The Worst NBA Game of All Time?

NBA Elite 11 is said to be the worst NBA game of all time, and the true fall of the NBA Live series. But the game never actually released. Now, thanks to emulation, we can see once and for all if NBA Elite 11 was as bad as we heard, or perhaps if the game was treated too harshly.

  • Given that EA was still presentable when this was made, imagine if they gave Live 10 a roster update and a token new feature while building the groundwork for this, and then building on that and going all out for 2012. Could've been pretty good.

    • I don't know about that. 2K11 was so good and so big, they had to put something out to rival it. While waiting a year might've worked better in hindsight, at the time they didn't really have the choice if they wanted to stay alive.

    • Lol. So yall gone sit here and the 145 ppl who liked it gone act like Mike Wang wasnt sent in from 2k? Lol. Like really though what are the chances the man comes n gives Live a great game n leaves a year later to go right back to 2k. That a be like how kd joined the warriors after giving them the series in okc n den going back to okc after he left... Lbs. Mike wang was never "Gone" from 2k just like he was never "in" on nba live.. even if the "developers were idiots"(his words) you walk in a year... Let alone go right back to where you "left from". Thats a simple finesse move. They infiltrated live w a spy n sabotaged their franchise financially. If they stole anything ea could sue, they got their game dragged online n prolly was the root of the Bynum Jesus video going so viral or the bug alone. Lbs. Dpnt sleep on how dirty the game in, mind you 2k had its 2 greatest years when live was missing n the rest is history as we know, the competition was never the same after that. Big business speak n names ring bells the biggest name then n now was MJ. 2k had him, if he said he was in on sumn or sumbody, thats who eerbody backing. Tjats y 2k didnt go big on gameplay it was big on presentation mind you 2k12 had the blacl n white n so forth. Thats all shit they stole from live. They polished their games w stuff from live while blinding eerbody w "the return of jordan" n classic teams. So not only did you love it, ur dad loved it. Thats what we all remember about live growing up. Lol. Dont mind me though im just a guy who has a weird way of predicting stuff n you ask where you get your info... Trust your gut. All praise to the most high.

  • I commend EA for trying to innovate and make something new with NBA Elite 11. But if they were going to try and “re-invent the wheel” they shouldn’t have tried to do it in their regular turnaround. They should’ve took a year off and tried to make the game the best they possibly could.

  • W retrospective video as always Mr. SoftDrink. What's funny though is what I got from this was that 2k mastered the dual analogs quicker than Live or "elite" could which allowed them to take off.. EA would've been smart to postpone that game, Master it even better than 2k, and then release for 12 or 13. Both years of which were some of 2k's more "forgotten" years where the games were good by default because there were no EA games to contend.

  • The foundation of the game was there but the backlash after the demo was released got EA scared and pulled the plug and they never really bothered to polish the formula for all I know. If Live 10 got a roster update and we saw Elite 12/Elite 13 get revealed, tried out, and plays great then we can see great competition between the two basketball games rise. This is what's missing not just in video games but just things in general: Going down safe and trendy routes because the risks may be too much if failure was the result from actual and genuine responses to trends rather than just pandering. NFTs are an example. A lot of companies are jumping on the NFT train which has pretty much led to failure instead of just actually providing something valuable and different to the trend or just rejecting it entirely if it does inevitably lead to failure. While I mostly grew up with 2K instead of Live, it's really sad to see such a great competitor fall down and off like this. Still a great video, Soft. Hope to see more.

  • I went to the community event in 2010 in Vancouver where they showcased Elite 11 to several people from OperationSports and I represented the NBA Live Series Center. I was the only one to give it a thumbs up because I knew it was the future. Boy was I wrong. People want the game to play for them. NBA Elite 11 wasn't finished. No layup slider, no "shooting" fouls on jumpshots no matter what the slider is set at, only in-air collision fouls on layups and dunks. CPU steal and interception slider affects cpu controlled teammates on the users team. User freethrow slider affects cpu freethrow shooting, too. The CPU did not use the regular gather step, except it used the euro and spin gathers, but the normal gather was how you really get to the basket since creating room. It also never shot hook shots. I think I saw 1 in hundreds of hours. There were no banked layups due to the technology behind the aiming of the shot with the right stick. If they had released the game, then patched it's bugs and improved on it in the next years, we would probably have an amazing NBA EA game right now. I've played around 700 hours of Elite 11. Yes, I was able to get the T-pose bug to trigger once. What could have been...

  • It’s a shame, I wonder how the game would have been fully fleshed out if they had another year. And it’s not like people on it have done any better since with the multiple cancellations. I have played Live 18 since it was free and it’s just too barebones, weird controls and player models

  • Rainbow Six Siege is one of the best examples of devs being allowed to take a risk, and then supported, not thrown away when it fails. Rainbow Six Siege was a mess when it first released. It's player count when up, and then steeply down. It was buggy and had many rough spots that turned gamers away, and rightfully so. Yet Ubisoft stuck with the game and the developers, and it became one of the most popular first-person shooters that is critically acclaimed, and many of the features in the game, such as how dynamic maps are with their structural damage, have yet to be replicated with the same quality. You can say what you want about it nowadays, but at its peak, it was head and shoulders the best FPS available, with a rewarding skill gap and many elements that made each round different. Had EA been in charge, the developers probably would've been pulled off to work on other games, and Rainbow Six Siege would be known as the NBA Elite 11 of first-person shooters.

EA added a lot to the game and the first thing I noticed is that there is absolutely NO Canned Animation and like u said we have total control over everything, dribbling, jumpers, dunks, layups.

    • I feel the same way, I liked when NHL used to be amazing, now they only care about one thing, the money hut, it’s Dame shame that there are no good sports games made by EA anymore. 1 of the reasons I don’t play NHL games anymore, due to it’s messing lot of features, game modes from NHL 14 and older games including NHL 2k games and more, gameplay is still on animation based rather than physics, poor balance, tons of bugs and glitches I have ever seen on the sixth gen or seventh gen console, and lack of competition, NHL is the only company made by EA, it sad.

  • I think EA are missing an opportunity by not making NBA live again, I love the 2k games but they really need some competition, If they just make a decent nba game, I think it’ll sell well as a lot of people are getting a fed up with 2k, and are ready for an alternative option. It’d just be nice to have to have two NBA games each year too. They just have to make sure that it’s a good game.

I watch a lot of reviews on games to make sure I’m not gonna be scammed if I were to buy something, but in some games’ case I can’t help, but wanna experience them myself. This is like the second video where I saw someone say the game actually was on a good path(the first was a video about Infinite Warfare). So I feel calm when I see people who are like me, who give games a try despite the bad reception
