This is my cousins dog, despite all the comments he’s actually a really great dog. You have to understand the fact that they aren’t going to show you all the good, Beckman is showing the stuff he’s correcting, your judging a dog and it’s owner on a 11 minute clip. She took him because he had been attacked and she wanted to make sure he wouldn’t attack any dog after what happened to him, and after this visit, he now plays with all 4 of my small dogs as well as my bully XL thank you Beckman 🎉 he’s going so good with all my dogs as well as one other dog that lives next door to me. As for the neutering, I doubt she will neuter him now, since it took 6 play dates while my cousin had him on leash correcting him to stop humping my female dog and he doesn’t do it anymore.

i think the ridgeback is his cryptonite. He is a lot more careful with her. she has the size, and she has enough attitude to not put up with his behavior. that 2nd retriever would have bully puppies very quickly

He is actually a very keen, happy, little guy, who gets on with people and most dogs and does some dominant moves but does not follow up with aggression. I bet the owner was very happy to see that chonker having fun and just being the dog he is! Go Prince and the Goldens!

Very interesting video/session. One thing I noticed is that he didn’t play bow once. Prince was giving him bows and some of the other dogs as well, but not this guy. Don’t know if that’s a bully thing, a dominant dog thing, if he hasn’t learned that behavior yet, or if he had other motivations during the session. As always, good work by you and Prince and the other dogs and trainers.

The question I have is with his stocky build is it comfortable to play bow. I've noticed that my neighbors stocky boys don't either. I end up watching their tales, they swing their heads and do half hops when they want to play.

I also noticed that there wasn't a lot of taking turns on the dominant side/submissive side. Which means he's going to always be a dog that may not start it but he will finish it. He's not against the fight at all.

We had a pitt bull come up our driveway. We live in the country so dogs get dumped all of the time. He was pure bred no doubt. We have two dogs in our 2 acres of fencing around our house. We have 5 acres of pasture. The dog came up the driveway where my dogs were reacting to him by barking their heads off. I walked up to the gate and this beautiful dog wagged his tail so much that his whole body was moving. He was so sweet. We had to call animal control due to the fact we had our two dogs to protect from disease or bad behavior . The animal control guy gets out of his truck with his leash pull and I told him you won't need that. This dog walked right up to him wagging his tail...I hope he got adopted he was the sweetest thing.

I love watch your socialization videos but I think the best part and most outstanding part of this video is the handlers. I work at a facility now that just discourages on leash greetings. Eh better be safe than sorry. My first facility taught handling skills with greetings because we knew our clients are gonna do it so we might as well show them how to do it with safety in mind. But most owners are NOT going to move like these handlers. That’s experience, awareness and quick response. The female handler was the most active and best at getting out of potential sticky situations. Prince’s leash got caught on the tree and she swiftly got it untangled. Like this stuff right here is what people need! Joel wasn’t as active about getting out of the way but was hawk eye ready with the more dangerous dog ready to stop any dangerous behavior ON TIME. The leash was a little tight at times for the bully but that’s also on the dog. Man what a great video. I kind of just want to show this in my group class to show off the handlers. I try to teach clients this type of handler awareness just running through drills in class.

I adopted my American Bully (Kobe) at two years old, and he is just like this one. He's super sweet overall, but he is a lot and doesn't care about corrections. The ecollar has been the best tool for him. He responds very well to the stimulation and vibration. It took me almost a year to get good communication with him without the collar. And just like the bully in the video Kobe was also attacked multiple times by another dog in his original home. And now after getting to know Kobe I totally get why, Kobe has no boundaries and doesn't understand social cues. I really appreciated this video, it made me feel better about the struggles I've gone through with Kobe.

An e collar - sigh. Every time I hear someone praising their pit as the “sweetest pitty pit ever” the pits always have giant red flags - they are “reactive,” “just started” growling, refuse basic obedience and voice commands, they must wear muzzles and e collars when in the world, can never ever be around a person to whom they haven’t been introduced over at least a week, they are drugged out of their minds because they are “anxious” and/or reactive” - vs the perfect Doberman we see here. Yet breed matters. Prince is a perfect dog who comes from superb genetics (and of course has a fantastic master). This shows the issue full stop. Why people who want to claim certain breeds are just misunderstood and “reactive” etc when they can’t even be basic dogs is beyond me.

