PC Mode 4:4:4 LG CX for PS5 / Xbox Series X and why you do not need it.

2020 ж. 21 Қар.

You don't need to use the PC mode on your TV to get a good picture quality. The PS5 is not even capable of doing 4:4:4 in HDR and 120hz. But to make this clear: 4:4:4 is the best signal what you can choose! BUT the difference between 4:4:4 and 4:2:2 in games is not worth mentioning!

  • What I forgot to mention in my video (shame on me) . The TV will always use 4:2:2 regardless what setting you are using on the Xbox/PS5. That is why you have to set you TV to PC Mode if you want to use 4:4:4 .

    • i thought the only benefit of hdmi 2.1 (if i do not care about performance mode in games and only play at 4k/60) is that the game will run in 4k/60 RGB 10bit HDR. So even if the console renders the game at rgb, the tv will compress the data to 4.2.2 anyway on 60hz mode? Does this apply to every tv or only the CX? I am about to purchase a new tv and the hdmi 2.1 stuff just makes it harder...should i go for something with hdmi 2.1 or get a decent tv like the Sony x950h but without 2.1 features...

  • This reminds me of picking between full and limited color space. One isn’t better than the other like the naming suggests, it’s just what matches your setup. Thanks for the clear info, this topic has been confusing to me. I’m going to leave my XSX at 60HZ, unless I’m specifically playing a game that supports 120HZ. It appears to me that leaving it in 120HZ affects the picture negatively. For one, I see a pink highlight on text when enabled. New subscriber!

LG

However, are there any disadvantages to activating PC mode compared to console mode? If there is no inconvenience and it brings a "plus" (enable 4: 4: 4) why not do it? Thank you for your attention.

    @rudydettwiller@rudydettwiller2 жыл бұрын
    • The "negative" of using it is that your TV disables almost all processing of the image and while this may seem like a good thing you lose access to things like color correction motion smoothing and a number of other picture "enhancements" provided by your TV's processing. Effectively there is no benefit whatsoever to using it that's discernable and there are ACTUAL very discernable negatives depending on how your TV settings are configured. Basically you'll get the same or better image quality by just sticking to non pc mode options and using your displays built in image processing.

I got some console settings yesterday by watching Vincent on hdtvtest KZhead channel where he recommended change input to pc and on the xbox untick the allow ycc 422 and then I'll get 444 chroma, I'm also gaming in dolby vision game mode instead of HDR as it's a new feature and some say is better. The weird thing is when I'm playing a game in dolby vision and repeatedly click the green button on lg remote it tells me it's playing in 422 (which I unticked) and 8 bit. I'm very confused by all of this and I'm not a tech head,seeming as you have exactly the same setup as me could you please help me with both my tv settings and xbox settings, should I be in game mode instead of pc and should I use hdr or dolby vision, should allow 422 be ticked? • Interesting stuff. Another factor to consider (at least as pertains to the C9) is 4:4:4 in combination with 4K120hz VRR etc introduces visual artifacts on the screen. They manifest as red and blue glitching. This can be mitigated somewhat by turning off features in general settings (Live Plus for example), but it doesn’t totally eliminate them. The aberrations seemingly appear randomly.

I will look more into this because when I did this video I was not able to see ANY difference in terms of banding between PC and game mode. You lose more detail in PC mode, and you get black crush, I noticed it when playing Last of Us 2, dark areas get way more darker than the game console mode so I think that game console mode is the way to go because that is probably what the game developers had in mind and you can also see more details when you engage in game console mode for the LG CX + PS5 (with HGIG enabled. If 4K 60 4:4:4 10b-HDR is 22.28Gbps then we should be able to get a bit higher than 60 to reach the 32 gbps. For me 90 fps is the sweet spot for framerate.

  • Finally. Took a German guy to address the misconceptions. Another drawback for setting ps5 in pc mode is that you have to connect your ps5 directly to TV and then sur an earc port to output audio to receiver. That way you get a lossy signal from the TV and you are better off using a hdmi 2.1 receiver directly connected to ps5

