#74 A Look into the Future
Lot's of things going on at the moment. I'm having some help levelling the soil around the cabins and taking the middle roof off. I received some renderings from an architect to show the plans for the cabin. In the meantime I'm making progress raising the walls on the inside of the cabin and a start is being made with the windows.

Yes, love it 💘 🙌❤♥
Everbody inhale!😂
Exactly
Yes!
The cabins are looking beautiful in the sunlight. The contrast on the stone walls is striking. I hope you get the time to marvel at all of this beauty. You are making a very special place to live where you can lose yourself in the beauty of it all. Thank you for letting us share with you what you are creating as it becomes what you want it to be.
It is much wiser to talk to chickens than to talk on social media. Martin, hats off to you for you Dutch are masters of light!
Warmed my kold heart he did 😂❤
Right!
so true!
I am banned by saying what I feel. I completely appreciate what he has done but there is something on the internet that will not go through.
As a dutchie this made me smile!
I love seeing how the chickens have become so calm. The cows are always a fun sight to see. You have come so far with all your work. Thank you for always sharing.
Yet again, here I am with my Sunday morning coffee with Martijn. Never miss!
The pictures were so beautiful. You have come so far in a year. The things you found in the walls were so interesting. The views as always are so spectacular. Your friends are so awesome to come and help you. They always seem to be a great help to you and get so much done. You are truly blessed. ❤❤❤
Men making bread and pasta...sharing it in pristine nature....collaborating by volunteering back breaking labor. I'm in heaven. Can't we all just live this way? The renderings are inspiring, the beauty stunning and I didn't see a mess anywhere. Ciao Martijn, I sense your life is filled with love and the unfolding journey is a heartwarming pleasure to watch.
Here here, agree.
My dream man. If I were younger. So much talent and knowledge. Love everything about these videos.
Yes, we can all live this way. Most of our ancestors did, and likely not more than s few generations ago. It ain't to late to tell the 15 minute, high tech 'smart' (etymologically means 'painful'- think about that one...) Cities to get lost. We can still reclaim the commons given to us by YAH Most High.
There are moments where the beauty of the vistas are almost overwhelming! The valley filled with mists and the way the sunlight plays on it all. Staggering beauty! The doghouse! I've been wondering what was the plan for that crucial bit of infrastructure! Now we can see! The renderings of what the homestead might look like are fantastic! This is the best KZhead channel! Every episode is a cherished gift. Thanks Martijn!
I so look forward to spending an hour in the Italian alps with Martjin, his friends and chickens. The work is hard, the views spectacular. Thank you for bringing us along with you.
That make two of us
woot! 😊
So true thankyou for these videos I feel like I travel to see a friend each week ❤
It's not a mess. It's just under construction. It's great that you have friends that come and help. The homemade pasta looked delicious. Your place is beautiful. When you are done it will be incredibly beautiful. Best to all!
Como é bom assistir os teus vídeos e muito gratificante . Um grande abraço
Der Weg ist das Ziel...
What a lovely view into the future. The only thing I’d change is in the small cottage bedroom. When you place the toilet back on the same wall as the headboard, you could create a narrow wall to make sure the toilet is not visible from the bed, it just feels a tad weird to see the toilet so open in the room. That way you still have the open plan, but with a wee bit privacy when sitting on the toilet (even with everything in front of you is wide open when sitting on the toilet). Maybe it’s a girl’s thing… Love the progress and your ideas 💡 It makes me want to make ve to Italy 😅
Sorry for the english speaking folks but i do this in dutch. Rustig doorgaan. Alles lukt, uiteindelijk!
Das war sicher sehr viel Arbeit
Your encouragement is so great. Thanks
Such hard labor with great reward. Love the cowbells and so good to see Brown all healed up. The renderings were absolutely wonderful and appeared to really raise your spirits. So necessary to live in the moment as well as see the possibilities in a life project like this. Thanks for always making my Sunday.
and he has eggs! hopefully from his chickens :)
@@battles146 I think he will announce when his hens start producing.
Sorry, I feel the cows are intruding and the bells, so many and loud hinder the serenity. Privacy is important. Not like your own one or two cows or goats,
Martijn I thank you for every moment that you share with all of us.

The hint of a smile on your face tells us how pleased this week has made you! Enjoy your visitors
He is the personification of coolness, but he expresses warmth, nevertheless.
