Full Acoustic Guitar Build - Workshop ASMR - JKM Guitars
This build covers the complete build of guitar #31, which was completed earlier in 2023. It was a fantastic instrument with lots of unique features.
Hopefully this video give a clearer insight into all the work and processes that go into the internal components of a guitar. The standard build time for an acoustic is anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks, if only I could build them as fast as this video!
This video only covers the construction of the instrument, for demos on guitar #31, you can find them on my channel, but the links are here:

Just amazing. The birth of an acoustic guitar. What craftsmanship. Beautiful sound. A work of art.
Thank you kindly!
@@JKM_Guitars👍👍👍🌹🌹🌹👍
Wow! I feel like you explained pretty much everything about lutherie without saying one single word. You also demonstrated the true meaning of "handmade". Well done!
Thanks very much, hopefully people can pick up a tip or two from seeing how its made. A lot more works goes into the details, especially inside, than most people would expect!
Wow, excellent!
Great sound
Beautifull work ❤❤❤
Nice instrument! Kudos
Love your workshop, looks like everything is close by. I wish you continued success.
Man what a great job beautiful guitar great work ..
Stunning work. Thanks for sharing!
Many thanks!
Absolutely fascinating, great watching a true craftsman at work and I picked up a few tips for my amateur builds. Thanks
Glad you found it useful, half of the tips I've learnt are from other makers build videos!
That resonation is so clean, your spine works is great!
Although i own 2 guitars I dont know anything about guitars let alone to play one but that sound when you tested it sounded so crisp👌🏼 i love the end result and you have all my respect for the love and effort you've put into making that art piece
Gorgeous! And so relaxing to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was relaxing to watch, I learned some stuff and that guitar is gorgeous with mad sustain.
Beautiful job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful work. Love the bridge. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautifully made instrument with a beautifully shot video of the master builder making it. Then, last but far from least, the sound of the guitar at the end was stunning.
Thanks very much for the kind words! There are a few demo videos of this guitar if you wanted to hear it in more detail, the links are in the description 😀
Well edited build video. I like the subtle nod to D&D! Excellent work in that as well.
Thanks a lot, and the d&d reference was purely by mistake, but I'm glad you noticed it!
Amazing. Nice work.
Thank you very much!
I'm a guitarist from Myanmar. Love u very much bro. This video gave me alot of good vibes ... ❤
Excellent ! Congratulations ! Thanks for this sharing.
Not a problem, hopefully I'll be making more like this in future when I have something interesting on the bench!
Beautiful video of a beautiful process.
Thank you very much!
Super Super Cool Video ! TY so much !
Glad you liked it!
Work of art there brother, thanks for the video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad you liked it!
Beautiful work I love your approach in building!! You did a great job on this video! Your work is amazing. I really love your top bracing pattern.!!
Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I have another video called "inside the guitar" which goes over the bracing in a little more detail if you were interested
Very nice sound. Congratulations!
Thanks a lot!
Amazing skill
Thanks a lot!
Very bright sound....
Awesome. This was my first view of your work. Beautiful instrument inside and out. It was interesting seeing some of your approach to getting the tone as you are thickening and bracing too, back and sides. Even the sides and neck blank ring. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! Picking good materials makes the rest of the job much easier, the tonewoods of this guitar were each fantastic 👌
What a beautiful guitar bro, more videos like this please, a hug
Thanks man, I might make another if an interesting build is on the bench!
Hello, I always watch your videos and it is an excellent job, I have always wanted to have a guitar like that, but my economic possibilities prevent me from doing so since in Venezuela all instruments are very expensive.
A truly amazing masterpiece. Which means your work is extraordinary. I don't know what else I can say to be able to own one of your works. Peaceful greetings from Indonesia
Pingin banget cobain gitarnya
I wasn't expecting the rosewood tail lock, and then.... rosewood neck! Fantastic to watch, beautifully shot video!
Thank you! The rosewood tail block was to add a little more weight to help balance against the rosewood neck. Swapping the tuner buttons to ebony helped a lot with this too
Your guitar making video so nice ❤We want to see more videos like this .
I'll try and make another in the new year 👍
Truly a thing of beauty ......
You're too kind!
Kerja yang sangat baik dan rapi...... terima kasih
Preciosa bravo👏👏👏👏👏
Great
I’m like the best way make everything you do look better work and quality job
Thanks very much!
Very niiice... ✌️❤️😊
verry good video mate lovely
Many thanks!
Tremendous
It rings!
What a beautiful job filming and your work is excellent. I have built only one acoustic guitar but have started a second. Your work has helped me to change somethings I was doing. I thank you for that. I do have a question about what the finish was that you were rubbing on. I don’t have spray equipment so I did a French Polish which I learned to do many years ago. If you don’t mind what was the finish , or type of finish, you were rubbing on? Again outstanding work. It gives me hope and something to shoot toward.
