Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know that my new book, Things That Matter, is finally here. I put my heart into it, and I can’t wait to share it with you. You can pick up a copy at www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/676394/things-that-matter-by-joshua-becker/
All this guy does is regurgitate stuff our parents taught us and add 'MY system' or 'MY NEW method' to make money off it! Lol Americans really are the dumbest! Same way they made poor China rich by buying cheap Made in China crap now China dictates American economic policy and politics while Americans are still looking at old 'enemy' Russia who DID NOT kill hundreds of millions or destroy economies in the last three years with Bio warfare. One day they'll wake up speaking Chinese and still blame Russia. Super Lol
You forgot old baby clothes. heeeee heeee!
Amazing hair
I just took 4 days off from work so I can declutter my apartment, so this video has been perfect!!!
You got this!
So I was planning to move to a new house. I packed all my belongings and for the last three weeks lived with the barest minimum of clothes, kitchen items, etc. - just enough to get by each day. Life was simple and easy. The last night before the movers were set to come, I disconnected the tv and the computer. And with no distractions, I turned back to my writing, which brings me JOY - and which I had scarcely done it in the past months as I house-hunted and cleaned and prepared to move. Thank God the move has fallen through. I know now what I can live without and what was draining my life away. I hope never to go back to those things and behaviors.
What a wonderful way to look at it! Good for you!
"The minimalist" calls it "packing party" - where you pack everything, and than unpack only what you need. Live like this for 3 weeks and what is still in boxes, goes👍
I moved from my 2.5 storey home to a small 1 bedroom apt. I imagined what I wanted my new place to look like, kept those things, and got rid of the rest. In the end the only thing I really missed was my garden. My things didn't matter.
Your story is very inspiring!
Wow. That's amazing😊
I left most behind few years ago. Stuff got sold with the house. Didn't miss a thing (maybe couple minor things). What I did miss was the lifestyle left behind. That's irreplaceable.
Awe I've gone through that Container gardening helps
I wish my elderly parents had taken this approach when they retired and moved! They talk incessantly about the burden of caring for all their “stuff”...but refuse to get rid of it or accept help to organize it or anything. It’s exhausting even talking to them, let alone visiting. Your story is an absolute inspiration. Time to go purge some more 😊
Greetings from Germany to everyone!
Hi! I use to have a pen pal ages ago from Germany! Enjoy your day! John 3:16 ❤️

Here’s one idea that probably doesn’t come up too often. Make your home safe and accessible in terms of navigating through it on a daily basis. This idea only occurred to me when my husband and I got old and infirm. Nowadays, I make sure that our home has: * clear sight lines * clear pathways (also, we may use walkers or scooters in future, EMTs may need access) * clear doorways * no trip hazards * rounded furniture - and less of it * grab bars and tub stick-ons in the bathroom, non-skid floor mat near the tub * good lighting - LED ceiling fixtures (no ladders), and motion-sensor night lights - indoors and outdoors) * no candles * few decorative pillows or knickknacks, minimal seasonal decor (only quality, beautiful items that make you happy) * safe heaters (Dyson) * cleared tabletops (so we don’t accidentally knock things off, and so we can hold onto the tables if need be as we walk by) * few area rugs (trip hazards) * easy-to-clean window treatments (ladder-free cleaning) * fewer possessions so we no longer need to use our highest shelves or the basement or the garage for storage (unsafe) * etc., etc. These ideas keep our minimalist home tidy and safe for ourselves and our guests. Our estate will be easier for our surviving relatives to process when we’re gone.
The Last phrase reminded me of The term swedish death cleaning which im trying to acomplish after The death of my parentes. They didnt have many things or clutter but i had to process it all and choosing what i wanted to keep was really Hard! I want to make it easy for my daughter and At The same time make my life easier and calmer.
Very good points 👍😁, you are a gem, my parents and especially my in-laws have homes full of stuff, that they don't even realize that they still own. I find it stressful being in clutter homes. My mother in law's kitchen counter and dinning table is always so full of stuff that you have to move things around just to make a cup of tea 🙄🙄🙄, my daughter once accidentally spilled something she was drinking at the dinning room table and other items got wet, there was no space for a small plate and a glass 🤦🤦🤦🤦, you can't be upset with small children for spilling things.
One thing I had a problem with as I aged was tipping glasses over when I reach for them. I donated all tall, wobbly glasses and bought ones that are 3 or 4 inches high with a sturdy base. Haven’t spilled a single drop since. Not sure if you’ve had that problem but thought I’d share.
@@maleidi Hello, you are right…minimalism equals easier.
