The rhinoceros iguana (Cyclura cornuta) is one of the coolest lizards in the world. In many ways they are better pets than their cousin the green iguana. But is the rhino iguana the best pet reptile for you?

  • About 25 years ago, I worked at a pet store that had a full grown male. He shredded two of my fingers when I was taking the water bowl out of his cage. He bit down so hard that his teeth went through my fingernails. It took about 15 years for the scars to finally fade. There were even scars under my nails! But there was blood everywhere, even splattered on the glass of the tank he was in. I left a blood trail from his cage to the bathroom (about 50 feet), I also got extremely ill within 24 hours (salmonella). I handle large lizards regularly, but these guys scare the hell out of me.

  • Beautiful animal. I agree with you on greens, while as a beginner over 20 years ago I had unusually good results, especially with a full grown stub tailed adult rescue who had full roam of my apartment and I think just appreciated the care, babies and juvies can be a handful. This video is the first time I have even considered getting an Iguana again other than a Cuban Rock Iguana. SO Clint, when are you going to feature a Sailfin Dragon?? I would also love to see a video on the Blue Tego. I understand they are an Argentine mix that grow much smaller? With the Argentine blood I am curious of their temperament. Had I known about Tegus 25 years ago when I could pick a young adult up for $75 they would have been my first choice over Savannahs and Greens, both of which I had extraordinary results with, my Savannah having a very similar temperament, I definitely would have gone the Argentine Tegu route. Thanks for all you do to educate the public; your service to others and reptiles is truly invaluable!

  • For that... I would renovate my outdoor patio and pool area with several trees and a rock ledge... and bars over the screen because those claws would rip straight through standard screens like tissue. I live in Florida by the way, so temp and humidity wouldn't be an issue except in Jan or Feb.

  • The Rhino Iguana is by far my favorite animal and I reaserch them a lot (even though I won't get one until after college). I love big animals with a passion, big dogs, big birds, big snakes, and especially big lizards. It doesn't help I love lizards in general, my baby is a bearded dragon I get her out everyday and I've become her glorified pillow and climbing thing. I seriously can't exaggerate how much I love Rhino Iguanas, they're a lizard, huge, and both badass but cute.

  • Hi Clint. I have a very good idea for you, and that is to make a video comparing the green iguana with the Rhino iguana. There are 3 very good reasons to do so. 1. They are both iguanas by name and have very similar abilities. 2. Their diets are very similar and they both need similarly sized inclosures with only a couple of thing differing between them. 3. They both recieved the exact same score of (2.6 out of 5) for only slightly different reasons. If you haven't already done it, they why not give that a go.
