It has always been my sport to accidentally have my pass not visible and try to walk in without it. I can tell you it only needs a confident look and walk like you belong and are at a 'rank' that you expect security does not dare to ask you. I have only actually been stopped once in al these years. I told the security guy this same story and thanked and respected him for being very good at his job because he did not give a s""T how I walked or looked :) I LOVED the granddad. As we discussed what to do (simply going home), four guys (all 6+ feet and blond) walked past us heading straight for the entrance and I told her to follow along and be cool. Security saw them coming, lifted the rope and we waltzed right on through. Turned to laugh with my friend and saw her behind the rope looking mad nervous. For whatever reason they had stopped her. Emboldened by having gotten in, I told security that she was with me and they let her in. To this day I cannot for the life of me believed that actually worked. Things that are bold, things that are unique: that's what these fashion events are for, to find what is considered eye-catching or unique presentations/patterns so that fashion businesses can begin tinkering with the next seasons limited designs! The point isn't to actually wear those crazy outfits, but rather to find what the viewers find as "artful" this season. Regardless, it's still hilarious to see a good-spirited old chap bust into a fashion show and own the stage! XD

  • This isn't just "the fashion world is crazy lol", it's also quite a nice study on charisma, deception, and art through fashion. The combo of Ray being a stellar actor, bodyguard, and camera crew? Anyone would have been bamboozled. Zac undersells the whole look of Ray. The model and the outfit told a story that would be catnip to designers. The model himself came off as knowledgeable, witty, and approachable. Of course he should be there! He's probably a veteran in the industry. And his clothes! It starts playful and self-aware with the colors, the tamagotchi, the duct tape on the back. But by the time you get to the feet, and it ends with a statue of Putin with eyes everywhere? It's honestly great. It's ridiculous on the street, but that's just perfect for the runway. I legit think that was probably getting talked about by wealthy designer folks for days.

  • From personal experience, I can tell you one thing: the weirder your excuse is, the higher your chances are to get into Fashion Week parties. Some years ago my buddies and me were on a short vaccation in Berlin until we realised it was fashion week. We were (are) just a bunch of metal heads with nothing but bullshit in our minds, so we tried to get in. While we were thinking of a story to tell the bouncers, I remembered a business card I kept in my purse. It was from a small two-men joinery called (translated) "The Magic Blacksmith" quiet near my hometown. They made all kinds of fantasy decorations for their customer's livingrooms and the guys running the company were hella funny, so I kept their card just in case I would've too much money on my bank account one day and decided to order some custom-made furniture from them. We skipped everybody at the line and when I approached the bouncers, I pulled out the business card and told them, "Hi, we're here to fix the unicorn downstairs." The chief bouncer just nodded at the others and they immediately let us in without asking any questions at all. Like it was absolutely normal that the unicorn was broken and needed a fix. Fucking hell. The party itself was lame, but to this day everyone cracks up when we tell the story of how we got to join it. :D

    • I just laugh at how people think that it’s actual work. It’s more of an art form I guess. But art that takes little to no effort isn’t art it’s just tomfoolery.

    • Yeah, but I think the idea of using an old guy is key here. For sure, max fosh got into fashion week too but ray got into everything. That’s because an old dude dressed like that is so ridiculous that they don’t even think about it being fake, he has to be VIP. Actually genius.

If ya wanna meet and even collaborate with anyone who's ever given a TED Talk cuz you know exactly what they're all about and why you're excited to be a part of it -- just shoot them an email amd a follow-up call if that's appropriate. Been in-touch with Mr. DIY Spacesuit recently and that was Super Cool! 😎

  • This is the epitome of how life imitates art. Confidence is key and can crush the walls of fakery to rubble. Everything is an illusion, and is only as real, or as valuable as people believe or make it. Good ole grandpa..... A real slap in the face of fake fashion!!!

    • I love dancing, and I have never had any official training. Yet get on me a dance floor (where I am the most confident version of myself) and I have people asking "Are you pro?". I know I am definitely not THAT good....but it's the confidence....it hides a lot of technical imperfections!