@@anaalves3658 Hello, you are right…stuff equals stress.
The question “ what do I need” is a game changer for decluttering…. Thank you for another wonderful video!
Lol, prepping people…what do I need?….
@@goontubeassos7076 I'm a prepper and a minimalist - yes, it works :) The minimalist mindset actually helps a lot with prepping, no stockpiling useless stuff for "just in case".
@@MrGrumpyGills Going into preparing as a minimalist is one thing, becoming a minimalist as a prepper is another thing. 😂 from experience. My biggest problem is my kids are grown and moved out, but left behind their prepping stuff/stuff, and I’m self employed work from home with inventory-tools I need. My kids all went minimalist, left back packing never moved back. 😂
*“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending...”* *―C. S. Lewis* I may not know you personally, but I believe in you my friend! 🙏
Yes, I follow minimalism after I watched Joshua Becker. His video was the one which I watched first and made my mind to follow this cute habit.💚
respect......
I'm already a minimalist, but am always looking to maintain my clear space - especially as a parent!! Thanks for always posting good, helpful content! God bless!
My daughter had asked me what I needed for Father's Day, and I said, "Nothing". The end. ❤️
My husband, kids, and I decided years ago to stop giving gifts, at least for the regular occasions. The occasional gift still happens when someone comes across something irresistibly right for someone, but it's rare. So much better this way!
@GaryPeterson67 Awesome! My daughter was a bit richer as well ... ;)
@@pipmitchell7059 Great stuff ... some have a "love language" of "gift giving", but gifts don't have to be $$$ but time. :D
You need them, that's it 😁
I have stopped buy gifts for the most part, I prefer to take people out to a meal.
i love this concept. an idea that works well for my personality is i like to completely empty a space before i declutter, whether it's a drawer or a closet, so that i am starting with a blank slate. i am less likely to 'reclutter' the space once i see how nice it looks uncluttered.
I really hope my husband wakes up one day and start living like this.. I love owning less but he is not that kind.. He keeps buying things that is no use and mostly for display even though there is no more space.. It hurts so much in the eyes. It messes up so much in my head seeing all the mess around. Instead of enjoying life you spend your time cleaning and arranging that shitty stuffs.
💡💡💡I think I have a good idea!😌 whenever I feel like buying something or wanting to get something back I look at my photo album which has all the photos showing everything I got rid of, everything I gave and with of course the weight and dimensions of things that no longer weigh me. and then I remember all the time it took me to achieve this result🙂🙋🏻♀️
"What do you want to keep?" is the wallpaper on my phone. Stuff, relationships, hobbies...it applies to everything.
It's like choosing what you like to eat from a buffet and ignoring other foods though you paid for the whole buffet.
Just don’t get the buffet 🤣 pay for the items on the menu you actually eat.
@@victoriamather2267 you're right... That's the idea of minimilism and why we do decluttering. I wish if I knew that since the beginning 😄
@@bananaanna1373 I agree with you. But if we know exactly what we want and what is good for us we will no longer mind about the abundance of merchandise or the food. The only unsatisfactory will be if what want and need is not available.
A daily dose of Joshua Becker is my best anxiety treatment.
Haha. Tell the world - we could cure quite a few health and social ills.
Same! Especially that there is soothing yet uplifting music and texture at the end so I don’t get the “hit pause as fast as possible before an ad ruins my mood” anxiety.
The challenge is arriving at a simplicity mindset where we can even seriously consider what we really need. It's the eternal needs vs wants dilemma.
We are remodeling our kitchen so all of its contents are in a different room. Before I put things back in, I’ll ask myself this question. Thank you for your videos!
I'm packing up my kitchen as we are going to start demolition next in just over a week. I have started to pack up the things that we don't use daily, my husband actually said that we should only open a box and take out what we need to see how much we actually don't use. I have been getting rid of items that we haven't used in a long time. Good luck with your renovation 🤞
I dumped all my kitchen utensils in a big box and only took an item out as I needed to use it. After I used and washed it, it went back in the kitchen drawer. After a couple of weeks, I had all I needed and donated the rest left in the box!
I’ve really been struggling getting started on a major purge. I’ve never thought of minimizing by just thinking about what I need.. this is going to help me SO MUCH.. thank you!
Glad it was helpful. You can do it.
A great question to help when considering what to keep and not keep, love it😀👍
Spot on!!! I am going to declutter this way from now on! Thank you!
This is a brilliant approach! Makes so much sense, not sure why I haven't heard it before. Thank you!
It's a spin on Marie Kondo's "sparks joy."