Yip. American Bullies don't really have boundaries and their play can be quite physical. Sweet natures. My boy is very accepting of corrections and never needed to wear anything other than a flat collar or half choke for training and when he is working.

Very true about dogs being able to learn to play differently with different dogs. My Sisters old Golden Retriever plays realy rough with oue terrier mix but with our Chihuahua mix they both turn into softies that mostly lay on their backs getting chewed on by the little one :D

I dont know why i just love them 🤷♀️ i actually went to a dog show as a kid w/my folks, there were tons of breeds, & the Rhodies just jumped out at me, not literally :) :P i was just mesmerized by them… i think its bc they were more calm/aloof than any other breed, and those gorgeous golden eyes. I'm a dedicated student of your training methods and watch/listen regularly. This particular video is very relevant to one of my dogs (bully breed, 7 year old spayed female who was attacked multiple times while under 2 years old). She exhibits all the same behaviors as you've shown here: generally speaking, with proper coaching (thanks to your training methods) I've gotten her to a point where she can socialize with other dogs (though it is always a much slower and more controlled introduction than it is with my other better socialized dogs who don't have a history of trauma). However, what still makes me nervous when she's around other family/friends dogs is the triggers. I haven't quite figured out what triggers her, but she has bitten other dogs seemingly randomly (to my untrained eye) during an otherwise okay interaction and it frustrates me to no end not knowing (a) what triggers her and (b) how to avoid it or train it out of her. I'm trying to learn more about observing dog body language and behavior so I can identify what triggers her during some interactions that cause her to bite. Your material is beyond helpful! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise.

I'm sure this owner learned a lot about her dog, and should somewhat be relieved. Absolutely beautiful dog! Love his coat pattern, and color. I'm of the mind that if you're not going to breed, spay/neuter your dog, at the appropriate age. Another great video on body language. Can't get enough of these types of videos. I disagree. Do some research. There is a reason intelligent dog experts don’t neuter their dogs (including Beckman, Prince is not castrated) destroying your dogs endocrine system has huge health implications and for what? To go to a dog park? There is a reason why most dog trainers advise against dog parks. Why would you want to engage in risky activity that has zero upside to the dog/human relationship? In other words even if everything goes well you are still damaging your relationship with your dog! Is it so strong you can afford to make it worse? No, if it were you wouldn’t need a dog trainer!!!

@@fallbrkgrl the problem is not one of “unwanted litters” you have to have 2 irresponsible dog owners letting their dogs escape on the same day. Females only go into heat twice a year and are only viable a couple of days each time. On top of that females do not accept every male that comes along. So in a world where dogs are not allowed to roam free it’s like hitting the lottery. The shelters are full due to a problem of demand and a problem of ignorance. Just in my city we have 6 thriving pet stores selling puppy mill dogs to people who will quickly give up on them as soon as they’re inconvenient.

Chip got tired of the dog park faster than we did. Then we found all the videos about how bad they were and our iffy experiences (no actual attacks but some close calls) weren't exceptions. Now he has a neighbor dog he plays with. He's a full APBT from a shelter. She's a half/half lab/APBT so she's got about 20 pounds on him (and more energy than him too.) It's a mutually beneficial relationship.

The short version is other people aren't as committed to being good dog owners as I am and even if they are, there's no real control at a dog park. Fights can and will happen. Not every time but even one time was enough for us. It's not like Chip got hurt. He's a pit bull. But it engenders bad habits. He got SUPER leash reactive for a long time and once we stopped the dog parks, it's more or less gone away. The neighbor dog has helped too. I'm guessing here, but I'd say that ducking down low in front could be interpreted as "I'm going to go for your throat", if the context for the dogs is aggressive or hostile rather than friendly interaction.

I'm totally traumatized by dog fights and every time a noise comes about that sounds like a fight a huge loud hey comes barreling out of my mouth no matter what I do to keep it from happening! I would love to know how to get rid of this because I have way too many powerful dogs and that expectation is the most dangerous thing going in my house! I don't know what to do about it but I'm following just to figure out if you get any good suggestions because it's a bad thing to have! It makes life constantly super stressful!

