The German VFW tank destroyer is a vehicle that I have a special hatred for. When gaijin first added it to War Thunder, it was incredibly powerful. Overpressure has tempered it a bit, but it is still an absolute menace in the right conditions. The long 88mm cannon combined with the 4s reload make it an exceptional TD.

They should allow you to raise and lower the sides in-game with the VFW. The mechanic for this already exists (bulldozer blades) and would make for a neat and actually useful feature

Its totally useless. I have a VFW and its fantastic due to the 4s reload but if you raise the side pannels you are severely limiting the gun traverse, reload nearly doubles and the protection is barely adequate for rifle caliber machineguns while HE and arty will still murder you. VFW with sides down = cold blooded deadeye predator VFW with sides up = a harmless toaster

Its actually better in my opinion it has a 90mm gun that fires solid slugs that just obliterate pretty much anything they touch
It's realy bad. I earned it in the event way back when and it's not very fun. 94mm shells suffer from volumetric, the velocity is suprisingly bad for an AA gun, you dont get a range finder, it fires solid shot and ofcourse you get pressure waved to death. Probably my least favorit event vehicle tbh.

10:12 with the sides lowered down they can act like wings to allow the vfw to glide over some obstacles if starting from a high enough vantage point.

A fun challenge I haven't seen anyone do is actually use the "AA" TD as AA. Like 8cm Flak truck TD for Germany, or literally any Whirblewind / Ostwind

I just steamed through a T44, Tiger 2 and Ferdinand in a Lorraine today in one quick sprint. Was not expecting to be able to play hyper aggressive in a SPG, the speed actually makes it somewhat viable

tbh sometimes you are given time or a margin of error to dodge the falling bomb or some strafing. that can be pretty thrilling to do. however that's like 1% of plane/tanks interactions with the rest just being that "hide yo kids from the blitz or die" game not a lot of people likes.

@@braedenh4687 Sure, you can also use tanks and tank destroyers to destroy planes, but that is not the point I was trying to make. Tunguska is extremely capable in both AA and AT roles. The only better SPAA I can think of in those two roles is ADATS in US tree, as it has APDS rounds (extra 16mm od pen compared to Tunguska) and rockets capable of penetrating up to 900mm of armor. You can argue that other SPAAs using APDS ammo have better pen, but they either don't have access to rockets (Falcon, Chieftain Marksman) or those rockets are IR guided (Gepard 1A2), so that's a good trade-off in my eyes.

Nice video as usual. I don't think it's really the tank itself, stuff like the Nashorn gets absolutely tunneled by CAS as well, so ig it comes down to the CAS player seeing an easy kill. That's one of the reasons I avoid playing paper TDs.

VFW players forgetting how much the thing absorbs, the post. You're probably dead by the time you get HE loaded since the VFW reloads faster than a 75mm Sherman and the 50cal will have issue with the gunner since he is sheltered at an angle by module structure. VFW only has to click once to the anywhere and you have to aim specific shots. It does belong higher up.

The problem with this type of vehicle and spaas generally: You exist to counter planes (or in your case not) you can get killed by any plane in existence. Most people dont see spaas or something like the flaktruck or the vfw as actual threats, they see it as cheap kills. And i dont know how the snail could buff them but idk, lets remove the coellion (yes im still tilted about that) and replace it with another easy to kill spaa. Seriously, make planes harder to spawn, if one team wins then they are just everywhere. I do like the VFW tho and the flakbus aswell. Fast firing funguns that look goofy but kick ass. Generally like them and im happy you played the vfw

Strv 42 both DT and EH are fun at their tiers. The EH has surprisingly good armor and is pretty bouncy at times with a decent gun and mobility. The DT has a fantastic 4 round semi-autoloader and is very mobile. And even the turret front gets bounces occasionally despite being rather thin.
@9:02 has the same energy as multiple teammates in seige or any other FPS peeking the same window they just watched someone get their head blown off from.
I wish unique vehicles like this one would become available again, especially for console players.

Tell me you're a post COVID player without telling me you're a post COVID player. This was the 2019 red I-180/Merkava event where you fixed the plane between micro-transactions that ruined the mechanic premise. It's not a console issue, you just weren't there, lol.
When I got it in WoTB(mobile WoT) I fell in love with it because you can use 88mm in tier V. We call it the toaster because the panels(?) are up and not like what WT has.
You can pull the sides and back up, but it limits gun movement, reload goes significantly up and its just not worth it
it does have them up if you select that modification. However, it increases the reload to 6 seconds, but with them down the reload is only 4 seconds (for essentially a tiger 2 gun lmao)

it's a cas magnet because even a blind tank main ( as you demonstrated) can apparently see it from space in a plane, too easy to find for middling cas that just find enemy targets vs pro cas that will scope the battlefield for priority targets ( like a guy solo wiping half the team).
How about ZIS-30 ? I love that TD, and I'd love to see you playing it, maybe even on higher tiers, as cannon is pretty powerful.

Honestly I think that thing is so rare at that BR that no one knows what it is. I've never seen one in game as far as I can remember and I've played that BR a lot. I think it's just because it's super big and open that it becomes a CAS sponge.

I think the Aircraft target the VFW, not because players hate it, but because it is a large, open vehilce. Easy to see form the air and even a few 7.7's can do damage.

I'd love to see you play the Swedish SAV 20.12.48 A 120mm Cannon with 1.7s Autoloader at 3.7 is insane! It has paper thin armor, but it has great speed and It's quickly become one of my favorite vehicles!

I was just having fun in my VFW a few minutes ago. I am content to find a good spot, switch to the proximity round and wait for a bomber to appear. Does that mean I might go an entire battle with little or no "action?" Yes it does and I am okay with that because of the sheer joy when I do get to knock down a bomber in one shot.
Attempt numero dos: Rooikat 105, it just got uptiered to 9.0 and it still performs well even against 10.0 vehicles, plus the 105 in the name is actually its average speed on snow maps (and sometimes even city maps)
The 88 flak truck is pretty much treated the same. If I see one I will do everything in my power to wipe that thing off the map
you should play the m41a1, it's a pretty fun light tank to play. it doesn't get chemical filler of any kind in its rounds, but the apds it gets is still quite powerful. it's one of my favourite tanks even though i'm not the greatest in light tanks,

When they introduced the VFW I was excited thinking we could raise or lower the sides in game.. I was sadly disappointed when it's purely a in-hanger option. Also the Timed fuse HE for air is utterly useless for shooting down planes because to activate the timer you have to some how range a moving plane and by the time it finishes ranging they are no where near that range anymore.

Either they need to triple spawn points for aircraft or remove them from ground forces altoghether, or just have matches where you can't use CAS and some where you can.
I've seen them up the spawn points on some of the armor piercing ammunition but doesn't really help open tops

the VFW is hated because it benefits from the absurdity of no armor is best armor, it has a lot of crew that are spread out and it typically can respond even when you get a good drop on it because you don't have HE or HEAT loaded in most tanks. With the exceptions of the HEAT slingers like the M51 and PT 76, it's got nothing to be reliably scared of since even when hit it can respond most of the times. Then it's reload is faster than the Challenger I think, or damn near if not, and it's so quick to follow up. It has a great gun and great reload, I don't think it's too imbalanced though since it does get plane killed constantly and is afraid of any explosive round.