    @syedzgaming@syedzgaming7 ай бұрын
    • If you have an HDMI 2.1 receiver, you should definitely be connecting your XBOX Series X and/or PS5 to that receiver. Now, if you own a receiver that is not HDMI 2.1 capable, and does not have that bandwidth, then for sure, you connect your console to the TV, and let the TV passthrough the audio to the receiver via its ARC connection. Now in the case of the latter, yes, you are going to experience "lossy" audio. You'll be able to use Dolby Digital 7.1 or DTS with an older receiver. You won't have the ability to utilize the Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio features available for use on the latest gaming consoles, which does kind of suck. However, I've got my XBOX Series X and PS5 consoles both connected to HDMI 2.1 switches, which enables me to switch either of their signals from being sent to either my home theater system - which consists of my 65" LG C2 OLED display, connected to my Pioneer Elite VSX LX505 receiver, which is setup in a 5.1.4 Atmos configuration - or to my desktop system - which consists of my HP PC, and my 42" LG C3 OLED display, (which is used as a PC monitor most of the time) connected to my much more dated Onkyo TX NR929 receiver, which I use to power what is the most killer desktop audio system I've ever had, which is in it's entirety, that receiver and a 3.1 speaker setup. I just recently connected everything to my desktop up this way, just because I had upgraded our home theater, and I'm always looking for an excuse to mess around with some speakers, and I had the older receiver sitting around doing nothing, as well as our old 10" powered subwoofer sitting and collecting dust as well. So I just decided to hook it all up, so that whenever I do end up playing on the 42" C3, I could still have some killer sound. All that aside, I'm not going to sit here and say that there is no big difference between the two, because not having audio which would otherwise be coming at you from 6 whole other channels, well, that's a significant enough difference I believe, to call a "big" one. However, the quality of the audio coming from my smaller desktop system is still amazing, high quality audio. I can crank it WAY up, and hear things crisp and clear, and detailed, so much more than I could ever hear if I were using just the speakers on my television. And my televisions both, are LG OLEDs, one, barely a year old, and the other, is only about a month old, so both of them are Dolby Atmos capable HDMI 2.1 televisions. Even so, the audio from my older Onkyo TX NR929 receiver is still worlds better, and far more detailed than anything that either of the TVs could ever produce. So if any of you out there are worried about the quality of your audio, because you are using a more dated ARC receiver, as opposed to an eARC capable receiver, to the point that you are considering upgrading to a newer eARC capable HDMI 2.1 receiver, I would encourage you not to worry about it too too much. Unless your receiver is considerably old, it should have the ability to match the audio to the screen in terms of allowing you to experience your audio without the first bit of noticeable delay. Most will even do this automatically, but even the few that don't, still provide the ability for you to go in their settings and adjust the delay for yourselves, and you can get it pretty exact when you are using by the millisecond adjustments. Put it this way, if your receiver is ARC capable, and actually shakes hands with your tv ok, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about at all. Now, if you are interested in Dolby Atmos and DTS:X specifically, because you are actually a "home theater enthusiast", and you would like to experience object based audio/surround sound, then by all means, upgrade. It absolutely IS awesome, and one hell of an experience to be able to have in your own home when streaming content, or watching movies, tv, and playing games. But you don't NEED an Atmos/DTS:X capable receiver in order to enjoy your audio. It IS an improvement in terms of the additional channels, but the QUALITY of my audio, in regard to my desktop setup, is just as detailed and clear as the audio from my home theater system. Just figured I'd mention my experience here, on the off chance it might help someone.

  • Yea I don't understand why people was going crazy over this. Unless you're in the pc space, console gaming and movies it won't make a difference. Before I got my nanocell 99 people were complaining that it didn't have 4:4:4 8k 60hz. I would always explain its not going to be necessary for 8k console content or movies. Sometimes most of these KZheadrs send misinformation and people go with it. You actually know what you're talking about. I believe Playstation will update the firmware, so the system can output the full bandwidth. I think they're waiting for VRR stability across all TVs and 8k textures/content in future games. I believe once UE5 is officially released and devs start using the tools. PS5 will be able to take advantage of those high res textures due to its ssd.

    • When you buy something you want the best for your money. No one who’s trying to get the best cares if you say “but you can’t use it with what is available.” It’s not to say that you can’t make use of it later or just simply want to know that your money is buying the best

    • @@Millicente Nothing wrong with that, but we're talking about a product that is only limited by the firmware and not the hardware. As for my example the current supported bandwidth is simply not enough and won't be until the next spec revision comes around.

    • @@Millicente HDMI 2.1 bandwidth (48 Gbps) isn't enough for 4K120, 12bit (DV), 4-4-4. That's before even mentioning limits of consoles: PS5 is limited to 32 Gbps. Series X is limited to 18 Gbps (HDMI 2.0) in 60hz mode and 40 Gbps in 120hz mode.