I have a 3 year old female American Bully who I took in 4 months ago and she behaves the same way…head and tail high, body stiff, she runs up on other dogs, paw over back, head over other dog’s neck, licking too much. Other dogs don’t like it and I can’t trust my ability to read her because all that feels aggressive, but she’s just been interested in playing. She meets other dogs (on leash) but I never feel quite comfortable. Thanks for the upload ❤

Common body language for them. They are often desperate to play and it does get physical. An angry or aggressive bully have a very different behaviour. It is quick, you can feel the intent coming, the eyes are on their target and super focused and hard. . Their posture is similar to play but there is definitely a strong purpose behind it. Hope that helps you a little.

In a similar situation with a 1y3m 100+lb unneutered rhoadesian. Plays great, and when other dogs tell him no, he doesnt get mad or anything. If at all he will walk away. But he does excecivly lick and is starting to mount. After the new year, i think its time.

Awesome video, like always. I'm really struggling with "rough play." I have 2 female pitbulls, 1 is 7yrs old and the other is almost 1yr old. The youngest seems to be playing to rough, but the 7yr old doesn't seem to mind it. I'm just worried that when the young one meets other dogs, she'll play to rough with them.

Do you have control of your dog? If so, if the dog misbehaves, correct the behavior. Rough play in the pack isn't misbehaving.

Don't let your insecurities about that be anywhere near dog interactions! you have to be very confident because your expectations can completely be the one ingredient that turns the scenario tragic! Trust me on this it is never helpful! Just always make sure that the dogs that y'all are interacting with are trustworthy balanced dogs that have the ability to teach the younger dog and don't ever bring that dog into a scenario that you are not confident.

My dog was exactly like that Bully, mine was an American Bulldog BUlly type, a lot bigger though. It is as if they are mentally challenged, corrections had little to no effect. I found a couple of dogs that put up with him and had similar energy or were a lot quicker than him when they were tired of his behavior, for the rest I basically avoided any dogpark and kept him leashed on walks. I just learned to live with it for 12 years until he passed away, at least he was able to play with some other dog friends. He was very gentle with small dogs, he hardly showed any interest in them, always found that interesting.

I've met too many bullys that are that way in dog parks, my mellow, gentle girl has had to literally snarl and snap (not play) at bullies who refuse to get the point, and still didn't after being snarled at, and play way too rough for a dog park environment.

Beckman, the best people trainer ever I've seen in a long while! Thank you for your great work. Unfortunately here in Peru people in general don't raise their dogs. Yesterday I got bitten by (a big) one just by walking on the sidewalk, first time in my life a dog ever bit me and yeah, that hurts (mostly bruised, no bleeding). The owners even didn't apologize (I'm Dutch, not Peruvian, it's a racist thing here). Was I angry at the dog? Of course, but I was more angry at the owners allowing the dog to bite people for nothing. One incident won't make me afraid or to hate dogs of course. If I entered their home without consent I'd understand more, then it's a territorial issue. Next time I'll cross the street to avoid any confrontation, I don't want to hurt animals. But if a dog comes after me from across the street (which happens also), what is the best way to react, without anyone getting hurt? I know that throwing a rock at them works, but it's not nice (I do have the right to protect myself though). They always attack from behind, so should I just turn my front to them, and walk backwards? Should I look it in the eyes while doing that, or absolutely not as it might be provokative? If that's the way, I'll do it, the owners won't change the dog's behaviour. So the question in short is: How can I defend myself from physically attacking dogs, without hurting the dog or to get hurt myself? A barking dog is ok, that doesn't hurt.

Don't give an inch to the dog. Dogs usually only attack when you back off or show weakness. Stand your ground and be calm but assertive! keep your hands and arms close to the body so its hard for the dog to bite you, lean back your torso and use your knees if the dog is lunging at you. If its a cane corso or pit bull ... then just run and climb up whatever you can find :D

This owner, who is tiny, is never ever going to be able to control this dog - also why in the world do they insist on not getting the males neutered? Shelters are overflowing everywhere across the country with unwanted pits and pit puppies who are constantly being “rehomed” etc. They are also overflowing with females that have been bred multiple times by byb and when they get saggy teats and can no longer be bred they are dumped at shelters. Sigh.

