Finally got the twin turbos installed on my 1983 Ford f250 with a 6.9 idi. it don't make much boost or power but that's to be expected from these gutless 6.9/7.3 international's.

Let this guy cook.
His brain 🧠 is cooked
@@A2ZREY At least he's got one unlike you 😂😂
He need to work that drivetrain up to par and then he’ll start cooking
its pegs long lost son, yer stunned!
I knew it
How stunned ?? All of it!!
Can deny the truth.
this man's a young two legged Peg with a 6.9 instead of a 7.3, send er to the ketchup and don't forget the beer!
Fuck yeah 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Exactly what I was thinking
*this man's a young wanna be Peg There. Fixed it for you. 😁
Zip ties n bias plies 2.0. Love it 👊🏼👌🏼
Exactly what I thought too
More like zip ties n bias plies negative 2.0 👎🏻
When you ran that engine with the up pipes open, it reminded me of when I was a tank mechanic in the marine corps. The engine was a 1790 cubic inch V12 contiental twin turbo diesel. We would pull the engine, set it on the ground, run jumper electric and fuel to the tank, and run the engine on the ground. Standing right between the two turbos. pull the throttle wide open hahaha. It would rattle your guts. We were 20. We didnt need hearing protection either
idk, that's the quickest IDI I've seen
That hackjob has no right to sound as cool as it does. That's amazing. I need to get mine built; I have an '83 engine too. ARP studs right away, and the inconel valves from a 7.3 should hold up to the ChinazonBay ball bearing GT35 quite well 😁
in aus.. i have a 2000 s/duty. its the mwm sprint 4.2tdi veriaty. beazilian.. fitted a bigger slanti turbo, std is td04, i got a [big], td06. std nm is 510. now has 700. std killer wasps is 135, now has 180..kw. 14 lt 100, tows 4.5t.. love these not correct vids..
I like it. Im running 40 psi with a s366 on my build 7.3 idi. Its a blast. If you have any questions feel free to hit me up,

Thanks for the offer what's the best way to contact you?
@AlecsAdaptationsYT FB message is easier, I have a Instagram too
Boy would you just look at this mouth breathers work I'm subscribed now don't won't to miss a thing
That's a pretty awesome turbo setup, I want to do something like that to mine. The factory turbo system is horrible. I will tell you this though, 15psi on an IDI will beat a stock 7.3 powerstroke, but only if you give it more fuel and more RPM. The factory pumps are super limiting. I have the R&D 90cc pump in mine as well as aftermarket valve springs, a big cam, and big injectors, and it makes a huge difference. Having full power up to 4200rpm is awesome.
The power is all in your fuel pump internals and settings. Doesn’t matter how much airflow potential, you need fuel to build exhaust gas pressure to build boost to make that airflow potential from the turbos for the power you want. They’re large turbos so need a lot of exhaust gas pressure to build any meaningful boost
All that matters is that it cheeches and makes turbo noises, miiiiint! 😁👌
She’s wayyyy quicker than my buddys ol 6.9.. and that was a healthy one with shorter gearing. She’s woke up pretty good!
I love the destroyed knuckles through half the video
This video made my day yesterday, good content. Excited for more
doing see many people doing stuff with these ideas. i wish there was more content like this keep it up!
Gotta love these kinds od vibes man!
Still the fastest brick i've ever seen. It may not be stupid fast, but that sound combined with the get up and go just makes this awesome
Okay, I was letting you go off, then you showed a t100 for an example for the heater crap, subbed from Texas!🤠
Awesome video man I look forward to the engine build!
