Glad to see my great great uncle at work thanks for the videos.
He was a legend. Thank you for watching.
He’s my great great great great uncle
Then I’m related to u because he’s my great great uncle too?!
Are we all related to him wtf
im black, and im the great grandson. wtf bro?!?! @@numoneboozecruiser8226
Gene Tunney. One of the most underappreciated athletes/sportsman of the 20th century.
The most underrated boxer of all time. He really did create the modern style of boxing. Not to mention, he was 65-1 and a champ in two different weight divisions.
Tunney definitely brought scientific boxing to the forefront of the heavyweight division, but credit for that also goes to Joe Gans, Benny Leonard, and James J. Corbett.
79-1 actuallt
*88-1
@@NicanTlacaWarrior1 jack Dempsey must have been doing golf at the time
Was just reexamining this video as I get back to my boxing roots and I observed at how many modern techniques and tactics he used. Truly a legend ahead of his game.
Only had one loss to Harry Greb?!?!?! Then beats Greb 3x!!!! Talk about some sweet science, he was a thinking man's boxer.
hazmat1000 he had a Draw with greb , lost one and won one fight that many (including himself if i remember) belive greb actually won but the last one gene left no doubt that he had won
hazmat1000 Yeah his record was quite impressive Jack Dempsey got really close to knocking him out tho.
more impressive than marcianos record
@studentofsweetscience knock out rate doesnt really mean anything. I cant figure out why but after he won the title he had 24 wins afterwards that were not considered title defences? I will assume he changed divisions but either way people knew who he was and that carries the same studying of hungry fighters. I also think having better quality tape easily accessible changed the fighting game so its hard to really compare.
@@bullmeatt I have the same opinion. Would be extremely interesting their fight with Marciano
It's amazing how handsome he was for a boxer... and he took some beatings against Dempey and especially against Harry Greb.. the guy looks like an actor
He actually tried his hand at one movie unfortunately there is no footage of it
Harry only beat this guy one time out of their 5 fights
He looks like a Neanderthal
Kascio GG you look like a fat basement dweller you can’t talk for shit 😂
@@gheudbbn9134 No not really, Kascio sort of looks like the Gregor Clegane aka the mountain from Game of thrones
Wanna be an outfighter? Start learning from this guy. His combination of ring IQ and technique was just amazing
It's been a while since I watched this video. It's breathtaking and Gene Tunney truly was a breathtaking fighter. One of the best boxing tributes I've ever seen.
Very underrated fighter. Definitely an all time great
the man can move. I like his subtle feints. The fight against Jack looked like Ali-Frazier.
Which just goes to show that Dempsey could not have beaten Ali as Tunney and Ali had similar styles. For boxing brains I have Tunney and Ali on par. TUNNEY AND ALI WERE BOXERS WHEREAS DEMPSEY WAS A FIGHTER there is a difference.
I agree, I believe the first million dollar fight.
That Dempsey left hook was killer Gene Tunney was a great modern day boxer
watching how Dempsey fought Tunney is ample proof in my mind that Ali would have beaten Dempsey easily. Tunney is in my opinion second only to Ali for boxing smarts and ring tactics.
Not a boxing expert, but this guy strikes me as one of the more underrated fighters of all time.
You'd be correct in that assumption
Beat Jack Dempsey twice.
All the Old Time fighters are very underratted
@Hassan Syed Jack Johnson fought whites stop rewriting history. It was a choice point black period. I hate when people like you state untruths and bs casually.
record is more impressive than marciano
I've never seen this dude box before.. But damn, his fighting style looks so Modern. Very technical wow
Tunney definitely on par with Ali for being boxing savvy and smart.
Love it Rez! Great work as always, happy holidays.
haNZAgod hey haNZAgod
The GOAT is back.
And the GOAT commenters are back :)
Gene Tunney is criminally underrated and was ahead of his time. He used movement and his jab to tame aggressive boxers like Dempsey rather than trying to fight fire with fire. He had a great knack for choosing the ideal times to close in and attack. Based on style alone he would be favored over just about every heavyweight who came before him
My grandfather used to talk about Gene Tunney, said he was as good as anyone he,d seen this was not long before he passed ages 80. I think Tunney is my favourite boxer
Sounds like you had an awesome grand dad. May he rest in peace!
omg...the footage, the music, the editing, you get it right *every single* time, it's ridiculous!!! You absolutely nailed it again, every time you upload a video, I just know I will witness greatness. Please keep doing what you're doing and god bless you!!!
