    • @studentofsweetscience knock out rate doesnt really mean anything. I cant figure out why but after he won the title he had 24 wins afterwards that were not considered title defences? I will assume he changed divisions but either way people knew who he was and that carries the same studying of hungry fighters. I also think having better quality tape easily accessible changed the fighting game so its hard to really compare.

  • Your videos truly give these great fighters the dignity and respect they deserve in a highlight reel. From glimpses into their lives outside the ring, to their falls and get-back-ups. Watching some of these actually makes me get choked up a bit. Boxing is my favorite sport, and boxers are my favorite athletes. Favorite just isn't the right word. It's not like a favorite candy, a favorite car. Boxers have always been the underdogs, even if they were champions. Boxing will show you the patterns of immigration in this country. And it is a sport that has given birth to some of the most inspirational people in history. That's what your videos show. Now, for a comment about this video in particular. Unless your a real boxing nerd, you wouldn't have known who Gene Tunney was before you watched this. I'll admit, I didn't. But, after watching this video, you can see a lot of where Muhammad Ali got his technique- not his style necessarily. Tunney came from that old school style of boxing- the image you get of Popeye with his fists up. And there are traits in his style that you can see in the way Muhammad Ali ran around the ring, kept his hands down, and his chin up. Anyway, that's all I have. Sorry for the rant.

  • Harry Greb the only man to defeat Gene Tunney.. we need a video of the Windmill. Arguably the greatest fighter considering his record.

  • Gene Tunney was a thinking man's boxer. Which explains why Jack Dempsey was a lot more popular, even after getting beat twice by Tunney. The masses will never appreciate intellect because its less tangible than pure force. Similar to how Andre Ward will never get full credit for beating Kovalev twice, Tunney never got full credit for taking down Dempsey with the long count controversy. Boxing fans never change.

    • Fun fact. Bruce Lee studied Gene Tunney in his evolution which became Jeet Kun Do. Bruce loved Tunney's thoughtful, philosophical approach to combat.

    • SIR Lord Henry mortimer damn right. They both were. Dempsey stayed aggressive and fought on the inside. To counter, Tunney became probably the first pure outboxer.

  • There are several of your videos that I truly think should be archived by the National Library of Congress for being culturally, historically, and/or aesthetically significant. This is one of them, along with your video on Jersey Joe Walcott. The Old Timers can keep boxers like Tunney alive for a generation or two, but after the Old Timers pass on these boxers need someone to resuscitate them. You've essentially revived Gene Tunney and made him accessible to an entire generation of boxing fans, Reznick. Thank you.

  • I am Gene Tunney's 3rd cousin (my Mother is his 2nd cousin) and my nana's was his 1st Cousin, her father Joseph Lydon, was Mary Lydon's brother. Mary Lydon was Gene Tunney's mother from Kiltimagh, Co Mayo. So it would appear I have a few unknown relatives in this thread who I will contact in due course ! And of course I think Gene was my first boxing legend before Ali !

    • Tunney definitely on par with Ali for being boxing savvy and smart, like Ali a master at tactics. Tunney like Ali was a boxer not a fighter whereas Dempsey as you can see in the video clips was a fighter not a boxer.

  • This guy was an absolute All time Great with a Capital G one of my favorite old school (True school) Boxers to watch but terribly underrated in my opinion as a heavyweight champion he had only one loss which he later avenged to the great Harry Greb which was that light heavyweight IMO was much better than Dempsey who was much beloved..