@@wes3527 sorry to hear that. I’m no expert but I think that may be genetic in some breeds. Also may be diet related I’m hoping a proper diet helps avoid those issues with mine. Dr Karen Becker on KZhead has some alternative information on these problems

Just looks like he hasn't been socialised properly! He was loving playing with the other dogs! Poor guy's probably getting attacked by other dogs because he hasn't got his ears so is giving mixed signals as he wants to play rough! Thanks for the content Joel. What I don’t understand is why you are against the prong collar? It distributes pressure evenly and is safe to use for corrections but you will not hesitate to give a harsh flat collar correction which has proven to lead to canine upper cervical subluxations. Flat collars are not meant for corrections- that’s where the prong collar comes in. Please read the research.

Ear cropping is not a painless procedure. Although puppies do not feel anything during the procedure, as they're under anesthetic, there is some discomfort when they recover from anesthesia and while ear incisions are healing.

I have a siberian husky that i got as a trained service dog. He has no husky craziness and very obedient. My mistake was to take him to dog parks (got him at 2 now 7yrs neutered) and he was jumped by intact male shepherds and is now not liking these type dogs and will size them up to see who will flinch first. he is very alpha

we get around other dog meetups for him to play and he is great but if i see dogs i do not know I put him onleash. the people we are around let their dogs run all over a college we go to-out of their sight even but my dog will not do it. he studies me all day and with lots of pain he stays close to me and if strange dogs 10:45 run at us whether just to meet or aggressive he will NOT let them come close. the people around us think he is a problem because he will not be okie dokie with any strange unneutered make coming into our perimeter. Why do people think all dogs should just be let free to meet each other and play? no, not every dog is like that. we are walking more away then around this group bad dog manners cannot corrupt his training. it ticks me off these people think my dog is a problem (just found this out) because he isn’t just a floppy dog. he is a service dog and protector. im disabled.

What people are not seeing is hrs trying to mate with the golden dog because he smells her pheromones. He is acting up more because it's making his wild side, that we humans try to control, activate. It's hard to make them obedient but you can with stern training

I have a weird situation with my dog. On a leash he is mostly chill and listens quite well. Sometimes barks at other dogs when they walk past but thats not a big deal. Off the leash though he is like a very annoying dog when he sees another dog. He doesnt bite them but its this overly playfulness. He wont let the other dog go, he follows them until I put him on the leash again, he wont back off the dog.. he is extremely obsessed with them and I dont know what to do and how to correct it because treats wont work and he is not on the leash anymore and when I walk towards him, he jumps away..

I have a husky (85%) greyhound (15) mix and he is very athletic and has a play move I haven’t seen before that has prohibited him from being allowed in group play, dog parks, ect. He is a rescue so didn’t have socialization as a young dog before I got him. He runs towards dogs leaps and spins in the air body slamming them. It’s really dangerous for smaller or older dogs. I have a second husky mix he plays with and I let him run with and she has learned to dive and lie flat at just the right moment so he misses her and goes over the top. Do I correct him when he begins the run towards the dog? It’s hard for me to decide timing bc he also just runs around as a husky. He doesn’t fight, bite,or act aggressive and if the dog ends up on the ground when he hits it he doesn’t pin it or get on top, he just keeps running in the loop.

This is my cousins dog, despite all the comments he’s actually a really great dog. You have to understand the fact that they aren’t going to show you all the good, Beckman is showing the stuff he’s correcting, your judging a dog and it’s owner on a 11 minute clip. She took him because he had been attacked and she wanted to make sure he wouldn’t attack any dog after what happened to him, and after this visit, he now plays with all 4 of my small dogs as well as my bully XL thank you Beckman 🎉 he’s going so good with all my dogs as well as one other dog that lives next door to me. As for the neutering, I doubt she will neuter him now, since it took 6 play dates while my cousin had him on leash correcting him to stop humping my female dog and he doesn’t do it anymore.
And I’m not saying he won’t do it to another female dog, but we now see and know how to deal with it.
He is still a Pitbull tho and anything can happen with that breed

i think the ridgeback is his cryptonite. He is a lot more careful with her. she has the size, and she has enough attitude to not put up with his behavior. that 2nd retriever would have bully puppies very quickly