Thanks
I have an IDIt for my overlander rig. Big turbo gtx3582 Intercooler New injection pump E lift pump New injectors 3” down pipe 4” exhaust Head studs V banded intake It’s definitely not “fast” but speed isn’t something I’m interested in for a 13000 lb rig. I have been extremely satisfied with the engine. It’s simple, tough, easy to work on with plenty of torque and the sound is wonderful. It’s a great engine for what I’m after. I’m glad to see all of the people interested in the platform. They are a ton of fun Great content
We had an OG 6.9. gotta love the international diesel. this thing will run with nothing more than a couple of power wires running to the valve on the injector pump. No HEUI, no electronic bs, Just fill it full of your favorite lamp oil, & a way you go. Ours was an actual fire truck with a heavy duty alternator. You would have to step on the gas to start the alternator working, even after the engine was runnin. Gotta love the 6.9/7.3 IH IDI. (I think the only difference was a head bolt or somethin.)😮😊
You will get wherever you want though, you will get there
You idi guys are your own special breed. lol 15 yrs ago I bought a idi with cracked heads and a banks sidewinder. Bought a used set of heads. and a few days later. That Idi was actually rowdy like a tuned 6.0 psd kind rowdy. But those heads only lasted that one weekend. Lol I dunno much about those old motor's but most likely they need that high compression to help with cold morning starts. If you get that compression down by porting the bowls and delip it will allow you to pull some more timing and make some decent gains Would also need a fast starter maybe modify a 6.4 or 6.7 I wouldn't worry about to much boost. Boost isn't the problem its the high temps that kill diesels from over fueling. Boost is a measurement of restriction. But it also a multiplier of hp. get a good exhaust temp gauge. try to aim the stoic air fuel ratio around 20 to 1. Then should see a lil over 380-400 hp at around 15-20 psi. I wouldn't go anymore on a non-bed plated bottom end.
Believe me man, we have this shit all figured out.
Almost everything in this comment either doesn't apply to these engines, or is just wrong. I dont want to call anyone out, but dont want everyone believing it either.
"Don't worry about boost" "overfueling is the problem" 🤦♂️ jump up while falling down, too. The real irony here is the fact that a DB2 pump won't even overfuel a idi at moderate to high boost levels. A DB2 will barely overfuel an idi at low boost.
Awesome job man
Pretty good editing and quality of video for having under 1,000 subs props
Loved the Great Escape reference.
sounds rad!
Cool project, I wonder if you would get more response from it by going to a pair of smaller turbos? Say like 2, 2.5L Chrysler units, would get all the same cool twin whistle but being smaller they would spool faster and make same boost pressure on there stock waste gates. Really enjoy the video, keep working on her, I’m intrigued
I love my 7.3 IHI. Thing is solid😂 only at 200k and its never had anything more serious than a water pump leak. Been thinking about intercooling it and throwing some fuel and a bigger smoke whistle on it
OH RIGHT ON! 🇨🇦 She rips now! 12 psi is plenty. Turn that fuel up and the boost will go up too.
He is maxed on a 6.9 pump. Maybe pushing like 70cc tops
I have more fuel in my 2.0HDi after tune. It does almost 180hp@crank and like 400nM@crank. It does 6L/100kms doing 120km/h and when needed it rips! Smol fwd "wagon" where You could fit a 2man air matress in the back. Sadly, Citroens aren't goin to murica (It's Citroen C5 from 2006 ). Hope You keep doin good cars that some europeans can flex in city centres :D @@IDI_Diesel
That tech is dope as frig lad, 😎🚬 Yea got a spot where an east coaster can find one 😆
I have a 6.9 that I put 3" dual exhaust on and turned up the pump, it really rips.
On sum real this guy is sick asf
Definitely Peg vibes. Great video.
Great video
This thing actually responds a lot better than i expected, I thought it'd be a laggy turd. Might be better, or at least on par with the tp38(obs 7.3) turbo i had on my 7.3. That was doing 15ish psi, maybe a little slower to get there. Good video!
HELL YEAH BROTHER!!
Impressive, you should put out more IDI videos. Subscribed
subbed, this kids the next ZIpTiesAndBiasPlys for sure. that 896 going to 896k no doubt. (don't read to much into the liked comments they are quotes and reference's from another guys youtube that he moved over to patreon due to censorship lol)
This is great, like a younger version of zipties&biasplies.