I find the short cuts and music annoying. 🤔
It's impressive to see Tunney and Dempsey greet each other before the fight and congratulate each other afterwards. Not only did this show true class; it set the stage for an enduring friendship afterwards. I miss those times and I wasn't even alive!
That Tunney - Dempsey fight was a thing of beauty. Tunney is such an underrated heavyweight. Great video Rez!
AWMrocks Tunney was very good, but prime Dempsey was better
Michael Trumph both innovators
Michael Trumph Prime Dempsey trounces Tunney. People forget Dempsey hadn't fought in three years when they first met.
bandit7498 Well, he got a second chance and lost easily again. 20 rounds, Tunney won 19 of them. Tunney is simply better than Dempsey, (Tunney was not in his prime either).
Soviet AI We'll never know what would have happened if the Jack Dempsey that walked in against Willard, fresh with the memory of the hobo camps, had fought Tunney. But Dempsey was boxings biggest star right up until Muhammad Ali.
DAMNIT REZNICK. After every video, I feel like I know the boxer intimately. You're good.
Superb!
The father of outside boxing
I only discovered this video 4 days ago but I’ve watched it like 20 times now. Epic
He was also a self-taught scholar who had to be the only heavyweight champ ever to teach at Yale.
Tunney is like the forgotten man of boxing,...this guy was a great fighter, and never gets anywhere near the credit his talents deserve,....
I have chills after watching this and I've already seen it 50 times
Very underrated Heavyweight Champ who retired having not lost a bout as champion. He has the misfortune of falling between two all time greats in Dempsey and Louis.
Kinda like Larry Holmes.
Very underrated fighter. A pound for pound top ten for me.
tuxtucis Agreed. I still consider him to be in the top 3 ATG at Light Heavyweight if not the greatest.
At light heavy no way number one...
tuxtucis Besides RJJ & Ezzard Charles who was better at LH?
I don't see at all RJJ in a light heavy top three...
tuxtucis How so? He definitely would be in most people's.
Greatest defensive boxer of his era and top 5 greatest defensive boxers of all-time along with Floyd, Whitaker, Toney, Hopkins
BoyDanny93 Hopkins? I put Locche and Pep how one of the greatest defensive fighters.
Yeah. Pep was tops.
Franco Garcia Conor mcgregor is the best boxer 😂😂 HEAD ASS
xero jt The best to not defend his title.
Franco Garcia forreal 😂😂
Your videos truly give these great fighters the dignity and respect they deserve in a highlight reel. From glimpses into their lives outside the ring, to their falls and get-back-ups. Watching some of these actually makes me get choked up a bit. Boxing is my favorite sport, and boxers are my favorite athletes. Favorite just isn't the right word. It's not like a favorite candy, a favorite car. Boxers have always been the underdogs, even if they were champions. Boxing will show you the patterns of immigration in this country. And it is a sport that has given birth to some of the most inspirational people in history. That's what your videos show. Now, for a comment about this video in particular. Unless your a real boxing nerd, you wouldn't have known who Gene Tunney was before you watched this. I'll admit, I didn't. But, after watching this video, you can see a lot of where Muhammad Ali got his technique- not his style necessarily. Tunney came from that old school style of boxing- the image you get of Popeye with his fists up. And there are traits in his style that you can see in the way Muhammad Ali ran around the ring, kept his hands down, and his chin up. Anyway, that's all I have. Sorry for the rant.
Muhammad Ali learned his style of fighting from Sugar Ray Robinson.
the greatest irish fighter of all time
Yet, another fabulous video Reznick. The youngsters today would do very well trying to emulate this HIGHLY underrated champion. Total class both inside and outside the ring. And one of the very few greats who managed to retire on his terms. I continue to be a big fan of both your bodies of work.
reznick is back! you make some of the best videos ive ever seen. thanks for the great work
Great video Rez...as usual! Tunney is often overlooked.....thinking man's fighter...terrific speed....good puncher....quick....smart ...very durable....one of my favorite boxers!!!
80-1 damn, awesome tribute reznick, by far the best Tunney tribute I've ever seen!
65-1-1
naturalselector85 I knew 80-1 sounded a little too good to be true, thx for the correction
Richard V no problem 👍🏼
Richard V Actually that correction is off he had a few more draws.
