@Eric Williamson Eric???
I had bought a copy of FireRed when it was brand new, birthday money and everything, and on the box it said that it came with a copy of the wireless adapter so you could trade pokemon with your friends. So, my surprise when I opened up the box and found only the game... was immeasurable and quickly built to frustration before giving way to apathy since, at the time, I had no friends I could trade with anyway. It still upsets me to this day and makes me rather glad that the newer consoles come with that kind of thing built into the game/console rather than needing a separate adapter.
I can confirm that here in Spain, the "official Nintendo Acción guide" for Pokemon Red and Blue did sugest to catch a digglet before facing Lt. Surge, recommended for an easy battle against Brock using grass or water moves and to check the north route prior to facing Misty if you didn't have enough level. It also recommended to get the Body Slam tm in the SS Anne and teach it to a powerful attacking pokemon, and mentioning Raichu as a good candidate, or to save it for Snorlax, as another good candidate for the tm.. IIRC, it missed telling the players to catch a nidoran if your starter was Charmander, so you could use Double Kick against Brock, though. And they didn't know what Focus Energy did, or was suposed to do, because they didn't mention it was bugged, and all they said was that it could take down a pokemon instantly (a bit like a OHKO move) if used constantly. Of course, it never worked like that, as it was suposed to raise the crit rate and it didn't even do that, so eventually my friends and I just ignored that bit of information from the guide. edit: Also, as an spaniard, I'm contractually enforced to groan at that Gyaratres joke. Just saying.
Saludos de México, tío
Nidoran doesn't learn Double Kick until the 40s in Red/Blue. It only learns it early in Yellow. Just saying.
@@robertlupa8273 My bad, it has been more than 20 years since I played and I remembered that it learned it, but I had to have mixed it with Yellow, then, if I remember nidoran being useful against Brock.

I often look things up online if I get stuck, but I do still like strategy guides too! I got the Collector's Edition ones for Sun and Moon and Sword and Shield, which are nice, hardcover books that also come with extra goodies (the Sun & Moon one came with a file of extra concept art, while the Sword & Shield one came with a hefty bookmark and some skins for your Switch and Joy-cons which I haven't actually used yet). Even the paperback ones are cool though. I found my old Gold & Silver one not long ago, and was very happy as I'd just started playing Gold on Virtual Console. Strategy guides are good for other games too. I still have my one for Tales of Symphonia for GameCube (helpful for all the many sidequests) and had one for Rune Factory on DS (you very much need one for that game to know what are the best crops to plant each season and when to upgrade your tools...it also had a guide on how to woo each of the girls your character could potentially marry, which is useful since some are harder than others). In other words, they may not be selling as well, but they're still helpful! EDIT: 34:35 Him naming the Onix "Rocky" is funny cause there's actually an Onix nicknamed that in the Gen 2 games that you can get in Violet City if you trade this guy a Bellsprout. @@XerneX127 Obviously
Not sure if anyone else realizes, but the reason that the guide says to bring Fire and Rock types to Koga is because his Venomoth is weak to those due to it's secondary Bug typing. Pretty sure they just made a mistake and said it was super effective against the ENTIRE type, rather than just Venomoth.
We all know he made a mistake.

Lordb8er?
Just going to point out that I always bought the magikarp before mt moon. Then I would switch train it until it got tackle then train it until it was a gyarados. Then with a good mix of moves on my Gyarados I would sweep the rest of the gyms with Charmeleon and Gyarados until I got to the safari zone and picked up a Dratini. Then go to cinnabar and get Aerodactyl. Then you guessed it... Destroy Lance with his own team... So satisfying as a 10 year old 😂😂😂
I always buy the Magikarp too. I stick it at the front of my party all through Mt. Moon and Cerulean Cape. I have to heal my other Pokemon slightly more often but it usually gets me a Gyarados before I even fight Misty. In gen 1 it also means I already have a Magikarp and therefore have no use for the Old Rod so I skip getting it to save a precious item storage slot.
26:17 Honestly i cannot forgive him for having the chance to call Exeggcute "A sad yolk" and not taking it.
This was a freaking emotional rollercoaster and I didn't expected that
As a kid, I never lost a battle, but not because I reset. I had way too much free time and patience and grinded every time. Charmander to Charizard before I ever fought Brock in my Red version. Had a Pidgeot in Yellow that I had to level 70 by Surge and swept him easily... I could never do that nowadays. That would be brutal
25:00 nope, you can totally do it in the opposite order as intended, I got stuck before and it was due to this very thing. Went to SilphCo, beat my rival and everyone else, then had to face him again at lower levels in the rocket hideout.
