The Godox VL300 is a VERY bright video light, and in this video I dive into everything you need to know about it. I've had this video light for over 7 months (at the making of this video) and I believe the Godox VL300 is not only a bright light but a great alternative to the Aputure 300d mkii. The Godox VL300 is a great video light that has really changed my work for the good. Let me know your thoughts on this light below in the comments!

  • The faceted reflector I thought would have been good for an umbrella. In the end the light is too concentrated in the middle and the beam spread not enough without having the umbrella shaft very far from the light. Yet bare bulb into a deep umbrella is really good ( I have the FV 200 and 150).

  • Great review 👍 I have the fv150 and i got my first dose of dashed expectations when on a shoot with late noon sun (of the tropical variety aka hellish), I wasn't able to get any hair/edge/rim action from it - in the shade, at full blast, with fresnel 2x. From the reviews, all done indoors btw, it seemed I could get at least 50% of Arri D25 HMI from this light but IRL it's more like 5% :P Now I'm tempted to get the VL300 after watching this video (bump that Arri dream upto 25% maybe) but I'll wait until next year to see if Godox comes out with a 500w options. Or maybe ima do a DIY Perks style 1000W COB build with ghetto CPU cooling parts :)

  • Greetings from Japan! Thanks for posting this video! I have a couple of 1x1 panels lights but looking into getting a light such as the Apurture 300dii or alternative. Pricepoint wise this one is a strong contender! One question, how do you change color temperature? You mentioned that it gets so hot that it melted the gels. Did you find a good way to do this? Will now check all your other videos!

    @Takeshi007Fukushima@Takeshi007Fukushima3 жыл бұрын
    • Hi there! So this is not a bi-color light, it's just daylight. So if you want to change the color you'll look to use gels. The reason I melted the gels is because I was improperly placing them over the light at 100% power, so that's why that happened. :p I think you'd be safe to use gels, properly of course, with this light if you need to. It's a great light at a great price.

  • Hi ! And thx for your good review ! :) i would like to have your opinion on the differences between the Godox UL series and the VL series … I hesitate to buy UL150 or VL150. No fan (but more expensive) for UL150 ... is that really the only big difference between the two models ? Maybe a idea for a new review video !!! (i'M french, sorry for my bad english !) :)

    @chrisptos@chrisptos3 жыл бұрын
    • Your english is fine, don't worry. And the main difference can be the UL150 has no fans, a bit more of a price (not too much), no remote (buy separate), no case. The VL150 has a case and remote it comes with, has fans, and is a tad cheaper. So ideally they are the same in output but have different benefits. Hope that helps.

    @Zero1993A@Zero1993A3 жыл бұрын
    • I think the 200ii would be fine. I personally have not used it, but with the experience of the VL300 I think it would work perfectly fine. The 300 can be a bit overkill in some situations.

    @hugozabiegala1352@hugozabiegala13523 жыл бұрын

  • Would you please make a video about some ideas to control Color Temperature using these units? I have right now two UL150 and a VL300. I'm very used to light using tungsten fresnel lights and use lots of CTB and CTO gels to mix or get certain looks. I'm very worried that you mentioned that a gel just simply melt down in the front of the dome. Could it be the same If I put those gels in a gel holder form the Godox barn doors? Thanks so much. I'm also figuring out a way to make the same using soft boxes an lanterns (modifying color temperature).

    @jazzer84@jazzer843 жыл бұрын
    • The only reason I mentioned the gel was cuz it melted for me. I wasn't truly using it the most properly. Need to leave room for air to pass through for sure. So its best to have a dedicated gel holder if you plan to use them with this light.

      @FellowFilmmaker@FellowFilmmaker3 жыл бұрын
  • Nice review! I went with the VL 150. I figured it was more power than I would need for most of my lighting situations and it only needed one V-Mount battery if I was not able to plug it in. I tried to cheat by getting an NPF to V-Mount adapter, but the two NPF batteries only lasted about 20 minutes before draining. Looks like I need to bite the bullet and get a real battery (or two). Have you used batteries to power the lights? I'm guessing I should not get a 95 watt hour battery for a 150 unless I don't want to record for long.

    @christianhotter@christianhotter3 жыл бұрын
    • Yeah, NPF don't quite have enough power to last long on the bigger lights. You certainly will need a v-mount battery that has enough for the watt size of your light, and also amps. @NewLayer has a video on v-mounts that might help in figuring out which one you need, I believe @TommyCallaway does as well.

  • I bought this VL300 light today ($359) but I am worried about all the negative reviews about this light that it breaks after sometime. In your other video you also said that the knob does not hold large light modifiers. Also how is that plastic hanging rope performing? I don't understand why this rope cant be a metallic one. How did they decide to keep a plastic rope into a electric unit that is heat prone? Does this rope break? Can you super glue that Vmount and remove the strap? Is your light alive or dead? Also can you review the new UL150 Mark 2?

You might consider getting at least one VL light, maybe the 150 or 200 and then as many UL150's as you like. Because the UL150 doesnt come with a case or remote, while the VL series does. :D