@@richardv4211 His record was officially noted as 79-1-4 with 1 no contest at the time of his retirement. Record keeping was somewhat spotty at the time so not all his fights have full data beyond win or loss and by what manner. Still, a ridiculous record and he had no losses while fighting in the Heavyweight division.
3:50 Tunney timing Dempsey changing levels for a body jab and immediately seizing the momentum is breathtaking.
Been waiting to see Tunney, thanks for another great upload Rez!
Thanks for the video, REZNICK
just want to say your videos are simply breathtaking! keep up the good work i enjoy watching these!
Bro.. i wish i would have found this channel earlier. Thank you for your channel man. Love the vidoes
Wonderful display of your artistry Mr. REZNICK. Dempsey had Tunney Good YES.. But "a CHAMPION gets up when he CANT." j.d. AWESOME TRIBUTE SIR!! THANK YOU!!
Best Christmas present ever! Thanks Reznick and Happy Holidays! :D
The funny thing is Tunney retired just as he was about to hit his peak he easily had another 3 or 4 dominant years on top left in him
Boxing Supraves I’ve seen you make all over this thing hating on a dead guy like get a life holyyyyy
Tunney on par with Ali for boxing smarts and being a master at tactics. Tunney like Ali was a boxer not a fighter. Maybe Tunney was smarter than Ali after all as he knew when to get out when he was on top.
It's bonkers to think that basicaly until *maybe* (and honest to goodness that's a colossal maybe) - young Joe Louis - that no one touches that guy for at least another 5-6 year in the heavyweight division. He threw in the towel early in his career but he lapped the field. He was so obviously god damned good.
Great video thank you reznick 💪💪💪
Shame he’s always mentioned in Dempsey’s shadow even after beating him twice.
That is strange - I must admit I'd never heard of him until this vid
aaronam0115 long count fight he should been counted out.
@@joqu6971 regardless. He beat him twice. Twice.
Same thing happens with holyfield vs tyson..
@@rodrigocavalcante883 you mean Tyson Douglas
That moment at minute 2.16 in the video absolute class tunney enters the ring and dempsey shakes his hand presumably saying something like best of luck absolutely no ego whatsoever boxing is not like this anymore unfortunately
Love your music selection. Every video increases my music playlist.
Just after discovering this KZhead channel. Its fantastic, keep up the great work!
Underrated. He should be ranked in the all time top ten, or even five.
good to see a new video!
Yeah
Tunney is one of the top 5 greatest lightheavyweights of all-time and was way ahead of his time in regards to using footwork/hand speed as his main weapons. IMO, Tunney is also one of the top 5 most underrated fighters of all-time.
Another great video of Tunney. Not only is it of superb quality. I dont know how the fuck you get these videos in widescreen. The quality is spectacular. Like if you hired an expert retransfer or something. Watching it feels like I'm in the arena watching it. Really good stuff. Should be up there with the ranks of best youtube videos. First time Tunney watcher. Truly impressed and can see why he was immaculate.
Thanks for introducing me to an incredible song, montage is superb
Gene Tunney and Jersey Joe Wilcox without question the two greatest Scientists in boxing. Ali, said Tunney was the best of the ol'school fighter.
I put Tunney on par with Ali for boxing smarts and ring tactics.
@@trinihammer Absolutely it's safe to say that Gene Tunney was the first scientific fighter. The "American style "of boxing (a.k.a) "African American style "quick feet , lateral movement, hit without being hit, taking advantage of your opponents weakness. That all started with Gene Tunney.
unbelievable video as always
YES Great video Rez
Subbed. Your videos are sick! Love it. Keep up the good work...
I love the videos. Keep them coming my friend. Aka BR.
Love it. One of my favourites you've ever done! Carlos Monzon, Arturo Gatti or Jake Lamotta next please

Tunneys footwork was incredible, very underrated fighter That jab right hook combo...my my

Brilliant video. Most underrated fighter in history. Bar none.
Man he was Beautiful too watch a Great Boxer ,and too all his family be proud he was Great!!
After this video I understood, thaT I'm really regret not being born earlier, in 50-th. I think, people then were more natural. Thanks for video. Its amazing. Love it.
So underrated it's insane.
Thank You ...
favorite youtube video of all time!
Look at that movement. The Ali before Ali.
This was as amazing as I have come to expect. Keep up the superlative work. How come I cannot find you on twitter?