I applaud all the hard work in this week's video, from the artists that created the future cabin pictures and the amazing Italian young men who seem so eager to help to the knowledgeable window maker. Thank you for a beautiful video ❤
Martijn even makes coffee and fruit in the morning look artistic.
Don’t forget granola!
soooo right
the coffee has no impact on him, he’s always so damn chill
Coffee and fruit ARE amazing in the morning
Thank you for allowing us to look into your window of the future. Beautiful images. Bless bless Martjin.
This is the last of your videos that my husband and I watched together before he joined our creator on July 17 this year... We're both following your channel and love watching your videos...We've always anticipated your upcoming video every week and we'd sit and relax together watching it...We're so inspired of your accomplishments, not just the development of your place but the adventures that you had like exploring places with your bike not to mention your published books of arts and photography...Now I still watch your releases but I feel so nostalgic that I have to watch alone 🥲🥲🥲
I'm so sorry for your loss 😢
My condolences for your loss. May YAH Most High grant you solace and peace.
Sending you my love.
The sound of the bells... It calmed me down during our vacation to the Dolomites. All those sweet faces surrounding the areas there!
I like the details in the future photo's. They put you're book "Two years on a bike" on the small table!😀👍
Love seeing the visualizations of the future!
The worse thing about these videos is that they come to an end. 😢 So enjoyable to watch! 😊
This was a brilliant week Martijn. I absolutely love the chickens they crack me up with their funny personalities. The people who came to help you this week worked hard, but the moments of relaxation and celebration with a cold brew and fabulous food and that view takes your breath away just watching it. Martijn's mountain lifestyle that we all love to watch. The highlight was the visualization models created by the Architects from Barcelona - they were BRILLIANT! It's all coming together and is so exciting...Thank you for another great week and for sharing your life with the world.
The cow bells are such a delightful sound. I love that the cows graze on your land. The cabin is coming along and the door looks perfect - solid and strong and will keep whistling wind out.
Really? There is evidence to suggest that cow bells can be cruel to cows. Cow bells can be quite loud, up to 113 decibels, which is about as loud as a lawnmower. This noise can be stressful and even painful for cows, who have much more sensitive hearing than humans. Additionally, the weight of the bell can put strain on the cow's neck and shoulders. A study published in 2015 found that cows wearing bells for three days spent less time feeding, ruminating, and lying down. These are all important behaviors for cow health and well-being. The study also found that cows wearing bells had higher heart rates and blood pressure, which are signs of stress. Animal rights groups have called for a ban on cow bells.
While I like the cowbells, I'm not forced to listen to them 24/7. I've wondered if the bell noise is annoying to the cows. Imagine never being able to enjoy the quiet of nature because every move you & your herd make shatters that quiet.
Does anybody know why the cows have to wear the bells, I notice not all were wearing them. And yes I would think it is annoying for them to hear the sound always.
@@priscilla2152 they wear bells so that the owner can find them if they get lost or move too far away from the others. Which is why I find it quite disturbing if they bells when they are kept between gates where they can't run away. I had quite a few times cows in front of my house and at night there was no way to sleep as they were gathering just under my window and they constantly move so there is no minute of silence. I already thought of spraying some construction foam in their bells. I only can imagine how stressful it must be for them. 😞
... More cowbell! 😂 sry, I couldn't resist. 🐄🔕 really.
As hard as you have worked, I hope these beautiful drawings become a reality.
From another architect/human…it’s a hard “no” to the toilet in the bedroom. Love you 🤗
Martijn, it is calming to watch you preparing a meal as you go about your day. Thank you for the little details. Regards 🤗
I never thought I could enjoy another person's life as I do watching yours
I’m always sad when the video is over. You bring so much peacefulness to a troubled world.
No truer words written. Couldn't agree more.
me too. I hate when see you next week pops up - I could watch for hours
@@Official.MartijnDoolaard- I’m not very tech savvy. I absolutely look forward every Sunday to your video. I live outside Nürnberg and you remind me of my husband when he was young and creative. Thanks for acknowledging my text. That was very nice. Have a great week until next Sunday.
Probably time to change your life buddy.
I love the futuristic renderings. They are beautiful. I really like the railing by the stairs, the low wall to sit on on the patio, and what you envisioned. I think you should keep the outdoors kitchen as a summer kitchen for sure. So cool.
The drawings were awesome looking forward to easier times. Love it when the hens talk to you. Something peaceful when the hens talk. Thanks for another great video. Blessings from 🇺🇸.
