Grappling icon Masakazu Imanari’s famous leg locks were bad news for anyone that was willing to share the stage with him. Can the Japanese legend lock in his signature Imanari Roll when he takes on Mikey Musumeci in a submission grappling fight on 22 April?

He's immortal now, 100 yrs from now people will still call it Imanari roll, just like Kimura lock
Suloev stretch
Thats the figure 4 Rick flair was the master of it. One leg or 2 legs.
Von Flue Choke?
Ezekiel choke
@@xpridefcxgomix4525 he didn’t even invent it but he was the first to get the sub in recorded mma, so hats off to him for pulling it off. I’m amazed that people still come up with new moves, like the buggy choke that just got pulled off in a professional mma fight. Crazy stuff. That one could change the game for anti wrestler guys. Side control is no longer a safe position to lay down flat in against someone with a good buggy choke. It’s only a matter of time until we see this happen in the ufc to a wrestler in side control against a new school mma/Bjj guy. Mma is crazy.
When it succeeds, it looks cool. When it fails, he looks like an infant wanting to be carried
When it fails he still gets untouched, think about
Omg this is so true
He takes the ultimate defensive position of legs in the air to attack and/or grapple, or just sits and taunts. Pretty unique but pissy strat.
thats why it is dangerous
@@chrisding7419 because this is sport fighting. Not real combat. He would be knocked out or worse with such foolishness in a combat situation.

Clandestine removal is a good thing but.
Sounds like a legit menu in a sushi restaurant
I'm hungry now
There are Inari sushi rolls
I can picture ryan hall ordering one in a pf changs 😂
could have crab leg meat or octopus leg meat
As a person that never eat in japanese restaurant, i will definitely order the imanari shushi rolls 😁
Its like facing that boss fight with that one killer move that you’re constantly waiting to avoid at any cause.
Malenia 😭
Never seen a wrestler be so happy on his back.
Maybe because hes no where near close as a wrestler... rofl
Maybe he a tran
I usually order the Unagi roll but I’m feeling intrepid today. We’ll do two rolls of Imanari
And then you will leave the restaurant in a Wheelchair
Be carefull when they are delivered :)
I love you 😂😂😂
Love this
First time I am seeing fighter standing up distancing from fighter on the ground 😂
U unexpectedly get a stare down w this guy on the street, then boom he got yo legs.
Japanese ankle snapper, a hard fish to avoid
In the ring sure. In real life it would be foolish to do that lol
@@RadicalEdward_115normal people dont know how to defend their legs or grapple at all. Trust me that move would be great if you know what you do.
@@mrshark7109 and normal people usually carry some form of defense. Hope you like getting stabbed like a pin cushion trying that one in the streets
I want to see him fight ryan hall 🤣
That would be interesting.
they'll be both sitting on the floor mat looking at each other the whole match
😂😂 they shoot at the same time…every time lmao
Prime Imanari fucks Ryan up. I think current Imanari fucks Ryan up
They'd look like two cats in heat beckoning the other into their laps. Like they're preparing to scissor from a distance. Or both do the imanari roll to heel hook at the same time and both act like tony ganzales and just sacrifice their knee. They then go on to tear each other apart like rotisserie chickens.
I often like to imagine that in the future if an AI learns MMA it will figure out some style which is superior to conventional strategies; it will look absolutely ridiculous but be very effective for the ruleset, kind of like how AlphaGo and AlphaZero's playstyle is considered "alien" by the top chess and go players. Actually, I imagine the superior alien strategy of MMA would look somewhat like this 😂
Well the truth is the best way to win against a living creature is either kill it or cripple it. So ankles wrists elbows knees shoulders and hips I will expect any ai to break or shatter those locations first and foremost ...and since metal is stronger then flesh I bet it would go one sided pretty fast
@@shadelich8417 If it were that easy you would've seen it in the highest levels of competition. Also I was talking about a fair competition where the AI controls a body with same softness as human. Otherwise it defeats the purpose and you may as well give them a terminator robot and guns.