THIS IS ART DUDE
I watch so much old boxing and outside of Ali - like just going by the boring dude eye test - I can't even comprehend Tunney. Like.... dude. I'm willing to go as psycho as to say that even young Joe Louis gets picked bad by him. He's so precise, prepared.. but like... also fucking brutal.
thanks for this amzing Christmas present 🎁
Tunney is often overlooked as far as all time greats are concerned but his resume is nothing less than awesome, he doesn't just have Greb and Dempsey in his portfolio, you can count Loughran, Gibbons, Delaney, Levinsky and many Others. Definitely underrated by most .
Very tough fit and disciplined fighter. Had the measure of Dempsey and not many did.
Yes Gene was a very underrated boxer i totally agree with that assessment.
Why would anyone thumbs down a vid like this? Anyway great vid very cool
Great video 👍
Damn I had to pause Netflix as soon as I heard that son lux beat drop...love their music
The way Reznick edits or use to edit was unbelievable
Amazing video!Wish u all the best,be healthy,be lucky & lot of money.Happy new year!!! =))
This is epic.
Harry Greb the only man to defeat Gene Tunney.. we need a video of the Windmill. Arguably the greatest fighter considering his record.
There are unfortunately no known records of film from Greb except a mock sparring. What a shame!
Yeah.Feelsbadman
Only 2 minutes of footage exist of greb Unfortunately
You forgot to say tunney fought greb 5 times and tunney won 3 of the fights greb won 1 and the other was a draw and from what I have read tunney destroyed greb in the last fight left no doubt who was the better boxer
@@ggmm6182 with a 40 lbs weight advantage yes Gene was the better fighter overall
Gene Tunney was a thinking man's boxer. Which explains why Jack Dempsey was a lot more popular, even after getting beat twice by Tunney. The masses will never appreciate intellect because its less tangible than pure force. Similar to how Andre Ward will never get full credit for beating Kovalev twice, Tunney never got full credit for taking down Dempsey with the long count controversy. Boxing fans never change.
mua2 the truth in this comment gets to me.
mua2 Dempsey>>>>>> Tunney. Prime demspey would have murdered Tunney. Jack was master of innovator as well. His creativity is underappreciated as well
Fun fact. Bruce Lee studied Gene Tunney in his evolution which became Jeet Kun Do. Bruce loved Tunney's thoughtful, philosophical approach to combat.
Keevin Tamplin even tunney admitted that he would never had beaten peak dempsey
SIR Lord Henry mortimer damn right. They both were. Dempsey stayed aggressive and fought on the inside. To counter, Tunney became probably the first pure outboxer.
There are several of your videos that I truly think should be archived by the National Library of Congress for being culturally, historically, and/or aesthetically significant. This is one of them, along with your video on Jersey Joe Walcott. The Old Timers can keep boxers like Tunney alive for a generation or two, but after the Old Timers pass on these boxers need someone to resuscitate them. You've essentially revived Gene Tunney and made him accessible to an entire generation of boxing fans, Reznick. Thank you.
So sensational! Omg!
Those were the days!
Thank you Gene 🌹
great video
I am Gene Tunney's 3rd cousin (my Mother is his 2nd cousin) and my nana's was his 1st Cousin, her father Joseph Lydon, was Mary Lydon's brother. Mary Lydon was Gene Tunney's mother from Kiltimagh, Co Mayo. So it would appear I have a few unknown relatives in this thread who I will contact in due course ! And of course I think Gene was my first boxing legend before Ali !
Tunney definitely on par with Ali for being boxing savvy and smart, like Ali a master at tactics. Tunney like Ali was a boxer not a fighter whereas Dempsey as you can see in the video clips was a fighter not a boxer.
Amazing
This guy was an absolute All time Great with a Capital G one of my favorite old school (True school) Boxers to watch but terribly underrated in my opinion as a heavyweight champion he had only one loss which he later avenged to the great Harry Greb which was that light heavyweight IMO was much better than Dempsey who was much beloved..
This guy would have been one of the all time greats in any era. Just imagine him with with modern training.
One of the greatest, no doubt.
Do more of Jack Dempsey
Man he was Ruggedly good looking Man.
Your timing is impeccable. It must have took your hours to choose this track. The way you tell the story is so beautiful. I fucking love simple yet effective editing. Well done sir.
Lutaço!!! Essa do Gene x Dumpsey... veio de um knock down para a vitória por pontos. Eu já havia assistido essa luta em outro vídeo. Grande boxer na história do esporte.
Brilliant
Tunney was one of the smartest boxers to ever set foot in the ring. Champ from 1926 to 1928. Died in 1978 at age 81
