Essentially they are hording wealth and their not being taxed appropriately. It's extremely unlikely you'll become a billionaire from a good idea this is evident in the population of billionaires in comparison to normal people. The American dream isn't real and it never was.

  • I think Optimus is a great Idea. We could use them to build on other planets. Help in hospial settings. Help around your home. Help when the time comes too, to many seniors compared to young people. Optimus would be a great senior care companion. And many families could use Optimus for family companions. To help them in ever day tasks. Optimus is a endless creation. Limitless.

  • Have robots help improve quality of life for elderly and infirm patients in their homes and nursing homes , home health agencies and nursing homes are so understaffed and I'd trust a robot more than I'd trust most CNAs Edit: I don't hate all CNA's, I used to be one, and now I'm a nurse. Just hate the evil ones who neglect abuse and steal from their patients.

  • I can see a future where most people own a personal robot, the way we all have personal computers now. And I see that robot owners will get a couple functions free when purchasing the robot, like vacuuming and dish washing. Additional functions will be available at a nominal fee, via downloads. Example : Trim the bushes would cost $250. Mow the lawn, $250. etc.

    • The technology stack and how fluid is flexibly of its motion at that pace, plus the pace it carries a single task vs human. Looking at all those en more plus the time it took them to get here, tells you the potential of their approach, you don't need to compare to other robots as human is the only worthy benchmark to reach at this time and age.

    • ASIMO was very limited in what it could do. You had to program every step and movement it made according to a pre planned route. Yes, it had collision avoidance but it also fell down the stairs and over a few times also. ASIMO didn't learn what wasn't programmed into it, Optimus does. There's a difference.

    • Nah. It's the ASIMO. I suspect they hired the same bipedal-bot researchers and this demonstration dares to show the resemblances on hardware side. It basically has the same mechanism but newer hardware and software. You can't say it learn better because they are still not showing software side (how they can learn) yet.

  • This is great as long as there is a fail-safe switch to completely shut them down if they get out of control . I'm thinking maybe a code - word not common in any language that could be spoken in an emergency. The code-word should be unique to each robot and created by its owner.

  • it would be awesome if they could be used as avatars with VR until they get good enough to do advanced work independently. would be great for moving heavy equipment, gardening etc. so like lets say you want to dig a hole, you get optimus in position first then you dig in the air with the vr head set on and body sensors, and optimus does the real digging.

  • As Isaac Asimov described in his "I Robot" book, robots would be ideal for mining and other activities on airless planets and asteroids. It's a natural for Mars as they will need lots of work to establish a base on Mars, IMO.

    • They're ideal for anything. All dirty and dangerous jobs. They don't need sleep, they don't need food, and they don't need pay (other than the upfront cost). Just electricity. Potentially they can build and maintain each other too, and be involved in every level of production. Harvesting resources, transporting them, refining them, and then building stuff with them. Like a gigantic 3D printer.

    • I don’t know how much slave owners in the US actually still had to work but in ancient Athens, the upper class had slaves and because of that didn’t have to work. The owners spent all their time on politics and whatever else they wanted to do, as their slaves created and maintained their wealth. The robots could become the modern wealth creators as we just sit back and relax.

Price for one would be pretty high I guess so I think for many it will be unjustifiable, then some percentage of people will probably be afraid of keeping one in their house. However, it’s likely they will sell a lot, maybe like 30.000 a year or something, it depends on the price

The robot represents servitude, dependence and isolation. For those already immobile, robots definitely have their place. Japan is working hard to solve their elderly problem with robots.
