Technically, the Caps only eliminated two teams: Detroit and Pittsburgh. It was Detroit who eliminated Philadelphia by getting to overtime against the Habs.

@@Hashmusical I wouldn't put it past Torts (or anyone in Philly sports) to do something out of spite, but it is plausible that he didn't know and was focused on winning the game.
Dude I'm so excited for the play-offs this year. You can actually make arguments for every of the 16 teams in the playoffs, that they can win the stanley cup. Even the Isles, Caps or Kings, which may seem as outsiders, I would not underestimate their playstyle, especially in the playoffs, they can do it too. As a wings fan it’s been a wild week. I’m glad it’s over. Rebuild is almost complete, hopefully they take a step forward this off-season rather than back.
We need one more good two-way forward. This is why while I'd love for us to keep Kane, I won't be salty if he decides to go somewhere else if we solve that issue. We need solid 200' players more than an HoF-bound 70' forward.

That shit that the NBA is pulling makes that league less enjoyable
Problem is it's rare. I don't want a playin but I'd love a wildcard battle each and every year.
@@Matanumi At least in the NBA there aren't 12 teams that are all virtually identical because of a cap. The NHL has gone too far with parity and now it's simply completely unpredictable and the Cup is mostly just which team gets the luckiest during the playoffs. The NHL is already the league where luck most determines outcomes and all parity has done is amplify that to the extreme. In my opinion it's made the cup less special. I don't want 5 year dynasties anymore but I would like a LITTLE bit of difference between an 8 seed and a 1.
You're right. It left me speechless again, as it once again gets another goal wrong, which potentially shifted the entire eastern conference playoff structure. When is this league going to make sure it gets it right, instead of relying on the eyesight and sharpness of 50+ year old refs to follow the puck? Feel bad for Flyers fans, after all that team went through this year, to go out because of the league's continued incompetence.
Got two goals wrong. The Wings last minute equalizer came off a non existing icing call.
the script just be scripting bud
In fairness literally everyone on the ice, all 11 of the professional hockey players on that end of the rink, also thought Lindgren must have had it for a few seconds. It was long enough that if you believe the puck is out of play, you blow the play dead.
@@Falllll I certainly thought so, given the way he seemed to be clutching it to his chest. I do like the continuation rule, but it didn't apply here.
As much as it did screw the Flyers, it was the right call. Everyone lost track of the puck at that moment in time. I can't really fault the ref for losing track as well and inadvertently blowing the whistle early. Also, at the end of the day, the Flyers did this all to themselves. They had the 3rd Seed in the Metro easily, and then they folded like a house of cards. They should have never put themselves in that position in the first place.
Love this style of video keep up the good work.
Your weekly recaps are the best, thanks for them I enjoyed the breakdowns day by day.... Lets Go Rangers!!!
If Philly hadn’t imploded for 8 games and had pulled out a win or two against Montreal (2 losses), Buffalo, Columbus, or Chicago, none of this would have mattered. They’d have easily secured a spot. That mini-meltdown cost them the postseason. But in the final game in particular, if you didn’t have a jackass ref unable to follow a puck flying up into the air and blowing a play dead that was very much alive, thus costing Philly a goal, they would have had a 2-1 lead and wouldn’t have needed to pull the goalie. They’d still be out because Montreal can’t be counted on to hold a lead, apparently, blowing a lead in back to back games against Detroit, but then Detroit and Pittsburgh would still be chewing their nails to see who gets in. It was a crazy ending, but it sure made it more fun.
In defense of the ref, everyone on the ice lost track of the puck and it took a really weird bounce up in the air in the first place.
@@troybaxter It's his job to be better than that. But hey, all 4 of them were too blind to see the too many men also, so we'll just give em a pass on everything since even the basics couldn't be covered.
@@NmDPlm31I will give you that one, but I think it is wrong to put the blame on the refs here in the first place. The Flyers HAD the 3rd Spot in the Metro. And they choked it away over the span of 2 Months. That's on them for missing the playoffs. Likewise, the Red Wings HAD the last Wild Card spot, but again, they also choked it away over the course of 2 Months. None of this happens if either team wins 1 or 2 more games during that stretch.
@@troybaxterAbsolutely no disagreement there. Philly had every opportunity to win games against some of the dregs of the league but imploded for an 8 game losing streak. They win even ONE of those and much of this is pointless. But that was the past. Nothing could be done about that last night. But you can expect your officials to not blow a call that does ultimately heavily shift the balance of the playoff outcomes for multiple teams in that present moment. I mean, it is what it is now, and the League will never address it or correct it anyway. They love the incompetence of their refs. Now it's just time to settle in for the best hockey time of the season: PLAYOFFS!
@@NmDPlm31 I have my issues with the refs too, but at the end of the day, you shouldn't allow your fate to come down to a ref, especially when he makes a legitimately honest mistake. To me, to blame the ref here is nothing more than a scapegoat from your team's problems and inadequacies.

