This build was a fun one. I used 7 2x4's, a 4x8 sheet of OSB, and a cheap pine 1x10 off cut from home depot to build a queen sized bed for my girlfriends mother. I experimented with new finishes, and designs. I made mistakes along the way but learned a ton. Enjoy!
Great job man. LEARNING is what we all need to do and sharing our mistakes is a great way for other people to learn even more . Applause
Sorry to be the negative Ned/safety guy in the comments, but please be careful: at 3:18 - best to avoid miter-type cuts where the piece is between the blade and the fence. There's a pretty good chance for table saw kickback. A miter gauge or even a table saw sled works best. At 0:50, is iffy, but somewhat more borderline. And possibly consider slats vs solid OSB under the bed so that the mattress can breathe.
Thank you for spreading the word. Seriously people should know. I almost lost a thumb from that kick back. It's sudden
I love this. Simple and functional. Thanks.
Thanks for keeping it simple and comments
I loved this video, especially the very end. LOL
muito bem feita e reforçada parabéns
Nice job 👍
Awesome video
Nice simple design
Thank you! Cheers!
Good raw down to earth work, basic stuff but really useful to people like me who enjoy these projects but are not carpenters..I have two new bed frames to make early in the new year and am looking forward to them, as a retiree I love to keep busy , well done young man I love your honesty with mistakes, we all make em 🙄😂
Good hearted guy
You need much more ventilation through the plywood, without ventilation you could get mold and mildew.
Very nice! Hope this got you some brownie points with your GF's Mom!
Wish I had family to do this for meeee😭😭 also the doggiee ahhaha
My goal is to inspire ! Hopefully one day maybe you can do it yourself!
Is the fermeldahide toxic smell a concern to your health off the plywood?
That dog though. So silly. Also who’s that helper with the glue up ;)
I love this easy built bed I Thinkin do it to mom bed you have to buy your lumber first before lowe ‘s or Home Depot cut it down for youIt was open campsites be perfect add the legs to the bed new three legs in the middle of the bed hope to port the body weight
What would be the measurements for a double bed?
About that osb i dunno about the building code But it certainly is used on most residential builds theses days
Wonderful 👍 what is frame wood’s measurements?
The stretchers are 81 inches long, and the foot/head board are 64 inches long. If I could have done it again I would have made them both 1/2 inches shorter. Make sure you orient the frame so the foot and head board cover up the ends of the stretchers.
The break at the pocket screws on the middle stretcher might have also been mitigated if you did the pockets from the bottom going upward. May have still broken, but there would have been more wood in the area taking the most stress, that being the top of that board.
I'm sure Darlene Is so happy
She does! Still using it and loving it. Thanks!
How long is the 2x4s?
I did something very similar but the odor from the osb is becoming unbearable, did you have this issue?
I have not had this issue! I presume it was a bad batch of wood. Maybe the glue that holds the strands together wasn't fully cured. Either that or the wood wasn't dry and the moisture caused some rot. I'd replace the osb. That's super strange. Let me know how it goes!
Is it very important to stain the wood even if you make a floating platform style frame?
Stain is for astatic purposes only.
Hola podrías darme las medidas de la madera por favor
The pocket screws failed because they aren't meant as structural fixtures.
So you dont have to paint the osb ?
Nope! It's completely hidden by the mattress. If you're worried about splinters you could sand it a bit bit it's definately not necessary
Your table saw is unsafe, you need a riving knife behind the blade and also a guard can help.
Measurements please Sir i need to build on for my wife
How much was it all together ?
So I bought the wood before the crazy lumber price increase. But after tax, excluding stain, it was about $60
It was designed using only 7 2x4s, one sheet of OSB and 6 board feet of rough pine
Nine Inch Nails!
One day build is two day build
It would have been a 1 day but he said his landlords, who must be neighbors too, were having a party so he didn't want to be rude. I'm sure without that breaking up the day it would have been one day project
Your finger got close at 0:55
Remember when a sheet of osb wasn't 25 bucks lol.
33 where I am! 3/8 spruce ply was cheaper lol.
@@Sydsworkshop 5/8 is about 25 dollars where I am. I work for property management and work at home depot part time material where im from is getting pretty expensive 5.25$ for 2x4x8.
For real, i was gonna build my own bed using plywood for under the mattress, it wasn't even a 4x8 sheet and it was over 30 dollars! I thought maybe I'll go have another look at Amazon. I might just make some leg extenders for my current hollywood frame, i just want storage space Our maybe I'll buy a chainsaw and drive around looking for felled trees
Sounds good if you have the equipment you got. 😕
Mattresses and box springs need to breathe. Otherwise, thanks.
I understand the concern! The issue we have had in the passed are cats. They enjoy tearing up the bottom of the mattress and climbing inside. This is my "solution" as of now, not sure how I'd get around that.
Errm ... What part about "2x4s ONLY!" don't you understand? Using OSB will result in a sagging bed quite quickly and any kids jumping on it will break it. This is a complete waste of $50. Don't do it.
Nonsense.
@@annesummers09 We purchased an expensive solid oak framed queen bed that used two reinforced 3/4" OSB panels to support the mattress. Both broke within a few years. We are both lightweight and no one jumped on the bed. I replaced the OSB with 1/2" marine plywood panels using the same reinforcing that have now lasted over 20 years.
Ooof 3:20 made me incredibly anxious. Please never ever do that again, the chances of kickback are crazy high and you could get really hurt. Always use the miter gauge and NO fence for these type of cuts
Wow your gonna cut your fingers off really soon... Scary how close your hand is around nd that blade
Hey! Glad you pointed that out. I just purchased a new (to me) table saw and am no longer working with a contractors saw on the ground
A push stick or stopping the saw before changing your cuts will be your best friend. They can't attach fingers like their suppose to be 😄. Congrats on the new to u saw
WARNING: building a frame like this with OSB at the bottom of the bed frame is VERY LIKELY to cause MOLD. I built my bed platform like this and luckily I caught it very early. Do the research. The mattress needs airflow.
I can not confirm or deny this fact. However, it was done because she owns cats who would claw at the bottom of the mattress. Do you have an idea on what could be put under the mattress to stop them?
I slept on a mattress directly on the floor. Ten years in the South Texas heat & humidity (no A/C). No mold. YMMV
You should be experimenting with builds for yourself and put your best effort into your GF's mothers bed frame.