So much movement! Loved this weeks video! So nice to see you all work, cook and enjoy together... and those summer storms, what a delight
Something lovely about the cows with their bells in the mountain pastures.
Love how Martijn harvests/picks stones like other people harvest/pick lettuce from their garden! ❤
I had to comment on this, too. It was so natural.
Martjin thank you. I love watching your creation unfold. I feel that your lifestyle is how we all should live.
Oh, how delightful im still awake here in Ipswich Queensland Australia. Greetings Martijn. 🇳🇿🤗🙏💞✌️👍👏
Those concept pictures are absolutely stunning! I can not imagine doing all that by yourself without a LOT of help, professional and amateur. What a fantastic place you will have!
Fortunately, Martijn is a professional (refer to earlier videos) and is doing this as a labor of love. Wishing you much inspiration!🤗
I have been watching from Brisbane, Australia. 🇦🇺🇦🇺 Love, love the progress you’ve made so far, and the ‘future’ pictures look amazing. But I think my most favourite part of your videos are the chickens! As an animal lover, I really love the way you treat the feathery little critters and care for their well-being. Thank you, I am always a bit more at peace after each video as they have a calmness about them.
Consider placing the bed in the middle of the room with its backpanel facing the toilet, so the back panl of the bed would close/separate the tiolet from the slipping area
And, it will face the fireplace which could also have a flatscreen tv over it for watching a movie in bed.
That's such a great idea!
I would Never sleep in a bed without a separation from the WC (it could only be a paperwall)
I just cannot emphasise enough how much toilets need to be separated! Even if just a frosted glass wall. You can definitely be creative in making the right partition so the room does not feel diminished. But you cannot have your toilet continuous with the bedroom which leads to the staircase to the upstairs all open! It is not conducive to ever receiving guests if they have to go to the other house every time they need the loo. Imagine at some point in time you have someone to share your bed. No one ever imagines romantic bed and fireside poops with a lover….!
That's an idea - or just a moveable screen in front of the toilet. You know, a lightweight foldable screen made out of a wood frame with fabric stretched within the frame.( Kinda like how women would dress behind one in the western movies.) At times you could easily move that 'screen' near the big window while showering, etc. Multiple uses.
Awesome to see the visualizations of where things will wind up!
Our favourite Sunday night viewing before bed ❤
I discovered that art goes through an ugly stage. If you can hang in there and go past that stage, you can make something beautiful. And if you are willing to go where the art takes you, the end result may not look like what you had in your mind. The outcome, the majority of the time, can be even more beautiful. That is what I see with your home. Your home is a piece of art. We are all pieces of art in becoming. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Sending loving and peace-filled thoughts to everyone.
You are creating a little paradise up there! So muchto do to make thebuildings livable but also envision the potential for the landscaping, the addition of more animals, growing food and having the space for creative projects or gatherings with friends. Your attention to detail is wonderful to see. The skylight in the cottage was a genius decision. I like that through this project you connect with so many other artisans, builders, and crafts people, learning and benefitting from their expertise, but also giving them a space to showcase their skills. Like the guy making pasta, the architect from Barcelona who did the renderings and your neighbor who will make the windows. Love it!
I look forward to your show every Sunday. Thank you so much for sharing with us
What a way to start the day……eating breakfast outside with nature and that view! Wow!
The buildings have told you what they need so far. Therefore I believe they will continue to do so and the layout will come naturally to you. You adopted these buildings and they have adopted you. You are certainly at one with them.
I’ve been looking forward to seeing the cows again 💕💕💕! Free lawn service 😆
The renderings by the Barcelona firm are stunning! As is everything which you have planned in your minds' eye. And a pasta-maker in the work crew, fantastico!
Hi Martijn, I agree about the toilet! Even if it is just a L enclosure! Thank you for the beautiful videos. It has been a pleasure to watch your hard work come to such beautiful results! Tell Father we miss him and wish him well!
One of the things I love about watching your videos is, as soon as this one came on, I heard the coffee brewing, paused the video made an espresso coffee, and then returned to enjoy both the video and my coffee. Cheers!
The beautiful videos documenting your activity are the start of my Sunday mornings. Thank you once again.
The pasta making scene reminded me of living in Rome as an architecture student and my elderly Italian neighbor teaching me how to make pasta by hand. T his was such a "feel good" vlog. Thank you-
Just beautiful the sketches of your possible future homestead. I just love watching the process every week. THANKS!
