2x4s ONLY! Queen Size Bed Frame ONE DAY BUILD!

This build was a fun one. I used 7 2x4's, a 4x8 sheet of OSB, and a cheap pine 1x10 off cut from home depot to build a queen sized bed for my girlfriends mother. I experimented with new finishes, and designs. I made mistakes along the way but learned a ton. Enjoy!

  • Great job man. LEARNING is what we all need to do and sharing our mistakes is a great way for other people to learn even more . Applause

  • Sorry to be the negative Ned/safety guy in the comments, but please be careful: at 3:18 - best to avoid miter-type cuts where the piece is between the blade and the fence. There's a pretty good chance for table saw kickback. A miter gauge or even a table saw sled works best. At 0:50, is iffy, but somewhat more borderline. And possibly consider slats vs solid OSB under the bed so that the mattress can breathe.

  • You need much more ventilation through the plywood, without ventilation you could get mold and mildew.

  • Wonderful 👍 what is frame wood’s measurements?

    @ihsanal4510@ihsanal45102 жыл бұрын
    • The stretchers are 81 inches long, and the foot/head board are 64 inches long. If I could have done it again I would have made them both 1/2 inches shorter. Make sure you orient the frame so the foot and head board cover up the ends of the stretchers.

      @Sydsworkshop@Sydsworkshop2 жыл бұрын
  • The break at the pocket screws on the middle stretcher might have also been mitigated if you did the pockets from the bottom going upward. May have still broken, but there would have been more wood in the area taking the most stress, that being the top of that board.

  • I did something very similar but the odor from the osb is becoming unbearable, did you have this issue?

    @NAGIUXS@NAGIUXS2 жыл бұрын
    • I have not had this issue! I presume it was a bad batch of wood. Maybe the glue that holds the strands together wasn't fully cured. Either that or the wood wasn't dry and the moisture caused some rot. I'd replace the osb. That's super strange. Let me know how it goes!

  • Is it very important to stain the wood even if you make a floating platform style frame?

    @MOZEChannel@MOZEChannel3 жыл бұрын
    • Nope! It's completely hidden by the mattress. If you're worried about splinters you could sand it a bit bit it's definately not necessary

  • Your table saw is unsafe, you need a riving knife behind the blade and also a guard can help.

    • For real, i was gonna build my own bed using plywood for under the mattress, it wasn't even a 4x8 sheet and it was over 30 dollars! I thought maybe I'll go have another look at Amazon. I might just make some leg extenders for my current hollywood frame, i just want storage space Our maybe I'll buy a chainsaw and drive around looking for felled trees

    • I understand the concern! The issue we have had in the passed are cats. They enjoy tearing up the bottom of the mattress and climbing inside. This is my "solution" as of now, not sure how I'd get around that.

      @Sydsworkshop@Sydsworkshop2 жыл бұрын
  • Errm ... What part about "2x4s ONLY!" don't you understand? Using OSB will result in a sagging bed quite quickly and any kids jumping on it will break it. This is a complete waste of $50. Don't do it.

    • @@annesummers09 We purchased an expensive solid oak framed queen bed that used two reinforced 3/4" OSB panels to support the mattress. Both broke within a few years. We are both lightweight and no one jumped on the bed. I replaced the OSB with 1/2" marine plywood panels using the same reinforcing that have now lasted over 20 years.

  • WARNING: building a frame like this with OSB at the bottom of the bed frame is VERY LIKELY to cause MOLD. I built my bed platform like this and luckily I caught it very early. Do the research. The mattress needs airflow.

    @israelaguilar9642@israelaguilar96422 жыл бұрын
    • I can not confirm or deny this fact. However, it was done because she owns cats who would claw at the bottom of the mattress. Do you have an idea on what could be put under the mattress to stop them?

      @Sydsworkshop@Sydsworkshop2 жыл бұрын
    • I slept on a mattress directly on the floor. Ten years in the South Texas heat & humidity (no A/C). No mold. YMMV