Thank you for the video. Very interesting in that I see of what I do in your working...good to know I may be doing something right ! One quick question if you would be so kind ... I see you have sanding drum machine ? is this an Axminster model and if so what are thoughts on it ? Currently looking for one myself and would welcome the information. Thank you. Love your circular carving platform !
Nice job. What do you seal the wood with on the inside? Shellac?
Spettacolare, ti invidio.😊
This is awesome. I'm a carpenter and was thinking about giving it a try but being a carpenter has nothing to do with something handcrafted like this i know. A ton of work goes into this build I can tell. Subscribed.
beautiful guitar and beautiful video... question: whats that machine you have at 30:30?
браво мастер !
Thank you very much!
salute
Thanks!
That was a great watch! Thank you so much for this greate peace of content. Could you please explain what you brush on at about 19:30 and what is the step with the airbrushing between gluing on the front and back? Working on my first electric guitar right now and would love to be able to build an acoustic one day.
Im applying a layer of shellac finish to the inside of the guitar, this does two things, firstly it helps add a moisture barrier to the raw wood inside which should help prevent any humidity changes from affecting the guitar, and secondly it makes it look nice 😉
Beautiful work, sir! Wow. Forgive me if I missed it but are there any details of this guitar online or in a video? Woods, Hardware, etc.?
There are some details listed in a demo video performed by Gary Lutton, the link should be in the description. But you have reminded me I need to add this guitar to the website, so ill get to that in the next few weeks, thanks!
Awesome build. Did you use the Shaper Origin for the fret slots ?
Yes I did, I also use it for making the logos for the head veneers
มันเป็นงานที่ยอดเยี่ยมมาก ฝีมือตัวเอง ยังไงก็ดีกว่า😮😮
What’s the difference between the back and top sanding board?
Nice work ❤ what kind of wood is the neck made of??
Thank you, the neck is made of Indian rosewood 👌
When chiseling the wood bracing that goes on the interior, is the shape you are making them what determines how it sounds?
There's a few details to take into consideration, the shape has a role, as you can control what portions of the strut are stiffer or more flexible. The weight is another key characteristic, which is why the braces are carved with a thin spine and flat edges, to remove as much weight as possible while maintaining the strength of the strut. If you can get everything light and stiff, then you're on your way to a winner!
What was the coating you applied to the inside perimeter of the guitar front and back prior to glue up on the sides? Lacquer sealer?
It was shellac, just to add an extra layer of moisture proofing on the inside, as well as making the interior look nice 👌
What kind of wood that you were using for the bottom side inside? is it Ebony?
The inside tailblock was made of Indian rosewood, the idea was to help add a little more weight to the end of the instrument to balance the Indian rosewood neck. I've also added brass rods to the tailblock in other builds to further do this
Simple yet elegant. Well crafted compared to mass produced Yamahas and Takamine. Sounds great too. :)
Thank you very much!
How come you put the neck on before the frets? Otherwise perfect! Subbed!
Once the neck is glued on, its easier to tell what all the angles and measurements are for the bridge height etc. And then with the guitar mounted in the neck support jig, I can keep everything stable while doing the fingerboard rsdiusing and fret work. Fretting the neck before attaching may be easier, but you'd need to be more careful with how the fingerboard fits over the soundboard (will it dip or raise) depending on the profile of the top and the neck angle.
@@JKM_Guitars Thats what I expected you to say! I am a proud owner of a custom 12 string jumbo cutaway from UK. I watched the luthier make it way back in 1984. Still sounds absolutely gorgeous. Do you have a 12 string model?
High craftsmanship resulted in a beautiful guitar. Unfortunately didn't hear it's full sound in the video. But why did you choose for a bridge like this? It's quite 'bulky' (might be necessary for it's strength), but a 'normal' bridge and the strings running through the top, is 'slimmer' which would suite the overall looks to my opinion better... On the other hand, the bridge is made with great craftsmanship, so you earn credits for that!
I kept this video to just be the construction, I've links in the description to some demos of it. As for the bridge, I prefer the string through design over the pinned bridges, so it does need to be a little larger to proved enough supports to the ball ends, but its much easier to change strings than a pinned bridge (I also like seeing the coloured ball ends as well!)
@@JKM_Guitars: Well, thank you for your answers. I don't change the strings on my guitar to often, nor do I look at the back side of the bridge so much 😉. Maybe that's the reason I reacted in the first place. Furthermore I don't know how it effects the tone of the guitar, but I assumed you do. Anyway, it is a matter of taste and you made a beautiful guitar (and a nice video too!).
