00:00 Oversized Clothes Introduction
The oversized clothing trend seems to be everywhere but going big is one of the biggest mistakes you could make with your clothing...literally!
It’s important to state that If you’re intentionally going for an oversized aesthetic you’re free to make that call. After all, we don’t want to stop you from experimenting with your style!
00:44 1. They Don't Make You Appear Bigger
02:08 2. They Don't Make You More Masculine
03:13 3. The Look Isn't Timeless
05:34 4. You'll Be More Uncomfortable
06:55 5. Poor Material Function
07:59 6. It'll Throw Off Your Entire Ensemble
09:53 7. You're Lowering Your Confidence
We hope this guide has helped to differentiate between well-tailored drape and oversized clothing and how Classic Style seeks to encourage clothing that isn’t oversized but is perfectly sized, and fitted, to you.

  • Seeing Preston in the batman t-shirt always makes me smile. Besides that; Thank you for this video. Regarding trendy outfits, I really like the phrase "The harsh truth is it just looks exactly like what it is: a passing trend". And isn´t this exactly what the intention behind fast fashion is? How else can companies promoting those kind of clothing sell their items?

  • So I keep oversized clothes in my wardrobe, however; they are work clothes. I am a mechanic in my day job, and don't work around a lot of moving machinery. I do have to cram into tight places and bend at awkward angles, so having loose fitting/oversized clothing allows me comfort and mobility. I chose function over fit. However, all my other clothes fit me personally to the right size and measurements.

    • I must confess, the challenges of pairing classic style with dwarfism never occurred to me, and now I’m quite curious (and I mean that with earnest respect). Historically, back in the days when just about every man wore suits, do you know what people with dwarfism typically wore? These days, are online retailers such as, say, StudioSuits able to work with your measurements? Furthermore, from experience I know that it can be surprisingly affordable to find good quality fabric around; maybe buying the raw material and then hiring a tailor to make you a suit would be more affordable. In any case, it’s certainly not as straightforward as buying off-the-rack but, then again, such clothes are rarely well-fitting for anyone… Anyway, thanks for your comment and for taking the time to read mine. I’d be curious to know your thoughts on any of these matters, or what you’ve decided is best for you regarding your own style. In any case, I hope you have a great day. Cheers!

  • I have a few reproductions of Victorian era shirts. They are high quality and well made. These shirts were made to be generous sized in the chest and arms and are longer than modern shirts. Shirts back in the 1800s were often one size fits most going by your collar size, so the chest size was generous and the arms were often were one length, unless you had a tailor that could give you a better fit. Shirts back then were longer as this was before underwear became normal for men to wear. Men could tuck the bottom of their shirts between their legs and use them as underwear (gross I know). I have found these style of shirts, while the collar fits me perfectly and isn't too wide or too tight, they are bigger in the chest than I wear in a modern shirt, but they still look good and they don't look oversized when I wear them, especially when I wear them with a waistcoat. I wear arm garters and those help pull up the longer arms so they don't look or feel too long. If I wore a modern style shirt with the same size chest as these, it does look too big for me and I don't like that and would never wear one like that. On the opposite end, I'd never wear clothes that were a bit tight fitting anymore. I used to have some clothes that were slim fitting or skinny fit and I ended up donating them as they not only became a bit uncomfortable to wear after a while, they didn't actually look good on me.

A similar thing happens when I wear trousers, but I get away wearing a belt or drawstring/pull on pants. I see many places may carry size 41 and 31, but no other odd number I know you might suggest going tailor or custom any other options suggestions would work.

      @ABC-rh7zc@ABC-rh7zc2 ай бұрын
    • A 44R is too loose where exactly? The chest? Does it fit well in the shoulders? You probably should stick with the 44R and have you clothing tailored.

      @uelnoland@uelnoland2 ай бұрын
    • It took me awhile to fully realize that, both historically and today, some amount of tailoring is almost always expected and even intended. Thus, sizes such as ‘44R’ are meant to give you an idea of the kind of tailoring you can expect rather than an indication that the particular item might or might not fit you. Tailoring an item- whether bought off-the-rack or custom made- is just a part of the process. Once I accepted this I stopped fretting so much and was able to focus more on the quality of the materials and patterns and whatnot. So, my advice: even the best fitting garments SHOULD be taken to the tailor at some point, so grab something that generally fits best but, more importantly, which you really love!

Who else but babies and toddlers wear baggy (always get a size to 'grow into'), matched sets (Go-Ranimals and pajamas), super clean (dressed up for Grammie), tilted hat (isn't he cuuute?) togs but powerless, dependent, children. To my eye, it's emasculating.

But I have broad shoulders and I have noticed that a 40R fits better in the shoulders, is more comfortable and more roomy in the chest giving a similar appearance to the 1930’s drape look after having the waist pulled in. • This isn't relevant for women, right? Especially Japanese women? Oversized clothing seems like a huge fashion there.
