  • Drywall mud is much easier to work if you "blend" it first. To do: Dump the whole bucket of mud into a larger bucket, add some water, blend with a drill & paint mixer. Add water to desired thickness. Mud will be nice & creamy, like frosting, and flow from the grout bag. Then you can tool it however you wish. Always wet inside of bag before mud goes in too.

The Sawyers are true friends and blessings to have. The ceilings and walls is making the tiny house feel like a cabin retreat. With insulation and a little wood stove will keep you warm this winter. I know your sealing up every crack because snakes and mice can do wonders. One year ago you two were completing the Ranch project. Blessings Crockers

  • Jason, I can "see" what you are trying to do. I think I would try it with more of the bigger pieces of "cord" wood and less on the small pieces. As far as the mortar goes, I'd try a wet brush when you try to smooth it out. I think if you went with more of the larger pieces of wood and less of the little ones, you could still use less of the mortar?? I did see where someone else had said to only do the one wall as a feature wall of cord wood. Then do the corrugated metal on the other three walls. Either way, it's looking good!!! Cannot wait to see it all finished out!!! Thank you for sharing your lives Jason and Jaylena. It is much appreciated even if we don't say it often. Thank you.

  • One secret to great drywall is to add water to your mud. I'm thinking it would work here too. It will make your mud go farther, it will go through those icing bags easier and it's much easier to spread and finish. Maybe you are done already, then forget this, if not, maybe give it a try.

  • There are some great ideas on here today. Jason, you will really learn a lot reading these comments. I especially liked the idea of a rope between trees to help get up the hill. Also, the idea of putting the spackle on and pressing the wood into it could save some time and have a neat look. The walls look awesome.

    @southernbelle3995@southernbelle39953 жыл бұрын
  • Where you did the rounds, if you had painted the background white you could’ve saved yourself a ton of time on the spackling because you wanted it had to cover all of the plywood you could’ve just smeared some in and if you missed a little spot it would’ve been white anyway. You could even spread the spackle on before you put the rounds on and just usedA trowel to get a rough flare on there to cover the wood and then just push the rounds into it with a couple of nails. It would’ve just saved you a ton of time and then you could’ve just added more spackle at the very end just to get the smooth look you wanted. When I prepared rock walls that were similar to this and it had mortar in between the rocks, it was an exterior and the mortar was darker and dirty, I found if I mixed a little bit of dirt in with the mortar give it a really age to look and it looks more natural because it was dirty and the mortar wasn’t all one color because it had dirt in it it just looked more natural. On some areas I just put new mortar in and took a handful of dirt and pressed it in and then use the paint brush to clean it off after it dried and some of it just stuck in there but it give it a really natural texture. Another suggestion, cut your plywood and fit it first and then do this flat and then put your plywood in place after it’s complete. Just mark a couple areas or put the screw halfway in so you know where your studs are, but that might be a lot easier

    @ShaneZettelmier@ShaneZettelmier3 жыл бұрын
  • Also, to color drywall mud use paint first instead of water when blending. Added bonus if u add too much or not enuf paint in different batches it will add to the aged look.

  • I think after last winter and slogging down the hill to get to the creek, it would be a good idea to make a rustic stairway down the hill. Peg a log about 5' long to keep it from rolling, then backfill it with rocks and dirt, board or flat rounds for the treads. Lather, rinse, repeat. You've got all the tools there to do it too. It could be a great way to make that hillside more useful too... terraces and build some garden beds, grow your own food. Lots of cool projects.

  • Whenever we used a bucket either size of premixed plaster / sheetrock mud we used a paddle mixer tool that we connected to a drill to mix it first. For a smoother easier to use product you can adjust the thickness by adding water until you get the consistency that is easiest for you to work with. This would make it easier to use the bags you purchased. I just thought I'd mention this in case you hadn't thought about it before. Stay happy, healthy, hydrated and safe. God bless.

Just a thought so you don't slip so easily. ( a swinging bridge from the top to a small elevated deck built on the side of the hill... Aaaaa~mazing) Great video! Be Blessed,

  • For the future perhaps consider using the compound troweled on the wall first and then push the wood pieces into it like tile. The larger pieces could also be back buttered like tile. The pieces then could actually touch each other and probably no nails would be required either. The compound would just fill in the gaps between the wooden pieces. Also use larger wood pieces more abundantly to get more coverage.
