He landed 5 eye pokes but he was actively trying to land them all fight. It's impossible to accidentally double eye poke someone like that. Ufc is the only sport I still watched the last 4 years cause it' was still sometimes clean compared to every other sport, but after last night I'm done with all sports forever.

Herb Dean would've called a timeout before the start of round 2 to specifically warn Weidman about reaching his fingers repeatedly in round 1. 1st poke should've been a point, 2nd poke should've been another (maybe two if he didn't get a thumb from Silva's punch). And the double poke should've been a DQ. Honestly screw Weidman for saying Silva shouldn't fall down from having a finger wedged between his eyeball and orbital bone, plus a follow up.

You do realize that the ufc is not in charge of the refs right? That's why they can ref for any company and not just the ufc.
I’ve been a fan since the mid 90s I’d love to be able to call mma a sport but it most certainly is not. While I’m sure other organizations may be trying to uphold the integrity and doing what they can to keep it legitimate. However the UFC has turned mma into an entertainment business. Sadly we are closer to stupid fake WWE wrestling than we are to a real sport.

All they have to do is implement those gloves that naturally curl the fingers (that they said they were going to introduce several months back but never did). Both Bellator and PFL use them, and both of those organizations see WAY fewer eye pokes than the UFC. I honestly cannot fathom why nothing is being done about this. It's beyond ridiculous.

Meaning that those gloves appear way more minimalistic to the casual viewer than the heavily padded alternative, putting the UFC much closer to bare knuckle than boxing. I know it doesn't make a big difference in the cage, but from a casual viewers perspective, the UFC gloves simply look way cooler, hence why some WWE wrestlers have been wearing them as an accessory to make themselves look more legit

Commissions sanction, regulate and ref. They also control reviews etc. I agree weidman should have been dq'd but the ufc has zero control or power over that. Then nobody gets their win bonus which is messed up because why should the person who got fouled be punished by getting less money? Nah it’s needs to be a DQ loss for the person committing the fouls. And first offense needs to be an immediate point deduction because there’s never a reason to have your fingers out while punching. Groin strikes can be accidental because you can’t control how your opponent moves after you throw your kick so a warning for that is fair. But keeping your fist closed while punching is all on you. Nothing Bruno Silva did forced Weidman to open his hand. If eye pokes are an automatic point deduction the fighters will stop being lazy and train to keep their hands closed.
Eye pokes are developing into the new calf kick. It will be interesting to see how fighters implement this technique.

Fouls are not all the same. 3 eye pokes could end a career. One eye poke can end an eye, just ask Bisping. Remember, the same ref took a point from hurbert burns for a second unintentional knee to the groin... you have to control your weapons. Fouls can change the course of a fight. Weidman has his fingers out stretched the whole fight.

they do that why fighters keep doing them.. There are exception tho... and a lot of it depends on the ref and how obvious it is... Some refs you can get away with anything other refs will take point.. Main thing is refs will rarely end a fight for fouls.. It has happened but very very rare.. Fighters know this and take advantage..

Terrible call by the judges. When deciding whether to call the fight a draw or just deduct a point and judge on rounds fought you have to lean towards the fouled fighter. Taking away his last round to turn the fight around in this manner sets a bad precedent. A fighter that is up 2-0 can just foul his way to a victory.
