The 2000 UEFA European Football Championship, also known as Euro 2000, was the 11th UEFA European Championship, which is held every four years and organised by UEFA, association football's governing body in Europe.
The finals of Euro 2000 were co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands, between 10 June and 2 July 2000. Spain and Austria also bid to host the event. The final tournament was contested by 16 nations. With the exception of the national teams of the hosts, Belgium and the Netherlands, the finalists had to go through a qualifying round to reach the final stage. France won the tournament, by defeating Italy 2-1 in the final, via a golden goal

  • This tournament was proof that the Euros and World Cup don't need to be played in giant 60,000 seated arenas. All the Euros and World Cups seem to have blurred into one, generic tournament now because of unnecessary requirements made by UEFA and FIFA on stadium design. Look at how much character every venue gave us, even while watching on television.

  • The first Euro I remember was 1988. As a Greek 2004 is my favourite tournament but as a neutral from a goalscoring and high drama point of view I'd have to say the 2000 tournament was the best.

  • The best football tournament in the last 30 years! Why?: It was the last (and greatest) performence of the classical "Number 10": Zidane, Totti, Hagi, Stojkovic, Seedorf, Davids, Zahovic, Rui Costa After that the "creative playmaker" disappered. (I know nowadays teams don´t win anything with these kind of players)

  • In my opinion, this is the best football tournament ever, including the World Cup. The amount of goals, the atmosphere, Netherlands performance against Yugoslavia (6-1) Spain versus Yugoslavia (4-3), Yugoslavia versus Slovenia (3-3), Portugal versus England (3-2), the final and how it ended.

    • it's so hard to make difference between a world cup and a european cup for me euro is always great since the beginning except 2004 was little bit boring but good and for 2016 too not because of portugal wins im really happy for them but the uefa need to organise a better seeding during draw to make it really great. group stage of 2016 euro was so boring and a lot of countries where little bit weak like spain england the knockout stage was quite good for euro 2016 and if you want to talk about atmoshphere world cup 1998 and 2006 had the same atmosphere like euro 2000 even 2018 world cup was so surprising to me i expected a boring one but a lot of matches give us the best

  • 2:28 we cannot believe this was the last victory in a final Euro tournament for Romania (3-2 vs England) the match was held in 2000 .... we are in 2021 now...that was 21 years ago lol woow , i cannot believe that we are so low in football ,looks like this sport is finished here...

    • I think this one was very good. 2004 was suprising. Greece knocked out Portugal. 2008 was supposed to happen. Spain was in debt with the world man.

  • Players nowadays look like children and adolescents. Back then, look at them players( majority in their 20s) looking big, healthy, strong like real men. Thats y players like ibrahimovic,cr7,messi and some others stiill can rule...because the players back then were superior. The generation is changing but there is no real

    • I don't agree. In '98 the french were happy they didn't had to play the Netherlands in the semi's and here they lost from us. Italy beaten us, after penalty's; this will happen never again after playing more than one half with ten men and two missed dutch penalty's, during normal play and three with the shoot out. So we didn't play France in the finals. But I'm dutch of course.

  • 日本のwowowで放送してたユーロ96のハイライトビデオを友人に借りた時は４時間もあって全ゴールシーンが入ってたのに、自分がwowowに加入して観たこのユーロ2000はハイライトの時間も短くゴールシーンも欠けてた物が多かったので、試合全体を録画したテープで捨てられない物があります。なので、この動画は非常に有難いです。 C・ロナウドがまだいないポルトガルでしたが、この大会は良いチームで、当時最強のフランスから先制したのも評価できます。最後のPKは遺恨を残しましたねｗ ドイツは正に冬の時代でした。 応援してたイングランドはまさかの予選敗退、デンマークは世代交代の時期でした。

  • i also have to say one of the best Euro's ever..even Germany was out so fast..we had still many good playing teams in the playoffs... Best team was the Netherlands but ya, sometimes you also need to practice penalties (including penalty shootout the dutch missed 5 !!!)

    • Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia broke up in 1991, but from 1992 to 2006 the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia existed. Formed by the two remaining states Serbia and Montenegro. In 2003 the name Yugoslavia became history because the two states "agreed" under the supervision of the EU on a new name - Serbia and Montenegro. This farce lasted only three years, when Montenegro declared independence after a controversial referendum.