Going to have to find a way to score. 2 non-EN goals in last 2 games. That's not going to win many SCP games. They really need to work on cycling in the zone to create better scoring chances. Too often they just play the outer perimeter and blast away. While that does generate some chances and some goals....too often it just results in turning the puck over on low grade chances. Need to get into the paint, block goaltender sight and get better scoring chances.
That would be a great series. I think you’d get 7 games out of it.

Not his fault and the only reason Detroit didn't make it is Detroit.
@@Gl-my8fw No, it's not really Tort's fault as he didn't know. But Detroit is definitely not the ONLY reason they didn't make it. I get your point though. Even though the flyers ran out of gas toward the end Torts was able to squeeze every ounce out of this team and exceed expectations. Not to mention being able to keep the team together during the Carter Hart situation which could have destroyed the locker room right there.
It's gonna be extra funny when the Caps knock off the Rags in round 1.
Caps will get swept
For the Caps to make playoffs and eliminate the Pens, Redwings and Flyers in the same game is a Cinderella ending for the Caps (the NHLs Platypus) hehehehe

as a panthers fan j would love to say that we actually did dominate for 60 minutes like he said at 9:34 but in reality our first period was awful, as we went down 2-0. but we scored 4 goals including 3 in 5 minutes to win. (not to mention the empty netter to make it 5-2)
Just goes to show that the Wings have more growth to experience. You can’t implode when your captain is out injured. They needed some leaders to step up and fill in while he was gone. Raymond certainly deserves the praise for his performance this season. But this in my opinion is the best result for the Red Wings. Maybe with some shifting players around some for next season they can play with a little more consistency and tighten up their defense. Then you don’t have to rely on a chaotic last week of the regular season and other teams for your playoff chances. Put it in your own hands with better play and lock in a spot before the last day of the season. All that said the Wings had one of the best seasons since moving over to the LCA. We have some good things to look forward to soon!
Hand of Gott
As a wings fan, i can only really blame the wings. 7 game losing streak, lost to arizona twice by a combined score of 8-1, choked a 4 goal lead against the sharks, lost twice to washington and lost to Pittsburgh. Hell, even this game, the wings only looked like the better team when they were losing. Beat a team playing for nothing convincingly and philly doesnt pull their goalie. This team was far too inconsistent, no games felt easy because they could beat the top teams, but also lose to the bottom feeders. Wings had an 8 point lead for the playoffs at one point, its on them that they lost it.

I'm a Capitals fan, but I don't get the hate. They grinded out wins against Tampa, Boston, and Philly in 4 days while the wings lost 8 straight down the stretch. Why is it the Caps' fault they made it in?
People seem preoccupied with the goal differential not realizing that most of the goals were given up in the early part of the season and this team gradually got better defensively and grinded their ways through victories. It seems like the only teams that give Caps most problems are Toronto and Buffalo. Those two teams just skate around them and score all sorts of weird goals against the Caps. Thankfully Buffalo is going fishing and Toronto is being traumatized about losing to Boston again !!!
No, it's not that. It's the stupid tiebreaking metrics. The wings have more wins and up until 2020 they would be the team going in because they outperformed Washington in every single tie breaking metric except regulation wins. Congratulations, you got rewarded for losing.
@@hockeyme3113 So you just want to change the tie-breaking rules in the middle of the season ? Is that it ? Everybody knew the first tie-breaker was ROW before the season started.
They're an old team that isn't going anywhere. They sold at the deadline. They play boring hockey and have been in the playoffs endless times. If the red wings got in, they'd still lose but at least it'd help build towards the future with the experience. It's pretty obnoxious watching the same teams over and over again in the playoffs. It would have been better for the sport if the Wings got in.

As a wings fan, I'm more disappointed that we got knocked out by a team with one less win than us. Doesn't seem right. Yes they had more regulation wins, but shouldn't overall wins count more? I mean, they got the tie because of the 1 point from overtime LOSSES too. Don't think that makes sense. Like what if a team won a playoff series because they got 3 wins in regulation, and the other team only had 1 reg. win, and 3 OT wins? Overall wins should count more, just like a playoff series

In the West, Vegas currently sits 3rd in the Pacific with 98 pts and 34 RWs, Nashville in the first WC spot with 99 pts and 38 RWs, LA in the second WC spot with 97 pts and 37 RWs. Nashville has played their 82nd game, so they are most likely awaiting the results of Anaheim-Vegas and Chicago-Los Angeles. Vegas has the fewest RWs amongst the three teams, so a win over Anaheim will give them 3rd in the Pacific and a first round match-up with the Oilers. A loss of any kind opens the door for LA to sneak into 3rd in the Pacific, and knock Vegas to the second WC spot, leaving Nashville in the first WC spot. If both win and LA's win over Chicago was in regulation, they would be tied with Nashville in both pts and RWs, so what would be the next tiebreaker if that happens?
I am a depressed wings fan, me and my family were going nuts during that game and all for the other game to decide our fate. What a crazy exciting finish though!!!
Seeing how great Raymond performed in these important games shouldn't have left you too depressed though. He's a big part of this teams future and he stepped up.
The Chicago AHL's is my pick to win the cup. The team consisting of guys on rookie contracts
Not to mention the draft position implications with the Habs And Sens games
