The technology stack and how fluid is flexibly of its motion at that pace, plus the pace it carries a single task vs human. Looking at all those en more plus the time it took them to get here, tells you the potential of their approach, you don't need to compare to other robots as human is the only worthy benchmark to reach at this time and age.
ASIMO was very limited in what it could do. You had to program every step and movement it made according to a pre planned route. Yes, it had collision avoidance but it also fell down the stairs and over a few times also. ASIMO didn't learn what wasn't programmed into it, Optimus does. There's a difference.
Nah. It's the ASIMO. I suspect they hired the same bipedal-bot researchers and this demonstration dares to show the resemblances on hardware side. As Isaac Asimov described in his "I Robot" book, robots would be ideal for mining and other activities on airless planets and asteroids. It's a natural for Mars as they will need lots of work to establish a base on Mars, IMO.
I believe that is one of the intended purposes of these robots is to send them ahead to preliminarily prep things.
They're ideal for anything. All dirty and dangerous jobs. They don't need sleep, they don't need food, and they don't need pay (other than the upfront cost). Just electricity. Potentially they can build and maintain each other too, and be involved in every level of production. Harvesting resources, transporting them, refining them, and then building stuff with them. Like a gigantic 3D printer.
