  • Apart from the fact that this album accompanies me every night on my nocturnal journey to dreamland, I have listened to this pure masterpiece along with Brian Eno's 'ambient 2' album and Ludovico Einaudi's art over and over again every time I have been on my 'autumn walk' alone with myself. The perfect trio to let myself escape to a safe place for a while. It's amazing how much emotion listening to this album can evoke. Sitting on a bench, watching leaves falling from the trees and swans swimming on the lake, I felt emptiness and powerlessness, but also peace, as if someone was embracing me with arms full of love. A moment of reflection, an appreciation of the beauty of the surrounding nature and the people in our lives - this album describes feelings that no words can describe. I think I have discovered new levels of my sensitivity lol. Isn't it beautiful that each of us has a 'secret life' to which we can sometimes return?

  • Ever since it’s release, no matter the weather, the world, the state of my own mind, this album has vibrated through the halls of my home everytime I make my way into my bed. This is the soundtrack to which I breathe, meditate, cry, journal, scream, laugh, question the universe, shout my gratitude into the ether and dream my dreams. This album has held me through heartbreak, loss, illness, heavy life changing “oh my god what the hell am I doing this is crazy but i feel it in my soul” decisions. It’s welcomed new connections into my life, it’s held me on train rides home from having 5 hour conversations that have ripped apart my soul. It’s been the soundtrack to my movie of a life unfolding. The beginning of friendships and love stories that I only dreamed possible. Its the album I play when I’m working with clients, asking them to delve deep into their psyche because I know the soundtrack will keep them safe. That this soundtrack heals. I know every note like it was written into my skin, and I’m forever begging to hear this album from start to finish in an abandoned church somewhere surrounded by candlelight and beautiful people. That would make my life! This is the soundtrack to my life, I’m grateful for every word that’s whispered, every note that is somehow intrinsically linked to part of my soul. To the star sent humans I’m now connected to because of our love for this piece of art. Did you know there’s many of us? All over the world that connected so deeply that we now have a secret lifers secret place where we talk everyday and hold each other through life? In that space there are love stories, friendships, deepest fears and wildest dreams and silliest nights shared. That was born because of this. This album is home. It’s heart. Thank you for bringing it into this world. I’ll be forever grateful. Ayisha x

Ben Gibbard from death cab and postal service was my first artist like that. Bonobo makes some great music as well with amazing collabs. Surrounding his usual dj sets with a live bon Iver esque show live with an orchestra and conducting from the center with some headphones.

  • listening to Secret Life when it was released, i was navigating the loss of a relationship and someone important to me. i remember vividly the emotions that had poured out because of these tracks - pain, anguish, sadness, heartache, endless tears… they allowed me to sit with the heaviness of it all. to feel the weight of my emotions & have a true cathartic release. that these tracks can evoke such feeling is a testament to how beautiful and powerfully healing this album is. Secret Life is a reminder of what it means to be human and to be able to feel so deeply. i come back to it often as a safe place. as a companion in my travels when things may feel a bit isolated and lonely. for quieter moments amongst the noise and stress of a busy everyday life. as a reminder of how much i have grown since. the beautiful friendships i’ve been able to forge as a result, and ones i find deep comfort in... i listen to Secret Life now with hope. that maybe things will be okay after all :) this music & this album has meant everything to me… so thank you both. and thank you, Brian for being the GOAT - not to be confused with a hardy domesticated ruminant animal that has backward curving horns, but rather…the Greatest Of All Time 🙇🏻‍♀🙏🏻👑❤ much love ❤