Man that sounds good lol
Single turbo of that size would work great.
thats fuckin awesome bud you remind me of Peg from zipties&biasplies, im glad to see your hook on diesel not on fuckin dope keep up0 the bad ass savagery with the fords, youtube ull work you up the ladder, make sure not to cus for the first 5 minutes or so in the video an they wont know shit lol, this is sick tho we love us some greazy ol fords
pro tip, add a ton of lights in your shop, 2x of what you think you need and paint the walls white, with cameras more light is better
Rowdy af
The R&D cam wakes IDIs up. The stock cam just fights boost even turbo from the factory. It's the bottleneck. It even really helps NA engines.
Good too know, I've been making a list of parts to build a "performance" engine for this setup
Fine. I’ll follow
Badass
If something, it sounds badass. Like mercedes twin turbo diesels.👍
E for effort!! But yea you need to add fuel. I’ll be night and day
Yer stunned Willard
You can take every thing from the 6.9 and bolt it to a 7.3 idi i did in my 1987 f250.
Glow plug Tip swap out for part number AC-12g / glow plugs .[[4.3l Oldsmobile 1984 diesel ]]]part i think but it works and no timing box needed just a 12 volt ford starter solenoid as the relay switch i did mine that way best thing i ever did no more dead glow plugs
Thanks for the info
nice
If we get this guy piston as much as zipties then we’ll be golden
This man watches zip ties n bias plies I see… a fellow man of culture!
Two legs, two turbos MINNNNT
I’ll say that gets with it for a idi!!!!
Friggin love it! You in BC?? I'm in Hope 🤙🤙
Cool
You need a upgraded DB2 pump, injectors and a cam swap if you want to go deep with it. I used to participate on a diesel site and we ran all kind of scenarios. Look up Moose Pump, Baby Moose pump. Adding air and no fuel just makes the old girl run cleaner, and we don't want that. Colt or Bullet can make a cam for the IDI.
First thing he needs is an intercooler. Then all the fun important stuff you listed
Im probably the only guy who wants an old 6.9 ford i love those trucks
I had one I never got on the road, just beat it thru the woods, I spend years looking for another one and finally got one on the road. Love these road tractors.
Not the only one, I miss my 7.3 idi f350...
It’s Pegs long lost son!
12-14 PSI on a stock pump is pretty good for these engines, no matter how many turbos you have.
Needs more fueling. My single ats093 with just a 90cc injection pump hits about 16-18psi on a steep grade (removed the wastegate vacuum hose).
Miiint 👌
This setup with one of those turbos Wastegated would improve both spool and boost, one diesels We rarely need the flow of twin turbos, We need the boost to force flow, having both in a compound setup would be ideal to make a lotta boost 60psi+
That much boost on a NA engine would blow it to peices.
A like purely for the great escape reference
F-ing mint 👌
You don’t want to make a lot of boost with those turbos. Giant heat pumps after about 10 psi. Actually might be ok with only 4 cylinders feeding them. This is something I would build 😅 oh it looks like you have a waterbed for front suspension 😂
needs more duramax or cummins but sounds good so thats 80% of the way there
Almost looks like some southern berta landscape there bud. Cool build! Sub'd for more shenanigans!
sounds so fucking good
Kool
Canadian Humor ? Eh ? Trucks Mint & Righteous.
Pretty hard to judge usable power in the snow right?
If you cant get more fuel out of that pump , try propane injection. A couple bbq regulators and a couple solenoid valves is the basics you need. Some safteys are nice and auto engage is nice but a button to activate us all thats absolutely necessary.
Holy fuck bro them welds seen better days, if you want some weld tips lmk
They'll take more boost than everyone on the internet wants to say. Kind of like the 6.5 guys saying 15psi will split a crankshaft in half. My 6.5 has been running 25-30psi of boost for over a decade towing and tons of miles on it. No head studs or anything special. There's a company that does performance DB2 pumps for the 6.5, 6.9, and 7.3 and they're fairly affordable. You won't make crazy power but it'll bring it clear of the gutless turd category.
I subscribed cause i want to see where this goes
Keep it up bud. Idi sounds cool for once.
Band clamps and swivel casters
Neat! Realistically, these engines can take around 8 PSI long term, because they don't have upgraded head studs, beefier pistons, wrist pins, larger compression ring, intermediate ring, enlarged ring lands, and an upgraded oil cooler like the later turbocharged models, which also have a much lower CR of 18:1
Pshhh Vw 1.6D has 23:1 CR and has no problem doing 25 psi all day.
