WTF DOES “OG KPOP STAN" EVEN MEAN?!⬇️
Supposedly "original gangster”, can be seen as “old generation", personally viewed as “old-school”.🤓 I’ve been into Korean music since 1998 when I was 15, and using “kpop stan” is more catchy (super cringe or not) than “person who’s listened to Korean music since 1998”, amirite or AMIRITE.😂

XTRA 411-
I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since. The genre, along with artists like Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Britney Spears, etc. then motivated me into becoming a hip-hop/pop dancer, which was a very active lifestyle for me literally throughout my whole 20s. (XTRA DANCE 411- I danced for, trained, and performed with 4 different dance teams. My first and main dance team who started my "dance life" was with Marvelous Motion (who later became IaMmE, America's Best Dance Crew Season 6 Champions). A lot of my dance training came from Di "Moon" Zhang, Brandon "747" Harrell, Emilio Dosal, SOREAL, and from attending many dance classes in Houston and L.A. (from amazing local talent to widely-known talents such as Parris Goebel, Keone Madrid, Kyle Hanagami, Lando Wilkins, Mister Wiggles, Rino Nakasone)
Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music and dance around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis, seizures, and a heart murmur. I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with Kpop or dance. Luckily, I'm in remission now. That doesn't mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups if I don't take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as "normally" as possible. I am also not capable of being an active dancer like I used to be due to my chronic illnesses, but I’m still a dancer in my mind, heart, and soul.
ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear- me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" does NOT mean that anyone who's listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛 Sooo I am currently and actively keeping a weather eye on the KPOP horizon and also using what I’ve learned from my dance years to give credit where it’s due!
💜

  • SUPER CONFIRMATION OF A LOST-IN-TRANSLATION ISSUE HERE: Since I'm getting attacked by my own people claiming that they know my own thoughts and emotions when I try to explain that my two cents were misunderstood, I'm going to pin this here because it's f*cking annoying. I probably shouldn't have used the word "petty" considering how many chose to feel offended and not wanting to hear me out when I try to explain my intentions that they didn't catch in my words. I am NOT, I repeat NOT NOT NOT, calling my OWN people petty here, ok? I stated the CA thing and about how people are trying to cancel certain idols. I am all down for civil conversation and being part of the solution versus deepening the problem. I am NOT down for cancel culture actions/intentions, having others trying to tell me that they know MY intentions and MY thoughts and feelings, and others not giving chances to hear me out when I try to apologize and explain my words. However, I CAN see how my words can be completely misunderstood by those who don't speak American English as their main and fluent language, so I apologize for the misunderstanding and I hope that I have made myself clear to the ones who misunderstood my intention. And if those who misunderstood (rightfully so) STILL chooses to view me the way they WANT to view me even after my apologies and my explanation, then you'll be blocked for not doing your part with engaging in civil conversation and that's your problem and not mine. I usually stay pretty chill on hate comments or those who continue to attack after I try to explain and give them chances, but when it comes to my own people attacking me and trying to gaslight me, that hits a different nerve. When I was young, I had my own people making fun of me when I was "too dark skinned and fat" and told me to lighten my skin while also encouraging me to get a straight perm because my naturally wavy and thick hair is "ugly" while also telling me to drink Diet Coke instead if I want to get a boyfriend. Then when I naturally got lighter due to having to avoid the sun for my lupus, I'm told that I'm not Cambodian enough. It's really f*cking annoying.

    • Everyone please protest to YG Entertainment. The treatment of LISA is always very terrible. But this time unprecedented. Before and after solo debut,LISA promotion is only twice. The reason is that LISA is from Thailand. YG hides LISA music account and do thing that don’t succeed. That’s incredible.

Now Lisa's solo song is close to Blackpink's colour also being hated because it's bland, boring and reptitives. Soon, Jisoo's solo would be hated because it's not as what they expected. Overall, whenever Blackpink makes a comeback, you will saw a lot of 'opinion card' but more like a hating comments. Haters will never be satisfied with what Blackpink give. @RK-tn2fx@RK-tn2fx2 жыл бұрын
    • Absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's a cultural treasure in SE Asia. Lisa is from SE Asia and she's from and was born in the very place where the castle is located. The only people who are complaining fall into basically one of two categories: (1) people with a political agenda who want to use Lisa to get attention for their agenda, or (2) fans of other groups or idols who see Lisa as a "rival" who must be defeated and pretend to be offended by something in her M/V. My guess is people in the second group are the vast majority of the negative commenters...and they are just repeating, cutting and pasting the comments of the very few people who fall into category (1).