Maesha is totally a star that doesn't get recognized often but she can take the rough play she's got enough confidence for him to use in an example. She doesn't get the glory very often but Maesha is definitely a cool chick and deserves her mention.
We can't forget Connery because he's totally a reliable friend in these situations although not used in this particular video.
She is so beautiful! The way she just kind of walks off as if she is doing the pup dog version of rolling her eyes. It I am biased. My mutt girl looks like a 45 pound version of her - giraffe legs and all. 😂

He is actually a very keen, happy, little guy, who gets on with people and most dogs and does some dominant moves but does not follow up with aggression. I bet the owner was very happy to see that chonker having fun and just being the dog he is! Go Prince and the Goldens!
Yep. Just a boy dog being a boy dog. You could see that he wasn't extremely dominant perfectly when they were all off leash in the pen. If he was, he would have been on Prince constantly.

Very interesting video/session. One thing I noticed is that he didn’t play bow once. Prince was giving him bows and some of the other dogs as well, but not this guy. Don’t know if that’s a bully thing, a dominant dog thing, if he hasn’t learned that behavior yet, or if he had other motivations during the session. As always, good work by you and Prince and the other dogs and trainers.
Astute observation.
The question I have is with his stocky build is it comfortable to play bow. I've noticed that my neighbors stocky boys don't either. I end up watching their tales, they swing their heads and do half hops when they want to play.
I also noticed that there wasn't a lot of taking turns on the dominant side/submissive side. Which means he's going to always be a dog that may not start it but he will finish it. He's not against the fight at all.
We had a pitt bull come up our driveway. We live in the country so dogs get dumped all of the time. He was pure bred no doubt. We have two dogs in our 2 acres of fencing around our house. We have 5 acres of pasture. The dog came up the driveway where my dogs were reacting to him by barking their heads off. I walked up to the gate and this beautiful dog wagged his tail so much that his whole body was moving. He was so sweet. We had to call animal control due to the fact we had our two dogs to protect from disease or bad behavior . The animal control guy gets out of his truck with his leash pull and I told him you won't need that. This dog walked right up to him wagging his tail...I hope he got adopted he was the sweetest thing.

I love ❤️ all your comments. You should be on Joel’s Podcast! I've also read your defending, no-nonsense comments on a particular “talker’s” review of Joel that says he doesn't dislike Joel, but his headliner picture of his review is him laughing.
He seemed like he wanted to have friends but hadn’t been taught how to properly interact. He needed the right dogs and trainer to help socialize him.
I love watch your socialization videos but I think the best part and most outstanding part of this video is the handlers. I work at a facility now that just discourages on leash greetings. Eh better be safe than sorry. My first facility taught handling skills with greetings because we knew our clients are gonna do it so we might as well show them how to do it with safety in mind. But most owners are NOT going to move like these handlers. That’s experience, awareness and quick response. The female handler was the most active and best at getting out of potential sticky situations. Prince’s leash got caught on the tree and she swiftly got it untangled. Like this stuff right here is what people need! Joel wasn’t as active about getting out of the way but was hawk eye ready with the more dangerous dog ready to stop any dangerous behavior ON TIME. The leash was a little tight at times for the bully but that’s also on the dog. Man what a great video. I kind of just want to show this in my group class to show off the handlers. I try to teach clients this type of handler awareness just running through drills in class.
I adopted my American Bully (Kobe) at two years old, and he is just like this one. He's super sweet overall, but he is a lot and doesn't care about corrections. The ecollar has been the best tool for him. He responds very well to the stimulation and vibration. It took me almost a year to get good communication with him without the collar. And just like the bully in the video Kobe was also attacked multiple times by another dog in his original home. And now after getting to know Kobe I totally get why, Kobe has no boundaries and doesn't understand social cues. I really appreciated this video, it made me feel better about the struggles I've gone through with Kobe.
An e collar - sigh. Every time I hear someone praising their pit as the “sweetest pitty pit ever” the pits always have giant red flags - they are “reactive,” “just started” growling, refuse basic obedience and voice commands, they must wear muzzles and e collars when in the world, can never ever be around a person to whom they haven’t been introduced over at least a week, they are drugged out of their minds because they are “anxious” and/or reactive” - vs the perfect Doberman we see here. Yet breed matters. Prince is a perfect dog who comes from superb genetics (and of course has a fantastic master). This shows the issue full stop. Why people who want to claim certain breeds are just misunderstood and “reactive” etc when they can’t even be basic dogs is beyond me.
Yip. American Bullies don't really have boundaries and their play can be quite physical. Sweet natures. My boy is very accepting of corrections and never needed to wear anything other than a flat collar or half choke for training and when he is working.