@@MaxLohMusic I based that on the fact the ai most likely will do something based on effectiveness and efficiency. I mean since it can't feel pain it would know how much force it could extent to do maximum dog with the less effort but that's entirely late game it would be really cool to see the progress of such robots and fighting styles for and against them
@@MaxLohMusic dont even think like that or want that dude
@@shadelich8417 No dude, you can make AI simulate a fighting human. Lmao
I started laughing at 1:48 😂
The last 2 fighters handled it well
I wouldn't say imanari invented it but he did popularize it.
Who invented it? Is it something unrecorded?
When it's a new game and you only know one button
the guy with feet fetish 😂
First half of the video is him tangling up legs and having people scared they'll never walk again, the second half is him lying on his back or throwing his legs at them while the opponent says "NOPE!" 😂
The more times I watch it the more crazy it looks. Meant no disrespect to Imanari, he's obviously a legend.. there's an entire technique name after him. Everyone knew what he was going to do and that's why I was unsure, but it seems even then people could not usually counter his game.
I love how ONE fights always feel so raw
This man is genius, I order these rolls everytime I go out for sushi.
Do you actually see yourself doing this in a bar fight or street fight, I don’t think so 🍺
my exact thoughts. cant use it to protect your family from two hooligans in the street. A "sport" technique that somehow disgust me.
@JRG i feel like he'd regret throwing his back on hardwood let alone concrete
This is something special. What an effective technique. He goes right down and feins a hard fall to coax his opponent into coming down for that finishing blow, right where he wants him. On the ground where he is as a shark in the water, and his opponent will flop like a fish caught in the jaws of destiny. Beautiful and confusing to behold.
Also love how some people won’t even follow up heavy hits in fear of it like at 0:49
Reminds me of football flopping tbh. Throwing away all technique and honor to win a game.
It only works because the rules forbid the other guy from kicking you in the head.
@@Hedgehobbit blame the rule then, Imanari is just a genius who find a way to exploit the system.
I don't think soccer kicks would even solve it. That's just begging to get rolled. It's harder than you think to soccer kick a guy that is purposefully on the ground. He might just take a rib shot to roll you again. Which is hilarious to me. Admittedly, he might just get kicked in the face, but he might also roll you. I'd say like 50 50.
Crazy! He's so good on the ground people are afraid to approach him while he's on his back. 🤪
Fear not the man who has practiced 1000 kicks fear the man who has practiced 1 kick 1000 times.
Interesting sport strategy. You cannot possibly use this in street combat. It's ridiculous to think one would splay himself/herself on the ground in this way to take out an opponent. I love the ONE combat sports network!! Great fighters. Great coverage. Great organization. Keep up the good work!!
Idk I think u could use this
Normal people dont know how defend their legs. Trust me that works if you know how to do that
If it works on experienced fighters, it will work on ordinary people. His opponents can kick or punch him but the moment he gets a hold of them, they are unable to retaliate.
Mike Musemeci absolutely dominated Imanari, he completely shut down his leg attacks and made it look so easy.
Yeah imanari at 48 years old 🤣
@@marianoortega6725 Yep. You don't see many people compete at his age anymore.
no butter with that roll
Never seen such an entertaining fighter that gets applauded when he wants to take it to the ground... but damn what a showman! and damn effective
Legs are free real estate. -Imanari Sensei.
Depends on the rules. That’s why he can get away with it
Bruce Lee: take what is useful, discard what is not, this is mixed martial arts. imanari into his 57th self ragdoll in the first round: this is MMA peak performance
The imanari roll is a good reason to bring back pride rules.
speaking of rules, is it legal to step on someone's face in ONE? i remember Bas Rutten showing himself getting caught in an arm bar, and he basically put his body weight on his partner's face. but i dunno if foot is allowed?
@@cheesypuffs1342 so long as it's not intended for choking, I think its legal. Its a defence mechanism.
@@rehan-ci1tk well yeah. he showed that someone trying to pull off an arm bar or any submission from that position would have a hard time if the victim put their knee or foot on their face. but due to respect or maybe it's against the rules, I don't see any of the fighters doing that in ONE. even when they had ample opportunity to do so.
That guy in the first clip literally tried to kick Imanari on the ground and got rolled, I don't think soccer kicks are going to work nearly as well as everyone thinks they will. Usually soccer kicks are good for downed (as in knock downed) opponents. A guy like imanari who intentionally went to the ground? You're getting rolled. It's a trap.