  • LMAO. Everyone else always has something to say. If y'all didn’t even watch Lisa’s countdown live on VLIVE before her album and MV release then y’all don’t know that she explained why ‘LALISA’ has that kind of choreo (super light and easy to follow) because ‘MONEY’ her b-side is more of a hard hitting and hip hop one. If y’all don’t even have a background in dance, then zip it. Regarding the music, every artist or even group who will release a song or an album has a SAY in what beat or music they are going for. Lisa specifically said that Teddy made her listen to both songs. Lisa specifically wanted Lalisa and Money to be her debut songs. So like what I said before, if y’all don’t have any background in music or even producing then just keep quiet. One other thing, YG is YG. Her debut still has that YG and BLACKPINK flair to it. I have always been a YG stan eversince 2NE1BANG & SE7EN days. So don’t complain and say it sounds generic and blame Teddy for doing the same type of music. IT IS A YG THING. And that is the YG signature. If y’all can’t understand it then I'm sorry for you. And Lisa including something from her background (which is Thai) is not CA. She wanted to show off who she really is. From what culture she is from. She wanted to shout it out to the whole world that she is THAI and that she is so proud of her heritage and her culture. Sorry that this comment is too long. I have always stayed quiet whenever a BLACKPINK member has been under attack for doing what they love. It has to stop. If you dont like the girls, then dont listen to them. It's that simple!

  • Appreciated your comments and have really enjoyed your reactions. About the "controversies", I should point out that in my experience a huge percentage of the negativity usually comes from immature segments of certain "rival" fandoms. There may (or may not) be some commenters who genuinely feel offended by something or other. But to the extent they exist at all, they're usually just a very small number (and themselves are using Lisa's popularity to get attention for their own agenda). But the majority of the negativity comes from the hyper-competitive, immature fans of other groups or idols who see Lisa as a rival and threat. They absolutely look for any angle of attack they can find and bandwagon it and repeat it everywhere, even when they actually have no real knowledge or genuine position on the subject matter. I predicted that someone would try to create a CA controversy about Lisa using Thai cultural/SE Asia cultural references in her video (even though she's Thai and SE Asian herself)...because "CA" is a favorite tactic that they use to attack Lisa in everything. In the past, I've tried to dialog with some of the haters posing as art/social critics and have quickly found that most of them don't know anything about any of the issues they pretended to be concerned about. You ask a few questions and you find that all they are doing is repeating, cutting and pasting anti-Lisa arguments that they have found...and, in scratching the surface, you often find that they are just obsessed fans of a certain group or idol who see Lisa as a "rival" who must be defeated somehow. They were really straining their tiny brains to attack Lisa for CA on this. I think you are much more representative of a genuine SE Asian reaction and opinion on the matter.

Fact: she was able to have free reign on creating her own vision for her solo. She is promoting also with Thai-based shows.. she also has tons of fan signs and other obligations we do not even know about that relates to music. If YG only cared about money - they would have no let her spend a dime; they would be pushing her to overwork herself... how can someone only care about money but be accused of not having promotions? make it make sense Jerry. BP is their biggest name currently and BP is by far one of the most popular and loved idols in the industry. REspect Lisa and her family and her choices. If Lisa felt that she was treated like crap - she would have left Korea; but instead she thinks of Korea as her 2nd home. Her parents would have pulled her out of that company and country if they felt Lisa was unhappy. Look at her smile in her behind the scenes and her vlives.. she loves it~ She loves her BP girls and family. If she ends up talking to her girls and they end up not re-signing down the line.. thats up to them. As a her fan, stop trying to demand things. Respect her choices and her feelings.

Also, we have now officially gotten to the point that "cultural appropriation" needs to be retired as a phrase because it is more of a pop-anthropology/social justice word than a word that can point out the misuse or overuse of a minority culture's traditions for monetary gains. The phrase was created originally to showcase a systemic or majority culture using a minority culture tradition for personal gain, but I see it used now whenever *ANY* culture uses another culture's traditions, this leads to the misunderstanding of the word and the actual issues that go along with it. • To someone who said “it’s not the best song”, Tina may not have said it’s the ‘best song’ but who are you to decide which one is good and not? We all have different taste.