Very true about dogs being able to learn to play differently with different dogs. My Sisters old Golden Retriever plays realy rough with oue terrier mix but with our Chihuahua mix they both turn into softies that mostly lay on their backs getting chewed on by the little one :D
My Dobermann used to have two little friends - Russian Toy Terriers, who were the size of her paws. She automatically adjusted her temperament to their size.

Rhodies 😍 i fell in love with them years ago. I dont know why i just love them 🤷♀️ i actually went to a dog show as a kid w/my folks, there were tons of breeds, & the Rhodies just jumped out at me, not literally :) :P i was just mesmerized by them… i think its bc they were more calm/aloof than any other breed, and those gorgeous golden eyes. Its my dream dog 🥺🤷♀️

I'm a dedicated student of your training methods and watch/listen regularly. This particular video is very relevant to one of my dogs (bully breed, 7 year old spayed female who was attacked multiple times while under 2 years old). She exhibits all the same behaviors as you've shown here: generally speaking, with proper coaching (thanks to your training methods) I've gotten her to a point where she can socialize with other dogs (though it is always a much slower and more controlled introduction than it is with my other better socialized dogs who don't have a history of trauma). However, what still makes me nervous when she's around other family/friends dogs is the triggers. I haven't quite figured out what triggers her, but she has bitten other dogs seemingly randomly (to my untrained eye) during an otherwise okay interaction and it frustrates me to no end not knowing (a) what triggers her and (b) how to avoid it or train it out of her. I'm trying to learn more about observing dog body language and behavior so I can identify what triggers her during some interactions that cause her to bite. Your material is beyond helpful! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise.

I believe the behavior here Joel discussed was from being over sexual. Taking away that drive will reduce the neurotic tendencies to overpower the females.
@@MsHarasan you can believe whatever you like but if you listen to respected experienced people they will tell you that in most cases neutering a dog does not improve its behavior and often makes it worse, moreover the health disaster is guaranteed. People if you don’t want the whole dog the way nature (or God) intended then why get one?

There is a reason intelligent dog experts don’t neuter their dogs (including Beckman, Prince is not castrated) destroying your dogs endocrine system has huge health implications and for what? To go to a dog park? There is a reason why most dog trainers advise against dog parks. Why would you want to engage in risky activity that has zero upside to the dog/human relationship? In other words even if everything goes well you are still damaging your relationship with your dog! Is it so strong you can afford to make it worse? No, if it were you wouldn’t need a dog trainer!!!

@@fallbrkgrl the problem is not one of “unwanted litters” you have to have 2 irresponsible dog owners letting their dogs escape on the same day. Females only go into heat twice a year and are only viable a couple of days each time. On top of that females do not accept every male that comes along. So in a world where dogs are not allowed to roam free it’s like hitting the lottery. The shelters are full due to a problem of demand and a problem of ignorance. Just in my city we have 6 thriving pet stores selling puppy mill dogs to people who will quickly give up on them as soon as they’re inconvenient.

Chip got tired of the dog park faster than we did. Then we found all the videos about how bad they were and our iffy experiences (no actual attacks but some close calls) weren't exceptions. Now he has a neighbor dog he plays with. He's a full APBT from a shelter. She's a half/half lab/APBT so she's got about 20 pounds on him (and more energy than him too.) It's a mutually beneficial relationship.

The short version is other people aren't as committed to being good dog owners as I am and even if they are, there's no real control at a dog park. Fights can and will happen. Not every time but even one time was enough for us. It's not like Chip got hurt. He's a pit bull. But it engenders bad habits. He got SUPER leash reactive for a long time and once we stopped the dog parks, it's more or less gone away. The neighbor dog has helped too. I'm guessing here, but I'd say that ducking down low in front could be interpreted as "I'm going to go for your throat", if the context for the dogs is aggressive or hostile rather than friendly interaction.
Some dogs get startled very easily and especially for dogs that have had traumatic experiences with dogs and can be triggered by any sudden quick movements.