We watch each episode and love what you’re doing. My thoughts are a glass conservatory between the buildings would provide light; views; a place to put a stone floor, an oriental runner, two rocking chairs; and shelter between the structures. It would be great global advertising for a young company doing this type of work.
Yes! I agree! A glass conservatory linking the two buildings together would be superb!!
And possibly to grow veggies in the winter❤️🤗🐝
I had the same idea. A modern steel and glass enclosure linking the 2 ancient buildings. It could add significant square footage to your living space.
fabulous idea
L'orangerie di Monte
Wow, those renderings of ‘how the cabin could look’ are amazing. The space looks so inviting and warm. I can definitely image hunkering down there when rain or snow storms roll in. And that terrace would be such an incredible place to sit to read, visit, or paint, etc🤗👏🏻
I was stunned how beautiful and realistic they looked. I know graphic rendering has improved by leaps and bounds in the past few decades but I am showing my age by being so amazed.
Those renderings are gorgeous and I can imagine just how encouraging they are when being able to see what you are working towards and how each new day sees you another step closer. 🥰
Martjin - you are my favorite Sunday poster. Absolutely beautiful the work you are doing. Thanks so much for sharing. One of these days I'm going to go back and watch from the beginning. I've already seen all of your posts - but it will be so relaxing starting from the beginning again.
cowbells are one of my favourite sounds
Hey Martijn! Been watching from the start and really love the channel and how you have created an outdoor lifestyle as you renovate the property. I am a residential remodeler here in the States so can appreciate the enormous amount of work entailed in rebuilding stone structures from scratch! I do some masonry in my work, but having every single surface seemingly made of stone (except your temp structures/ coop) is incredible! I'm writing now because I just watched you take us through the renderings and I think you have got it spot on for the property!!! When you were pouring the floor I thought the shower pan meant the door was being filled in, but now I see the whole finished layout and it is exactly right. As we say in the business, it always gets uglier before its amazing, so keep going and enjoy the ride! There is no better purpose in life than methodically fulfilling a dream.... you inspire!
Of all my favorite things from this video I most enjoyed watching Martijn walk around his land with a bucket picking up small stones for the walls. Think about it. His land, how it continues to give.
Those pictures are pure perfection. You're creating a little paradise on Earth.
It's a pleasure to see those young men giving their time, strength, sweat ... and "how to make tagliatella" advice! ☺
It's a good trade. A visit for a day of work. You're welcome to visit and lend a hand while you're here. It makes the visit quite pleasant. At the end of the day, you went to a nice place, lend a hand, sweat a bit and had a good time. Not a wasted day at all. You took a trip for fun and came back feeling good about yourself.😊
It’s always nice to have friends stop by and help in the work.
Once again, your exuberant life with your building and creating and incredible hard work comes together in such a magnificent artform. Always such a feast for the eyes, and the soul. Thank you Martijn. 🙏☺️
Martijn, I never tire of admiring your hard work, very well done. His work blends perfectly with this beautiful nature.😊
A woodshed full of firewood and a warm woodstove would be top of my wishlist Martin. Coming along just fine. Homesteading is a 10 year process at least.
I am a HUGE fan of your weekly vlogs. Can't speak enough about your journey. I tell folks about you all the time. If you are considering getting a horse, you will probably need a bigger vehicle and a horse trailer for veterinary visits unless the veterinarians there make house calls. Goats might be cool, too. With all the stone lying around, you should consider building yourself a pizza oven somewhere there near your kitchen area for Fall, Spring/Summer months. As a woman, and a pretty private person, I would definitely enclose the toilet area. Not very appealing to have a toilet bowl in the bedroom (but then again, it's YOUR house, not mine LOL) The renderings are GORGEOUS!!! Loving the terraces and outdoor areas they mapped out. Continue to be safe during your labors and take care! Thanks for the content!
I agree, toilet bowl needs an enclosed space for sure.

Only prisoners sleep next to the toilet! Maybe look at tiny houses for design inspiration to make a separate space for it. I’m sure a good designer could come up with something suitable and space efficient. Love how it’s coming along!
OMGawd, you're funny. Remember, in centuries, past chamber pots were used by kings and queens but were emptied by their slaves 😂
I have no memory of that, only what the revisionist history books may have told us in public school. I know from real history though that there were good, holy kings & queens who treated their employees, that's what we call wage slaves today, extremely well.@@catecalvertarriola3986
So great to see your progress, you're moving along fast, wonderful to see your visions for the future to. It's going to look amazing.
