! Also, subways & stuff underground. They need to do what feels right depending on the building or structure they are in. Protect your head at all costs! Don't panic.
@@Hello-its-Me-Fair but I don't know. Some of the worst damage we had in Seattle during the last sizable earthquake was in Pioneer Square with historic brick buildings. The damage was outside with bricks falling onto the sidewalk. I think that's why I thought about staying inside being the better option.
@KateWitt I remember it like yesterday outside of Seattle Wa. about & hour ish north. I remember exactly where I was on that very day. It's truly a crap shoot. Some of their beautiful historical buildings, especially looking at 1800's style buildings, I truly worry about. It wasn't too long ago rain & wind brought down a building in the Bronx's. 3 months ago, actually. It was on the news. Those are the ones I speak of taking me chances on & going outside, but covering your head at all costs!
@@Hello-its-Me- Yes, I live in a building built in 1885 even the facade has been renovated through out the years and inside apartments some newly renovated, my apartment is victorian vibe still old world structures not fully renovated. I think my place would collapse right on top of me if the quake was stronger than a 4.8 ugh it sucks! That old world look is so vintage nice but weak infrastructure.
@julief634 Just a suggestion that I do living in the PNW earthquake zone is have some slip-ons shoes on the floor next to your bed or wherever you sleep & a flashlight if needed in case of power outages. The shoes save your feet from broken glass or falling debris. Have a plan in mind & maybe share that with someone just on case you're stuck somewhere someone will know. Also, a backpack or overnight bag with basics if you have to run for the hills or high ground after the shaking stops. You have some basics like glasses or undies, socks, small blanket, water, snacks, spare cell chargers, or any medicine if you take any, Important Documents like ID or passport. Being prepared is a wise thing. Also, be mindful of possible tsunami waves if it is an intense earthquake. Seconds matter! Never panic. I don't go with the flow of others. I follow my gut intuition, which is the best decision during an emergency situation.
Good evening, David and crew, so happy to see all of you doing an excellent job bringing the news to us tonight. Can't wait to join you on Monday, as you help us navigate the totality of the solar eclipse.
🇨🇻🇬🇼🇺🇸 Dear Father God please have Mercy on you Childs, Amen,🙏✌️
Thank you ABC for replaying world news Tonight! Are yaw all ok?
“People running to safety outside a coffee shop” this is dangerous reporting language, it is NOT safe to run out of a building during an earthquake because you are much more likely to be struck by falling debris or windows outside. If you’re inside, the safest option is to get under a piece of furniture.
Yeah that really freaked me out too...they wouldn't know that...
🤣
But what if I can't fit under my table cause my booty is too big?
What the heck why taxpayers should pay for Baltimore bridge. Shipping company has insurance, how about pay for all US citizens road accidents
What should be remembered is that NO state in our country is safe from Natures actions. Therefore we must and should help others. for we never know when it will be us!
Absolutely, I am in Montana and we had an earthquake 5.0 and it was a roller. No one knew what it was! But I am from California.

something crazy because TAWAIN just got hit few days ago with 7.2 or something and now NYC never in my life time have I ever seen this in NYC and a month ago NYC had a small one I think.
yeah, that's called a coincidence.
The solar eclipse is my thought.
Never in your lifetime!? Your lifetime is meaningless!
In the 1980s I felt one in the bronx, while i slept...I thought it was a truck passing by. Another a month after 9/11, October 2001 or maybe was end of Sept, can't remember exactly, small one and my closet mirrors shook real hard, but I thought it was just my crazy neighbors having rough sex and he threw her against the wall again or something like that. Then 2010 or 2011 a small one, a little shake and now this one which was definitely much stronger than all the other ones i had experienced. All in NYC so not many and nothing like the 4.8 we just felt. Scary cause NYC is not ready for the big one.
@julief634 I observed that from the news not being from NYC that most people commented that they thought it was trucks or trains passing by & weren't really aware of how seconds count in regards to earthquakes. I would prefer a vintage prehistoric home with charm over a new one any day. Sounds like your neighbors have already stressed sex tested your building walls & whatnot pretty good already... lol 😂 so you're probably okay!
why are we paying for the rebuild ? ship did not have insurance???
HORROBLE! No help for Maui, but here is no problem
Litigation takes too long. And you know it's gonna be litigation.
Now they know what we who live on the west coast of the USA have been experiencing for decades. We suffered with quakes more power than this. Hope everyone is ok. But be aware that this is part of the sign of the last days.
We've had earth quakes for millions and millions of years ...but now they're a sign of the last days? ...lol. Tell us about your Qanon theory.
Exactly I can remember living up past Sacramento and a tornado hit we didn't have any power for 4 days but I wasn't in shock ANYTHING can happen ANYWHERE
I've heard the last days nonsense for 5 decades 🥱

@@GlennHeston can you just answer the question without insulting everyone?
@@GlennHeston Biden jumped to that conclusion when he said the federal governmentvwould pay"the entire cost".
@@keithstump1712 No, he screwed up when he didn't explain in detail for the stupid people that the government would pay to clean it up and put a new bridge in place while the courts go through all the legal stuff to find out who's insurance pays for what. The scariest part of that is some fear that a large quake could significantly impact the buildings of New York built on questionable foundations.
Thanks for sharing , sad news about earthquake
None of the quakes here in South Carolina was that bad.
I took my son to Washington DC for a week to tour the White House and Capital in 2011. We were about to go into the Washington Monument, but he was afraid of heights so we did not go inside. I was really disappointed when we left. Ten minutes later we were standing on the street and felt the ground under us move and shake. We would have been in the epicenter of the earthquake had we actually gone into the Washington Monument. When we got to the airport to return home, everything was being boarded up for Hurricane Irene! We made it out, but what a memorable trip we still talk about today! Such an amazing area even with an earthquake and a hurricane!
In Alaska, we call that Friday.
