@@whoisjovanni It doesn't for several reasons. One, he is throwing around conditions for the BMF fight to happen. Two, Volk was over the age of victory and got ko'd 3 months earlier. Finally, most important, Ilia is just not a Bad Mother Fucker. Excellent fighter but not in that category... yet?

To be honest, I think Max just gave the BMF belt a meaning. It is about the attitude 'anyone, anywhere, anytime and anyweight'. First it started as a fun contest of West coast vs East coast gangster but I never felt both Masvidal and Diaz really personified the statement above. They both had very diva like attitude in choosing their opponents and never ending excuses for losing fights. But it had a major marketing value so I get it. Then it sort of became a gimmick when they made Dustin and Justin fight for it in my opinion. Sure Dustin is a dog but he was always a competitor first. He learned to fight fire with fire but he doesn't go there himself (nothing wrong about it of course). I always felt like it was just a thing to justify it being a 5 round fight and sell PPV because their first fight was a banger.
The fight to make is Ilia v Max in Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. First show in Spain at an icon venue
The BMF should only be attainable by knockout.

Max added weight to the belt by defending it, Max took it up a notch by going up a weight class and beating a killer the way he beat that killer. The BMF belt is something I pray they keep around

The BMF lead to one of the best UFC moments I can think of. Max and Justin probably never fight without it. I think just how amazing this was has given the UFC a strong mandate to start making more fan friendly fights. If we ignore rankings, and even weight classes to a degree, what cool fights could we see? The only issue is that these fighters would need big pay increases for those fights to risk their rank and career progression for. I'm thinking rather than a spesific belt, we just get like a BMF billed fight to support weaker cards.

If the fight ended as a decision, I think not much would have changed. But Max deciding to scrap and sleep Geathje at the end is the most BMF thing, making the title more significant

@@TA-hf6si Dude, champoinship fights some times lack excitement. and theres a lot of boring title fights that have happened over the past 30 years. With Max as the BMF you know you're going to get a very high quality fight that will be exciting in the main event. It also lifts the burden of having a "title" to main event a card. 10 years ago not every PPV had a title fight and the sport was kind of better for it. Main events should be worthy of the price tag they are charging. #1 contenders often fought as the main event on PPV cards and televised events. It wouldn't hurt to have that be the case in the modern era of the sport

If anything, he’s ended that title altogether. Because the odds of that fight and that finish being equaled or surpassed are almost impossible. That belt shouldn’t be fought for again, at least not while Max is still fighting. When he retires, maybe then bring it back. But he’s earned the right to hold that title in perpetuity.

I think Holloway vs Gaethje was the first BMF title fight that truly earned the name. Dustin/Justin was a way to transition the belt from 170 to 155/145 where more super exciting fights happen to which Max delivered. BMF fights have got to be reminiscent of Don Fry vs Sexyama

I suggest that the bmf max holds converts like a semi open weight belt championship. The bmf could potentially be a more prestigous belt if done that way. The champ and challenger can move up or down up to 2 weight classes. Anyone can challwnge 2 classes up or down. Truely making it a prestigous one and really being it a BMF.

Split it down the middle for a Lightweight and a Heavyweight division, and just start shoving in killers. If I was Max I’d fight the winner of mcgregor vs chandler at lightweight. Big money fight, more big names on his resume, and he still has the featherweight option no matter if he wins or loses, and an immediate title shot at lightweight if he wins. Seems like the best way to keep all his options open

You guys are acting like the UFC decides the rankings! Max is the only true BMF out of all the other guys who have fought for that belt! He went up a weight class, outclassed the guy that everyone said was going to end his career for 24:59, and got the most bad ass knock out ever with one second on the clock! Not to mention he did all of that on the biggest card of the decade!

The BMF belt should be a belt that the champion defends in what weight class they fight in and can fight anyone in the weight below or above them but they have to make the belt holders weight class. So basically whoever has the belt defends it at that weight.

In a dream world with no consequences- would be so cool to have a BMF belt in each division but the catch is to win it, it’s a 10 round fight or one continuous round until someone finishes. Essentially setting up that you have to finish to win it. Not realistic but cool to think about a champ unifying and defending both belts and the battles that would result. Even the crazy mental strength you would need knowing you’re not leaving till you finish the job or get got, that would take a BMF for sure
UFC 300 was very good and the BMF fight was very good.
the big problem with this lightweight - featherweight shenanigans is the weight change too. remember volk had 4 fights in a row going up and down in weight. cut to lightweight in 10 days, got KO'd and moved back down to fw in 4 months, got KO'd. Max also famously got blocked from Khabib for risking his health cutting on short notice to lightweight not featherweight Max needs to be smart about where he wants his body to acclimate to. 155 where he's got more power & is faster than other fighters, or 145 where his height is a nice advantage
Just make it the no weight belt, max can fight who he wants at whatever weight he wants. As long as both make the same weight. Just throwing it out there.
Open weight. Can be defended up or down one weight class at a time. Must be defended at least once a year. Create a BMF cross weight division. Change the damn name. Make it the UFC’s hardcore title

The UFC puts too much weight imo towards recency bias. They gave Porier a shot because of a stellar performance against someone rankednin the top-15 instead of a dight against someone in the top-5. The next-in-line arguably should have been Gathje, but he chose to fight Max and toon that risk. It should be Arman, but apparently, he declined. Not sure if thats fully proven or not. So now, yeah, we are in a peculiar space for LW.