@fastinradfordable yeah probably because it's much smaller displacement, and has the upgraded parts
@@fastinradfordable I mess around with those Vw 1.6s a lot, me and my dad even swapped one into his 93 Toyota t100. We push 30 psi normally on stock engine, but I had no idea they had that much compression.
No, plenty of people are running these at 25 plus with no issues when studded. These can handle about 45lbs on a stock bottom end when studded.
@@IDI_Diesel hence why I said they need the upgraded studs
dont lie, you know you laid those god awful welds on those turbo exhaust pipes 🤣
I can’t wait to see it build 28psi and launch a cylinder head into orbit
it would be funny to watch
I had a 86, could not pull itself out of a puddle..... I do miss that old truck thought, could seat 6 people very comfortably..... will hit play now and find out what happened.....
What part of Alberta?¿?
As old peg says, pump it with your half good leg lol.
You can't "turn up" the factory pump enough to make dual turbos do much of anything on the IDI's. If you want real power you need to either buy or rebuild your pump and enlarge the internals in the pump. There are places that you can get that stuff. I think the factory pump flows something around 80-90 CC or something like that, been a while since I messed with these a lot, however you can get more than double that out of those pumps. I put a 110cc on my 7.3 Turbo IDI before I sold it. If you are going to put two turbos on a diesel like that and want to get more power you should put them in a compound arrangement. That increases the total boost assuming you have the fuel spin them. I got myself into this trouble with my Turbo IDI which I bought with a bad turbo. I bought a turbo that I was told was a direct replacement only bigger. The asshole I bought it from saw a NOOB a mile away and cheated me good. The turbo was bigger, a LOT bigger and even with the 110cc pump it would produce about 5psi of boost if you were going up a hill with your foot denting the firewall. Those engines can be made to put out decent power 350hp 600torque but it's not cheap. You will spend more getting that amount of power out of an IDI than you would if you bought a 5.9 and the parts to get it to the same power. Personally I liked the IDI's but they aren't powerhouses without a fair bit of cash and I believe they have a lower ceiling than the 5.9 unless you retrofit a P-pump to it. Now if you want to spend 10-15k on a pump and retrofit the heads to accept the Cummins injectors along with the powerstroke rods and pistons you could probably push the 7.3 into 4 digits or at least close. Don't know how long it would live there but it's going to cost you 20-25k on the conservative side. Personally I would upgrade the pump to a 120-130cc pump, head studs, decent turbo, and intercooler, and let it live at the 275hp or so you will have there.
Idk a 7.3 with bigger hpop, injectors, turbo on a hot tune makes a ton of power....it's not a lp5 Duramax but it's also a lot simpler to work on
redline for a good time bud. fuck yeah lol
15:20 For science, of course
Sounds good though lol
its still old fuel? untuned? maye she still gots MOAR!! the rpms, dont let em DRAWP! more beefy clutch launch in gear TOO! im an 83, good year keep er GOEN!! FUEL: MORE SKWERT AIR: MORE KOOLED EXHAUST: MORE O2BANDED HEADS MORE TITER INJECTION MORE H20 EYE-D-EYE CAPN
Those are 2 6.t diesal turbos not great but they do the Job
Love what you're doing. I have one serious question...what turbos are those? I ask because they look like GM 3/4/8 turbos. All of them are slightly different from each other. All of them suck. Their drive ratio is like 2.5:1 and they max out between 8 and 12 psi. At full throttle on a GM 6.5 diesel. An actual good turbo option would likely be a cummins HX35. Even stock it is WAY better
14:09
@@treeswift1420 thanks man, I didn't get to finish the video. I hope he gets better turbos. Those are terrible.
I daily a 3rd gen cummins, I gotta say... I FEEL ATTACKED AND I DONT HAVE THAT MANY TOOFS! Also, 33psi makes ma clutch all slippy
So you added more air but you need to add more fuel to make power?
He turned up the fuel to the max he mentioned how he bottomed out the screw for the fuel make it happener
What’s a idi how about more shots of the vehicle?