I'm totally traumatized by dog fights and every time a noise comes about that sounds like a fight a huge loud hey comes barreling out of my mouth no matter what I do to keep it from happening! I would love to know how to get rid of this because I have way too many powerful dogs and that expectation is the most dangerous thing going in my house! I don't know what to do about it but I'm following just to figure out if you get any good suggestions because it's a bad thing to have! It makes life constantly super stressful!
I thought learning everything I could about dogs would help it and no it does not I've been cramming information into my brain for years now and every time a scuffie happens it just reinforces that terrible trauma. I recently noticed that I'm becoming apprehensive in getting to it and breaking it up quickly like as if I'm scared or something but I'm not. There is never anything on the internet about it either.

I have a 3 year old female American Bully who I took in 4 months ago and she behaves the same way…head and tail high, body stiff, she runs up on other dogs, paw over back, head over other dog’s neck, licking too much. Other dogs don’t like it and I can’t trust my ability to read her because all that feels aggressive, but she’s just been interested in playing. She meets other dogs (on leash) but I never feel quite comfortable. Thanks for the upload ❤
Common body language for them. They are often desperate to play and it does get physical. An angry or aggressive bully have a very different behaviour. It is quick, you can feel the intent coming, the eyes are on their target and super focused and hard. . Their posture is similar to play but there is definitely a strong purpose behind it. Hope that helps you a little.

for me this bully cant go in a dog park or just play without muzzle because he's never really chilled. The type of dog who can play but stay tense and finish to be frustrated and turns the play into a fight..

In a similar situation with a 1y3m 100+lb unneutered rhoadesian. Plays great, and when other dogs tell him no, he doesnt get mad or anything. If at all he will walk away. But he does excecivly lick and is starting to mount. After the new year, i think its time.

Awesome video, like always. I'm really struggling with "rough play." I have 2 female pitbulls, 1 is 7yrs old and the other is almost 1yr old. The youngest seems to be playing to rough, but the 7yr old doesn't seem to mind it. I'm just worried that when the young one meets other dogs, she'll play to rough with them.
Do you have control of your dog? If so, if the dog misbehaves, correct the behavior. Rough play in the pack isn't misbehaving.
Don't let your insecurities about that be anywhere near dog interactions! you have to be very confident because your expectations can completely be the one ingredient that turns the scenario tragic! Trust me on this it is never helpful! Just always make sure that the dogs that y'all are interacting with are trustworthy balanced dogs that have the ability to teach the younger dog and don't ever bring that dog into a scenario that you are not confident.

My dog was exactly like that Bully, mine was an American Bulldog BUlly type, a lot bigger though. It is as if they are mentally challenged, corrections had little to no effect. I found a couple of dogs that put up with him and had similar energy or were a lot quicker than him when they were tired of his behavior, for the rest I basically avoided any dogpark and kept him leashed on walks. I just learned to live with it for 12 years until he passed away, at least he was able to play with some other dog friends. He was very gentle with small dogs, he hardly showed any interest in them, always found that interesting.
I've met too many bullys that are that way in dog parks, my mellow, gentle girl has had to literally snarl and snap (not play) at bullies who refuse to get the point, and still didn't after being snarled at, and play way too rough for a dog park environment.
My dog Lilly now acts submissive towards a new female dog. She loves doing the play bow and she’s very excited/physical like a ballerina!❤️🐶😎🐣🌺🦋🐕🦺🦮
Beckman, the best people trainer ever I've seen in a long while! Thank you for your great work. Unfortunately here in Peru people in general don't raise their dogs. Yesterday I got bitten by (a big) one just by walking on the sidewalk, first time in my life a dog ever bit me and yeah, that hurts (mostly bruised, no bleeding). The owners even didn't apologize (I'm Dutch, not Peruvian, it's a racist thing here). Was I angry at the dog? Of course, but I was more angry at the owners allowing the dog to bite people for nothing. One incident won't make me afraid or to hate dogs of course. If I entered their home without consent I'd understand more, then it's a territorial issue. Next time I'll cross the street to avoid any confrontation, I don't want to hurt animals. But if a dog comes after me from across the street (which happens also), what is the best way to react, without anyone getting hurt? I know that throwing a rock at them works, but it's not nice (I do have the right to protect myself though). They always attack from behind, so should I just turn my front to them, and walk backwards? Should I look it in the eyes while doing that, or absolutely not as it might be provokative? If that's the way, I'll do it, the owners won't change the dog's behaviour. So the question in short is: How can I defend myself from physically attacking dogs, without hurting the dog or to get hurt myself? A barking dog is ok, that doesn't hurt.
Don't give an inch to the dog. Dogs usually only attack when you back off or show weakness. Stand your ground and be calm but assertive! keep your hands and arms close to the body so its hard for the dog to bite you, lean back your torso and use your knees if the dog is lunging at you. If its a cane corso or pit bull ... then just run and climb up whatever you can find :D