A personal lullaby, in the dawning mornings, that has accompanied me on my commute into the city on numerous occasions. • This is where I go when I need some softness, and a gentle reminder that it's all just a happenin' and we are all riding this beautiful fleeting thing we call life. The thing that gets me the most is that I don't even feel like I have the words to describe how this masterpiece makes me feel. It connects me to that state of flow. That feeling of being fully alive, the messiness, the beauty, it reminds me that we are not alone in the ebbs and flows. And it makes me smile and cry at the same time. I think one of the most poignant things I've discovered is that I've lived abroad most of my adult life, I rarely get home sick because I see 'home' as being wherever I am. Yet when I listen to this album it makes me miss my first home, the people and just being amongst life in the UK. Bottom line is, it makes me feel human, and that I have discovered a whole new spectrum of connecting and feeling, and for that alone I want to thank you both for existing and creating what you do. SOOO much love ❤❤❤

  • Lost among the debris on the shore, a weathered cassette tape caught my eye, "Secret Life". Intrigued, I inserted it into my Walkman and was transported to a faded world where the sun forever set on a Sunday evening. The faint music, tinged with a gentle melancholy, emotionally evoked the looming arrival of endless Mondays and the loneliness of facing the workweek. As the sun descended below the horizon, I was reminded that even amidst the aimlessness of shadow-stretched shores, there exists a world of value.

I have spent the past two years in school for music and graciously under the mentorship of an amazing musician, and there have been many times in my journey that I have thought back to Freds words talking about his relationship with Brian. A mentor-mentee relationship is so so important and rare and a beautiful thing, and this album absolutely represents that. This album came out the final week of my classes with this person, and we were able to share our love for this album together as well as connect to how that relationship sounds so beautiful when put into music. • There is a lot of chatter in my head at all times. Multiple thoughts at once, extreme overstimulation sensitivity... Fred all of your work does this for me, it's why you're my favorite. But Secret Life turns it all off for me. This album is my peace. This artwork is my serenity. Brian, this may fade into the sea of praise you have received throughout your life and it's all deserved so I'm good with that, but you have in many ways saved me from internal torment. with Secret Life, and with your mentorship of Fred, who's other projects have similarly helped me. I can put any part of Secret Life on and by the end of the track I am calm, centered, collected. My thoughts belong to me again. There are no words to describe how incredible that is, and how grateful I am for this gift. Thank you for everything. Love from across the Pond

  • It’s hard to verbalise the feelings you get when hear beauty. We can see beautiful artwork or natures wonder and articulate why it is beautiful but it’s harder with music. In my opinion this is a work of sheer beauty. The ability to be swept up in those drones and escorted to a sense of an audiophonic hug with a loveable old friend or humble counsel. Feels like a shoulder you are leaning on, telling you that you are not alone and that life wants you to experience it. Thank you Fred, thank you Brian, you gorgeous wonderful souls.

  • This album has helped me heal in many ways. To me it has been “the calm after the storm” in various moments, specially on those where I have felt the need to reconnect with myself, accept my thoughts and emotions and truly let myself feel. This isn’t something easy for me but I feel like Fred and Brian’s music creates a safe place in which I feel strong enough to withstand the pain of those raw emotions. I’d even say it’s like a medicine to me because it always ends up making me practice self compassion and perceiving life with gratitude.

UK btw. Hopefully this is a global occurance! Nice one Fred!

  • Hi Brian (and Fred)! It’s wild that this album is almost a year old. You guys gave us such a fun week with the filtered broadcasts leading up to release. It was my second most played album last year and kicked off a season of emotional healing. It’s so hard to pick a favorite on an album like this that’s a no-skips-single-experience kind of thing, but I think my favorite track is safety because I adore the staves x Bon Iver sample. Cheers guys, hope this year is good to you 🌺

A safe space to take a break from the turbulences of the daily madness you might find yourself in. A safe space to reflect your own thoughts. A safe space to let yourself fall into an emotion, take a close look and came back up. Perfect soundtrack for traveling. Perfect soundtrack to rest. Turn it on, may headphones be your choice, to have it really close to you, everything suddenly seems possible. Happy to see, some of the id - tunes found a home. Come on home. Thank you Brian. Thank you Fred.
