Glad you are up and running. The store looks amazing! Nothing is perfect, so no worries. You've got great ideas for going forward. Yes, keep the shelves stocked. What I do when I have a yard sale is always straightening, refilling, and moving stuff around to fill in the holes (because there isn't any backstock). Thrift stores have a distinct smell, so maybe keep a candle burning (careful to make sure it's out when you close) or something like that. Set yourself apart from the competition. I can't wait to see how the rest of the weekend goes. Best wishes.

CONGRATS! Opened my first shop back in 1994. A sandwich board by the road or signs a bit down the road both ways with just "Thrift Shop" and an arrow on it or something similarly simple will work wonders...attaching balloons to it adds to the attention grabbing aspect. Advertising in a local coffee shop type mini-newspaper will also help. Word of mouth will slowly but surely help in a small community, too. Stock up on balloons! :) Keep using them for awhile until you get established. Careful about inventory being visible that is not for sale, people can get real testy when they don't have the option to buy items they see, even when they are behind the counter clearly marked NFS. A cabinet with doors would do the trick. Have had stores for 30+ years, including a 5000 sqr foot salvage/surplus/thrift shop for part of that time.

Great job guys! Maybe some tips - Advertise on Facebook marketplace and Craigslist (people still use it lol) Also - list some items on offer up and other sites so when they come to pick up they see the store lol

Congratulations on opening the store!! Some ideas for advertising in a small town - Might print some flyers and put them on the bulletin board at your local grocery and laundromat, anywhere else that has a community bulletin board. Put a flyer in the bag with what they bought for a % off next purchase. Ask everyone that comes in to tell their friends. Drag some stuff outside,, especially big colorful kid toys. Word will get around pretty quick.

Make flyers and put them up everywhere where there’s a window. Businesses, laundromat, fast food places, grocery stores, gas stations etc. plus get a facebook page and post on it regularly with pics of what you have in your store and update it daily with specials y’all might be having etc. Plus if you have a local newspaper put an ad in it. And definitely put something out front of the store close to the road so ppl can see it.
Plus if where you live has any buy sell trade pages on Facebook advertise on those pages as well.

Congratulations! We've had a used bookstore in a small town for 9 years. We've tried every possible way to advertise that we can think of and afford, and to this day our best advertising by far is word of mouth. Second is Facebook, and we've had a few newspaper articles. That kind of advertising moves slowly but results in dependable, regular customers. You're fortunate to be on the highway as that visibility will help. We're on downtown main street, not the main highway through town, and we still have people who live in our little town who didn't know there was a bookstore here...LOL!

All the private thrift stores in my area advertise for free on Swap Shop groups on Facebook. They take pics of inventory or the store front & invite the public. I see them get lots of engagement, with the public asking prices or if they have items.
Get with your local Chamber of Commerce and they many time will help promote new business'. Also do a big Grand opening with advertisement in local paper, radio and don't forget facebook. As you said, once people find you, you will have plenty of business.

Great vid...you will find the best type of advertising is "word of mouth"...make sure you tell every customer to tell someone about the store...and don't fall for the "radio trap"...it's hard to measure and cost is unreal...print some flyers and put them on cars at local stores... keep cards in your shirt pocket an don't miss a chance to give them out...at the post office.at your brothers bbq stand..every yard sell you go to..Colton you never meet a stranger...what an opening line.."hey!!! Your heard about that new thrift store in town"..good luck..

Another place to advertise is Craigslist under garage sales. The garage sale finder page too. The treasure map app has been changed it does not have Craigslist in it anymore so go to Craigslist and put it in there. Lots of signs out until people get to know you are open. Facebook is probably is best. Advertising always works. Also tell everybody at church good luck you guys. If I lived in that town I’d come by and visit😄😊😁❤️
