Full coverage from the ExCeL as Japan's Ai Fukuhara takes on China's Ning Ding in the quarter-finals of the women's table tennis singles event at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
In 1926, meetings were held in Berlin and London that led to the formation of the International Table Tennis Federation. The first World Championships were held in London in 1926, but the sport had to wait a long time before it was given its Olympic debut at the 1988 Seoul Games.

Do the Japanese players speak in Chinese? Edit: Apparently Ai Fukuhara speaks fluent Chinese from training with the Chinese national team and her coach is Chinese
Fukuhara is also friends with Liu Shiwen and Ding Ning, since she has trained in the Chinese National team and learned Mandarin very well.

So happy so such great players playing.. Just loved watching.. If harimoto has played half the game Ai played, he would have screamed his throat out and annoyed the whole arena.. Just love the game and nature of Ai

I'm just wondering but can't you use your own rackets here? Are they just giving you some new rackets that you never used before?
The players use their normal rackets. The just have to give them to the umpires for a racket control before the match

@@op9764 The Chinese girl has a very typical face u would see in China and Ai has a relatively recognizable Japanese face. The two look noticably different.
Ding is leaner than Ai, so that’s probably one of the ways the two are different. It’s hard to explain in words, but the two are distinguishable from each other.

I though I know that kids through intense physical training from a young age can shape their body and limbs into the perfect tool for this particular sport, I still question the masculinity of Chinese contestants, do they dope testosterone throughout their life to have a physical advantage? They might.

@@climba100 Well Chinese generally have a bigger build than Japanese. Japanese have the reputation of being short and they're usually characterized by having shorter limbs.