After All the hard work and practice Getting in the ring with Spider-Man What a unique fighter
men that is crazy when a dedicated martial artist use any style its entertaining.
about damn time i get to see him fight again
its so unpractical, so inpredictable, so unsafe that it somehow works im wheezing, boi i love combat
That first clip is just like a video game parry, that waits for an opponent to hit and reverses the hit.
He's that one kid spamming that OP move the whole game
🤣🤣🤣 this guy is a legend 💯👊
I used to think it was Tony Ferguson who invented it. Imanari-san is a legend then.
Me too
@@ijoijosip.4998 It is actually an old Catch Wrestling move that was once used by Billy Joyce (Bob Robinson) in the 1960's in the UK. It's called a Diving Leg Grapevine.
Nothing is as fun as watching the guy get out of the Iminori roll
he looks like an unlockable character after defeating him
Now this fighter reminds me of Toad from X-men while doing jujitsu submissions on his opponents.
His skills are a genius way to win
this man is new level
This guy is funny and deadly at the same time lol
He's always been like the anti-Shinya Aoki. If Aoki is the man of a thousand flying subs, Imanari is the man of one extremely grounded one.
The things you can try, when your opponent is not allowed to kick you in the face when you're rolling around on the floor.
😂 that’s awesome move! I need to stay till end to see how it turned out.
Imagine ordering this at a sushi restaurant trying to be funny and this guy comes walking out of the kitchen, twisting the crap out of your ankles 😂 "Enjoy 🔄👞 your 🔄👞 f*****g 🔄👞 meal 🔄👞funny guy!!"
other fighter : going in when their opponent down to the ground. this man as your opponent : everyone runaway
The pure panic in the first guy like a cat that got trapped
At 0:02 I deadass thought the ref shouted “uh ma gawd” lmao
Shang Tsung: “Your soul is mine.” Imanari: “Your legs are mine.”
He is the Ryan Hall but in One Fc.
When you order the Imanari roll and suddenly you are taken down to the ground begging for mercy
For a strategy, It looks effective. In this case, He used it so much that he probably masters every takedown even if he fails the first part of his trick
Most entertaining ground fighter of all time
Prime gracie vs imanari would be legendary 🔥
I can't imagine this guy getting into a street fights
I would like to see him and Hall fight.
Honestly, this should be illegal in the ring. This thing is effective given other rules such as no crushing head or neck, etc. Basically, it exploits a loophole. But, in a real world fight his head will get crushed trying this like a watermelon 🍉
That’s what I was thinking like what is preventing these guys from just hammer fisting his head but that makes sense.
When he's approaching his enemy while sitting he reminds me of yoshimitsu 😂
it's like fighting Dr Bosconovitch back in Tekken 3 PS1 🤣🤣🤣
Greatest of all time.
That lock looks so intense that I can feel my leg pop out of their socket. Very effective in barehand close combat. Probably lethal for the practitioner if the perpetrator got knife in self defense.
The terror on these guys faces when he goes to the ground. 😂
Imagine thinking you were in a fist fight and all of a sudden your foot are being twisted until your ankle starts to fracture and your knee ligaments all tear
Character in the game Always using his special move
How good is Michael Schiavello? Top of the food chain in combat sports commentary.
I love Imanari, but I can't help but think of his knockout loss to Joachim Hansen whenever he rolls from the outside for a leglock.
Thats a classic knee
Bruce Lee once said "A person who practice one kick a thousand times is more dangerous than a person who knows 1000 diff.ways to kick."
He's like that one weird character in fighting game that people hate 😆
When you've unlocked your ultimate skill and proceeds on spaming it
When you know just one combination in Mortal Kombat.
Bro the fact the he can roll on the ground and get a tight grip on somebody leg is crazy.
Imanari is like Yoshimitsu so you shouldn't let this guy sit in front of you lmao
If you done tangled kevin belingon face! It means your success in your training!!
Every time I watch him jump in and apply that leg lock it reminds me of a spider jumping on its prey!
Imanari roll is like using Snorlax in the Pokemon game

Good Granby at the end... he's fun.

That's me using down B on street fighter turbo using Ryu.😊
