The group is attacked by really big flesh eating ants.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Everyone's favorite archeologist adventurer dusts off his hat and trusty whip for yet another globetrotting trek as Indiana Jones returns to the big screen nearly 20 years after racing for the Holy Grail alongside his father in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). Harrison Ford reprises his role as the iconic, snake-loathing screen hero in a sequel that also finds Karen Allen returning to the series for the first time since 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark. Ray Winstone, John Hurt, Jim Broadbent, and Shia LaBeouf round out a cast that also features Cate Blanchett in the role of villainous Russian operative Agent Irina Spalko. Steven Spielberg calls the shots on a script penned by David Koepp (and adapted from the screen story by executive producer George Lucas).

    • tbf, this idea was in the pipelines for a long time, even I was surprised. Apparently, they wanted the third film to be about the monkey king in Africa, and they were gonna use this.

  • Saw this scene as a kid and it gave me a full blown phobia of ants. I needed therapy when I got older and everything. Obviously phobias are complex and there was other stuff going on but this scene was definitely the begining of it. Over ten years later and I came back to see how I would cope- saw the thumbnail, and immediately freaked out. Not ready to face this yet but figured I'd leave a comment so that if I ever do finally get up the courage to watch it again I can see it and hopefully feel a little bit proud. Amazing scene, ruined my life lol

    • Remember that these scenes are over exaggerated. No ant species act like what the clip shows. Army ants, which is the probably the inspiration for this don't consume humans like what is depicted here.

    • Have you ever been bitten by a fire 🔥 ant? I was, once, in Florida in 1991. On the back of my neck. I slapped it so hard that my teeth rattled. One of my friends saw this, then tickled the back of my neck with a palm frond. SLAP!!! And my teeth rattled again. And he cracked up laughing! I threw a medium tree log at him. Dork.

  • I saw this first when I was 10 and it did not scare or frighten me. I thought it was sick, yes, but I did not find it scary or disturbing. The other kids in my class thought the same about this scene, sick, but not scary or disturbing. Some kids can handle and/or take scenes like this, some can’t. Not all kids are the same.

  • This can actually happen, given the fact if the ants' nest is big enough. During the Baltic Partisan War, there was the Kazlu Ruda incident. On July 1945, some Russians disguised as Germans parachuted into the Kazlu Ruda forest and some partisans went to visit them and offer hospitality. No one returned. When some rescue partisans arrived, they saw all of the other partisans were killed by disguised Russians. One of them had their head thrust into an ants nest. When the rescue partisans pulled him out, they saw that the ants had eaten all of the flesh off of his head, leaving just a skull

  • I don't love this movie, as a whole, but I love this scene. First, it's a breath of fresh air to have a movie fight without all the complicated choreography (which I typically do enjoy). Here, it's just two guys punching each other until someone drops. Second, the ants are fantastic. The CGI is really well done and, as shown by the comments on this video, as effective as the series' previous "creepy crawly" sequences. The fact that they carry the Russian into the ant hill is so bonkers that I adore it.
