Been a while but I designed my next worldbox world with a past of devastation and regret: Long ago upon The Great Atoll lived a man named Hattusa, a man descended from the gods themselves and destined to become one at death, but before that ever happens he decides to enjoy his life as a mortal, ruling the largest of many warring kingdoms. However with his kingdom's enormous size he gave up the warriors life, all until the day of reconning came. One night he awoke to his kingdom being destroyed, his beloved wife and children dismembered and strewn across their bedrooms, and on that day his mind snapped. The heavens poured down upon The Earth in a fierce storm, meteors and lightning crushing thousands, Hattusa's cries of anguish echoing throughout as The Great Atoll split into countless islands, the land his kingdom once ruled plunged into the sea. Now Hattusa is a demon of The Earth, unable to move on, following behind legions of soldiers as the heavens are left permanently weeping from his presence upon an Earth he's grown to hate, an Earth which took everything and everyone he loved. And now we cut back to the present day, 4000 years since this calamity, the heavens have continued this rain for longer than anyone can remember, The Great Atoll is but a memory and Hattusa has become nothing more than a folk tale, a story of grief and regret retold so much that the details of what truly happened have been lost in the eyes of the people.
Yet even after all this time he is still remembered, for when young children who have yet to experience true anguish look upon marching legions, they see a black robed figure weeping rainwater following behind them.
In the modern day, The Islands making up what was once The Great Atoll have coalesced into several unified states which rarely go to war due to the environmental effect it has (Remember that the constant downpour is caused by the anguish of a violent demigod), most of the population have similar cultures due to the absolute mass extinction which happened 4000 years ago in which a world with over 13000 humans lost all but a few hundred.
The sheer time difference between The Downpour and The Modern Day is as ancient to them as The Minoan Civilization is to us.
Currently the largest civilization in this ruined world is The Sisuian Empire which rules most of the southern islands, this kingdom is ruled by a High Almiaan (A sort of travelling military leader with family ties to the leaders of each island) who in turn has power over The Almiaana (The lesser Almiaan who rule over their own islands). This structure is usually pretty stable as killing a family member (Without proved justification) is seen as one of the worst taboos and is punishable by crucifixion (The kind done on a stake).