ALL THAT NOISE FROM THE COW BELLS WOULD SEND ME JUMPING OFF A CLIFF IN A HEARTBEAT. NOTHING COULD DESTROY THE PEACE AND TRANQUILITY OF THE PLACE MORE THAN THAT. EXCEPT MAYBE A BUNCH OF DOGS BARKING ALL DAY.
you've made me appreciate chickens. they really like you. it's cute as heck.

@@DNN88 he's looking for someone to share his life with so would think she'd appreciate some privacy - even medieval castles had it
I lived like this in NYC. My apartment was small too, built in 1888, and the toilet was in the middle, not far from the front door but also next to the biggest window in the place and I didn't want to lose the light by boxing it in. Was kind of nuts but I built a low wall around it with an aquarium on the top part, so it felt light and airy, and you could watch the fish while you sit on the pot.
Just shit outside in the wild, plenty of space for it 👌🤣
Wow! All the hard work you are doing to create something very beautiful. Impressive! My kids and I built a pond using rocks we gathered from our surrounding hills. We lined the pond and the edges of it with them. I really enjoyed fitting all the rocks together, like a puzzle. Your cabins are beautinow and will be even more beautiful when you are finished.
Your videos are so lovely, Martijn! I look forward to seeing them every week. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

I love the visualizations from the Barcelona company and how your place might look when you’re finished with the work. I’m in the Pyrenees mountains Spain and my environment is similar to yours. Regarding the toilet in the bedroom, I hope you will consider adding a little bathroom in the bedroom for the sake of your lady friends when they visit you. I think they will need the privacy. Love you❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful video of your week Martijn….I love how the chickens chatter to you. The cow bells…well the sound is just perfect for the Italian mountains. I felt really excited by the pictures of how your future home might look…a sense of tradition, movement, layers and practicalities. Always the sense of sadness at the end of each week though…I find it hard to let go 😊💜😊 Blessings and love to all 💜

looks awesome.. maybe you could close off the bathroom in the small cabin,, and use the foldable bed or a couch that turns in to bed to save space.. I also think the idea of open toilet is a bit much.. 🙂
In hotels the toilets are also in a seperate space, but not in jails 😎
Look for Japanese/Asian solutions for small spaces. Their ideas are top notch.
I would turn the bed 180 degrees and move it 1.35 meters towards the fireplace then enclose the toilet and sink with a glass opaque wall and door. This way the bed faces the fireplace which could also have a tv/monitor over it for watching movies in bed.
@@RobertMcGuckin-ws6pe A tv is the last thing that is fitting for a cabin, or even fitting to Martijn's standards. I bet he never watches TV.
@ws4860 ha ha - thats kind of what he's gonna have. But, the way he's describing it, it's gonna be an emergency use only type of this - like if you had to rock a p*** on a snowy, cold night and you didn't want to exit the building. One wud assume #2 is verboten unless it was immediate emergency😂
The results of the visualisation of the future look of the cabins and garden are mind-blowing.
What excellent previews of how your cabin can be. Definitely a help for flagging energy when you break yet another pick axe! Really not sure about the toilet in the bedroom though!
I open your weekly video and my shoulders drop, and I just give myself over to the pleasure and relaxation of seeing what's been happening at your place. How nice it must be to see the excavating and earth moving going so quickly, with the help of this week's volunteers. And the rendering of what your place could look like in the future is stunning! The terraces make it look so comfortable, like it's been that way since the cabins were first built. The men who first built them must be watching over you with hearty approval. And with the professional work on the windows, it looks like you might get to spend this coming winter in the cabin. Thank you for sending us these updates and glimpses of the incredibly beauty of your mountains.
Incredible amount of teamwork to get the landscaping, stone moving, indoor masonry, and meals done. Those renderings from that small company that's working with you were fantastic! I thought they had some advanced time-photography and those pictures they sent you were actually from the future! So well done and realistic. I only hope I have enough years left to me so that I can see them come to fruition for you. This was just a satisfying and soul calming episode with the panoramic aerial shots, the bells and lowing of the cattle, and the laughter of your crew. Thank you for sharing it all with us, Martijn.
The Technology used by the Architect to create those envisioning scenes/photo's fascinates this old man. Money well spent for architect services. It re-energizes your vision for the project. When complete, your retreat in the Alps will be most comfortable.
What an explosion of activity. Really enjoyed the visualization/pictures of what your home may look like. The chickens provide comic relief😊
The scenery is just beautiful! Thank you for sharing your journey.
