  • Everyone knows Pavvi as a cyber expert, but very little is known about his sharp skills as an Infantryman. I had moved into the Valley as a novice with Pavvi as my company officer. He would analyze and forecast terrorist action, which i believed very little in until the autumn operation. On specific int of presence of terrorist (I was the team cdr with Pavvi) we cordoned off the target house. However, despite numerous detailed searches we drew a blank. Standing inside the house we were contemplating our next course of action. Pavvi suddenly yelled ‘Sir get aside, I can smell him, he’s in this room’. I immediately rushed out of the room (though I did not believe him). A thorough search of the room drew terrorist fire from a hideout and we finally neutralized him. I was totally intrigued and on later asking him, he explained that the body language of the house owner indicated terrorist presence while the pungent fear smeared sweat odour confirmed his presence. All thanks to him that I am alive to write this comment. After the incident I have started trusting him more than my life.

Also i used to consider a lot of them slow based on what i heard from one of the friend in my college. This was further reinforced by hearing General/Colonel speaking on tv and twitter. • Col Saheb, ''lack of strategic thinking/planning'': bless you for those words! I am 63, have never used a smart phone; minimal footprint on social media, as well. But coming back to the absence of strategic thinking, I am deeply concerned that today we have no way to communicate to our ''betters' in the Indian establishment about some things one might feel are vital to our security interests, and are of a time-sensitive nature. May I connect with you somehow and send you the names of a couple of organic chemicals as well as some of their derivative products? As an infantry commander in Kargil, you will at once see what is relevant about these materials. Also, our food production systems are wildly out of order; exceptionally vulnerable. I don't know if the PMO or the Indian economists, intoxicated with the fumes of their own supposed cleverness, ably abetted by their obsessively anti-national conditioning., are in any position to advise our leaders about the clear and present dangers facing us. Just as Barkha Dutt was at Kargil, taking real -time pictures of the artillery positions, a feat she repeated in Mumbai. Modiji was able to devote 3 days of his very precious time to a national meet on Natural Farming, but might not be similarly enthusiastic about thinking through some counter-intuitive suggestions on our food security, and energy concerns. Whoever has been feeding Nitin Gadkariji specious nonsense about 'green hydrogen" and ''biofuels" need to be countered by opposing points of view , based on scholarly evidence and the unrelenting principles of thermodynamics. Would you be willing to find some ears willing to listen to some urgent concerns, or be willing to listen to such yourself? One other person would be most valuable: Sri Jayshankar's brother, who began his career as a game theorist under someone I know well and who can voich that I am not insane, by a long shot. Hare Srinivasa

India is way behind in Cyber security and it takes lot of effort for Govt and others to implement the security practices. Schools should start security as a subject from class 6 to colleges, universities as a mandatory subject.

Area cordoned off and house searched time and again, drew a blank but op party was very sure that he is there. Once Pavi homed on to the hide, the terrorists opened up. There are other bold and out of the box ideas that he implemented in his ops. Intelligence and psy ops were his passion. No wonder he is in this field!! Unconventional thinking is his nature. Hope at least now, his skill and ideas are used for the national security. Wish him the very best.

  • To decipher the concluding statement by sir. India has already deployed ICT products like handsets, internet,IP,systems etc etc which are not at all Indian and we are heavily relying on those products for our daily affairs. One press on kill switch or amendment in use case scenario, we are doomed we will lose. Recently when the GOI had put out order regd to non-usage of Chinese phones in Mil estb but then what's the other option? Apple? Again a US made phone & US has never been a good ally, overtly they may show but covertly they are against India's growth & always vested with interests. It's important now voters irrespective of political party ideology constantly demand for reforms in these domains & focus more on these issues if we force them to think on these things then only there will be action & we will be nearer to victory or else we will just end up in sledging & debating on wrong issues all time and enemy will play it's checkmate move sitting thousand kms away.
