    • James Rockford why ? Look at Picasso for exemple, he started by mastering the technique and made it totally perfect and then he developed his own style The change is not so drastic here but it seems Hahn's style is changing, though her technique is still perfect

  • Hilary Hahn's greatest talent is the ability to give every note and detail of a piece its due. She never overlooks anything for the sake of passion or drama. And, yet, she never wants for that drama either, because as she plays a piece so straight the piece's own drama shines that much brighter.

    • The Frankfurt radio symphony orchestra is one of the finest I have ever heard. The musicians are totally focused on what they are doing, and how to improve what they are doing every day. This is a rare attitude even amongst the leading orchestras but inevitable if you want to stay at the top. So good luck to your father that he has this tremendous opportunity. And under Andrés Orozco-Estrada, the orchestra is climbing new heights with every project. So much love and passion for the best of all music!

And she continued playing till she couldn't play to the highest level, when she was 96. Now when I hear the violin, it's liking hearing my mother in the room, singing to me through the violin music she so masterfully played. It brings me joy, and tears to my eyes, and an a heavy heart knowing I shall never see her again.

  • I couldn’t sleep, thinking about this piece. It’s weird, I was so relieved that I could leave the violin behind when I entered college. It was such a painful aspect of my life for so long, yet I’m only realizing how rewarding it was after I’ve put it down for good. Thinking about all the time I spent trying to perfect this piece and hating myself over it hurts but also makes me smile. Music was really all I had. And it’s still so beautiful, enough to keep me up. Now I’m here listening to it in full for the first time in years. It’s 2 am.

Of course they are gonna become cocky if all they hear from 12 yo+ "wow you are so good and talented" - doesnt matter if they play pop or classic, the surroundings influence the human. And if a young violinist is always told "you are the best there is!" he will act like it and become a cocky btch.

  • To some, perfection is a flaw, or something false. But this is real. How is it possible to produce such a beautiful, musical, shimmering sound without fuss and without thrashing around? Well look at her hands. Especially her left hand. A simple, unflustered, perfect position on nearly every note. Everything is balanced, inch perfect, with amazingly efficient movements. No drama, no scratching, no over-playing, no ugly sounds. Just pure unadulterated direct musicality delivered with disarming simplicity that hides years and years of fantastic training and musical intelligence. Just watching and listening to her is worth a hundred lessons.

    • Pew TheBIind I wasn't making a new claim. I was just agreeing with and adding to your comment that facial expressions don't count. I did this to affirm your claim and to further your cause (i.e., educating the ignorant). As you may know, critiquing top musicians' physical movements (and their looks) is a big subgenre in the online classical music community. I'm more interested in hearing than seeing, so I wouldn't care if Ms. Hahn were dressed in tin foil and garbage bags and hanging upside down from a trapeze, as long as she were still able to produce the same audio output.

  • I love the way she pulls you into the performance. This isn't just about listening and watching, somehow she allows me to 'feel' what she is playing. A wonderful performer, totally enganging and absolutely mesmerising. And, of course, supported by a first class orchestra and conductor! 💜

      @0boecase362@0boecase3625 жыл бұрын
    • @Newsharp True, yes, Maxim looks a bit tense but I don't think Ray is better than Maxim. Smh. In the music world, I think you can't call anybody "better" than so and so. Also, we musicians always, almost, view everything in a biased manner when looking at music. In my human, biased opinion, that version of Maxim's Sibelious touches me so much. Maybe I am the biased one ;).For another example, I absolutely love hearing Ray's Mendolssohn Violin concerto and Sumina's too, but someone may critic it and say that it was too blunt and such. Also, Maxim was "young" at that time and has probably grown so much in experience and in knowledge. If you have seen the Menhuen competition master classes, A boy plays the Carmen Fantasies and actually, Vengerov tells the prodigy to relax. It's just my opinion and im not a violinist (oboist and pianist) so yea ;-)

  • I love Hillary Hahn! There is something very special in her playing. I played 4th horn in that concerto in 1959. Carolla Glen was the soloist. I have loved that concerto ever sense and Hahn makes it sing as never before.

  • What is this? Since Heifetz this is the single most beautiful rendering of this piece. She is playing very much in the style of Heifetz: glittering ice on top of a very hot volcano. Flawless technique combined with blazing passion. Made me cry... such beauty...

  • I like the way she moves. There is passion in it. Her face may be stony with focus. There's passion there though. The darting eyes, the glances at the other musos, the millisecond smile when she nails a difficult spot ... yes, passion ... lots of it. I see a wild Romanian gypsy when she plays Bach's Gigue.

    • For Hilary, there are no difficult spots in the Bruch. Those smiles are communication with the conductor.