    @jayesoine6981@jayesoine69812 жыл бұрын
    • For the most part it's just immature (somewhat passive aggressive) fans of other groups or idols who feel a need to "defeat" Lisa because they see her as a threat or "rival". They don't want her to be super successful. They want their favorite group or idol to always be more successful than her. Not all, but a lot of the negative comments are not from people who are genuine and sincere. (And if you find out who their faves are, it's easy to find that the criticisms they use could just as easily, if not more easily, be applied to their faves' songs.) They're mostly just band-wagoners and cut-and-paste people looking for a way to downplay Lisa's successful debut and try to persuade people that they shouldn't like her song. Like you say, who are they to decide what's good or even what's best? It's pop music. People experience it subjectively. The people pretending that they're some kind of serious music critics just so they can trash Lisa's solo debut are a joke.

  • You enlightened me today. I knew about the Teddy comments and the song comments, but that's just all "Noise" to me. I didn't even know that there was back and forth going on between Thai and Cambodian supporters of Lisa. OG I thank you for your 2 cents, it needed to be said. In regards to the LaLisa's video/song, I loved it the first time I heard & watched it and every time there after. I will never forget that feeling of watching her perform her solo for the first time and fulfilling her dream, especially knowing the sacrifices she made to get here and the hell she has been through. She delivered a great solo debut and we should all be proud of her. The live performances of the song have been absolutely amazing. She just gets better and better. Her winks are becoming lethal. YG planned this debut down to a Science. They are looking at the long game not the short game. They are looking beyond Korea to World Wide domination. Lisa's solo has brought in millions of new fans. Blackpink now has the largest number of followers on YT, more than anyone. I mean she has expanded the YG and the BP brand, as well as her own during this debut. Lisa is MIDAS. In regards to the naysayers and haters, I refuse to let people, especially ones with obvious ulterior motives, tell me what I should and shouldn't like and how I am supposed to feel. I know what I feel and I know what I like.

  • Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You are bright and brave. Nowadays, few do it for fear of losing followers or being harassed by a troop of haters. In this case the Lisa-haters. The truth is that these people do not care if it is CA or not. They are just a bunch of ignorant people who make a stir to harm the artist. On the other hand, it is also good to see a TRUE PREFESSIONAL reacting to Lisa. Someone who really knows what is doing. This has much more value than fans screaming like crazy or haters who only devalue her work. Thank you for always being so kind to our queen. She is a wonderful person and a REAL ARTIST. She has innate talent and is a hard worker like few others. She always gives it her all on stage. Lisa deserves at least RESPECT. I really appreciate your intelligence and honesty. THANK YOU!

  • Wow, not sure how I caught your other Lisa reactions but missed this one, Thina. Seems to me that anyone with an art soul could feel your original reaction to the Lalisa M/V, but your insights into what your parents went through, and Thailand's part in that ... that brings it all together. Those of us non-Asian Americans who grew up in the US version of the shadow of our war in Vietnam have only that tangential relationship to that part of Southeast Asia: my dad or uncle or step-dad or whatever were there. Thank you for your honesty and strength, and thank you for simply pointing out that Lisa is a world-class dancer no matter what else. I know little to nothing about dance, but, yeah she sets herself apart somehow, and you are in a much better position than most others to explain that to someone like me. So thanks, again!!

My families’ stories with how they basically lost their country and home at the time, and almost long their lives as well, is so tragic, but they’ve chosen to tell me and my sister about the details since we were young in the hopes of us coming to a realization that we’re lucky for what we have. I understood that more and more as a I grew up and probably the most when I got hit with lupus and seizures. Their stories gave me hope and strength, so I don’t mind sharing if it’ll possibly help others.👍🏼

What i love about Lisa is her charisma, character and swag every time she dances. That's why i am always excited and in awe when i see her dance, It maybe hard or easy choreography. A lot of people knows how to dance but not all have the charisma and swag that Lisa has. When she looks at the camera while dancing it really seems like she's really looking at you. 😁😍 And i can't handle her sometimes. 😜

The point of this song is to gain her name recognition and she wants people to dance with her and have fun with the choreo. To haters, your opinion is just your preference. Lots of people like the song, choreo, mv, style that's why lalisa is the most watch MV in first 24 hours for soloist on youtube in the history. Period.