This owner, who is tiny, is never ever going to be able to control this dog - also why in the world do they insist on not getting the males neutered? Shelters are overflowing everywhere across the country with unwanted pits and pit puppies who are constantly being “rehomed” etc. They are also overflowing with females that have been bred multiple times by byb and when they get saggy teats and can no longer be bred they are dumped at shelters. Sigh.
There is never any reason (maybe descended testicle excluded) for a responsible dog owner to castrate their dog. Do some research!

@@wes3527 sorry to hear that. I’m no expert but I think that may be genetic in some breeds. Also may be diet related I’m hoping a proper diet helps avoid those issues with mine. Dr Karen Becker on KZhead has some alternative information on these problems

What I don’t understand is why you are against the prong collar? It distributes pressure evenly and is safe to use for corrections but you will not hesitate to give a harsh flat collar correction which has proven to lead to canine upper cervical subluxations. Flat collars are not meant for corrections- that’s where the prong collar comes in. Please read the research.

Ear cropping is not a painless procedure. Although puppies do not feel anything during the procedure, as they're under anesthetic, there is some discomfort when they recover from anesthesia and while ear incisions are healing.
I have a siberian husky that i got as a trained service dog. He has no husky craziness and very obedient. My mistake was to take him to dog parks (got him at 2 now 7yrs neutered) and he was jumped by intact male shepherds and is now not liking these type dogs and will size them up to see who will flinch first. he is very alpha
we get around other dog meetups for him to play and he is great but if i see dogs i do not know I put him onleash. the people we are around let their dogs run all over a college we go to-out of their sight even but my dog will not do it. he studies me all day and with lots of pain he stays close to me and if strange dogs 10:45 run at us whether just to meet or aggressive he will NOT let them come close. the people around us think he is a problem because he will not be okie dokie with any strange unneutered make coming into our perimeter. Why do people think all dogs should just be let free to meet each other and play? no, not every dog is like that. we are walking more away then around this group bad dog manners cannot corrupt his training. it ticks me off these people think my dog is a problem (just found this out) because he isn’t just a floppy dog. he is a service dog and protector. im disabled.

What people are not seeing is hrs trying to mate with the golden dog because he smells her pheromones. He is acting up more because it's making his wild side, that we humans try to control, activate. It's hard to make them obedient but you can with stern training

The second golden was MUCH better for him. I don't like that the first female was held in place and not allowed to move away if she wanted to, which she obviously did.
I have a weird situation with my dog. On a leash he is mostly chill and listens quite well. Sometimes barks at other dogs when they walk past but thats not a big deal. Off the leash though he is like a very annoying dog when he sees another dog. He doesnt bite them but its this overly playfulness. He wont let the other dog go, he follows them until I put him on the leash again, he wont back off the dog.. he is extremely obsessed with them and I dont know what to do and how to correct it because treats wont work and he is not on the leash anymore and when I walk towards him, he jumps away..
I have a husky (85%) greyhound (15) mix and he is very athletic and has a play move I haven’t seen before that has prohibited him from being allowed in group play, dog parks, ect. He is a rescue so didn’t have socialization as a young dog before I got him. He runs towards dogs leaps and spins in the air body slamming them. It’s really dangerous for smaller or older dogs. I have a second husky mix he plays with and I let him run with and she has learned to dive and lie flat at just the right moment so he misses her and goes over the top. Do I correct him when he begins the run towards the dog? It’s hard for me to decide timing bc he also just runs around as a husky. He doesn’t fight, bite,or act aggressive and if the dog ends up on the ground when he hits it he doesn’t pin it or get on top, he just keeps running in the loop.
If you want to go back to the dog park. Pretty sure most other owners wouldn't be thrilled either