I've been following you mr. Becker for last 2 years I was already a pretty disciplined but have followed a lot of your suggestions on decluttering and got rid of many things that I never used or had too much of made it easier to clean and enjoy life and enjoy the things that really matter in life thanks for your videos they're great motivator thanks again
sir, I want to shake your hand. I love your channel with no ads ☺ cheers from 🇵🇭
I appreciate your videos. Keeping them short and to the point is a form of minimalism which is great! You respect our time by doing your videos like this. Thanks for sharing with us in this way.
You are the best - succinct and to the point. I value how well you distill your messages to the important points. Thank you!!
I actually printed off a bridal registry “need” list and used that as a guide because I thought about what a house starts off with and what it accumulates
What a great idea
Yes! I have been saying this forever. It simplifies it all.
This is such a great question.... as someone who has been decluttering and minimising deeply and continuously bit by bit (with a lot fo success) the past year, this is like the next level question to go even further. I think early on, we ca really make excuses for what we think we need.... because having stuff makes us seemingly happy... and we "need" to feel happy. Then, when you start to part with stuff, and realise greater happiness and contentment is actually on the other side (where there is LESS), then asking "what do I REALLY need" is such a potent question to be able to make even more difference and part with more.
It's the thrill of the hunt! We don't really need it ...
I am going to try this approach. Thank you. Greetings from Portugal
I'm still decluttering. I watch your videos before each decluttering session. I find it hard getting rid of old electrical equipment like cameras and phones because they still work perfectly fine!
Do you use them? If not, they could bless someone else's life?
Can you not sell these items
I am starting on my grandchildren's room on Monday. My grandson plays on his tablet, builds with Legos, his remote control toys and wants his Hot Wheels. I start at the doorway with a trash can, A laundry basket and a donation box. Anything that is not on that list goes into one of the boxes at my side. It will not take too long. Then we will designate where his retained items go. The real secret will be to make sure all items are in their place every night before bed!
So glad for this message today. My closet, mainly clothes, is my next frontier for decluttering. You described a great way to approach it.
I’ve been on this journey for more than 10 years, and this is probably the best tip I’ve ever heard!
I’m always amazed how many linens people think they need for their daily use…sheets, towels, blankets, etc. less is always more! Great message!
I like this. It makes it easier to declutter.
I’ve been working towards minimalism for a couple of years so I was surprised to find a new way to declutter. I really like keeping the things I like then giving away the rest. Much easier on my ole’ head! lol
This is so helpful. I had a hard time deleting photos from my phone so I made a new folder and said only pick the ones I liked and I was suprised how little I put in the new folder. I felt completely fine to let go of the rest
Great idea!
Such a great idea. I have 5 USB’s and they are full of pictures.
This is a great idea! Photos on my phone are my nemesis when it comes to decluttering lol!
That aproach is just brilliant. I love it!
You always have an alternative way to view our "too much stuff". Thank you 😊
Genius ! Plus this would leave much less of maybes stuff .
Good point that this approach with help with the "maybe" stuff!
I watch so many videos about minimalist but this short video is the best advice ever. Thanks
Exactly! I think so too.
GAME CHANGER! Thank you Mr. Becker! Love from Canada! 😘
So much easier! Thanks
just what I needed to hear today - I keep going upstairs and into my closet and so far only 4 things made it into the give-away bag.....yours is a much better way of approaching things -- thanx for this!
Always good advice from Joshua. Keep coming back to it to keep on track
Thank you for sharing.
I love this suggestion! I feel inspired like I can finally stop being overwhelmed and take action. Thank you!
Finally a clear decluttering approach I can understand!
Thank you Joshua and greeting from the Mediterranean. Love all your videos.
I’d never thought of decluttering this way before. Such great advice, I’ll be sure to try it out. Thank you so much.
Thank You Josh Becker, I've felt that thought of process but never put it into words.
You just speak gold. I am going to try this new approach. Thank you so much!
LOVE this different perspective on "what do I need to keep". I feel a weight has been lifted!
Good idea, kind of like seeing the glass half full. This approach works well for my kids to declutter their toys, puts a positive spin on decluttering. 🙂
Thank you, Kim and Joshua! ♥♥♥
Where has this guy been in my life?! I love this video! Clear cut concise not a long video easy peasy Men think differently than women that’s for sure! I love his way of delivery how he speaks, nice but clear. I think we make things complicated sometimes and that just slows us down! This is like doing basic math! To declutter! Good thing to remember!
Thank you for keeping your videos short and getting to the point quickly. Wonderful guidance and examples.
You are welcome.
Brilliant! Thanks JB!
And such a time saver too!
An excellent way to change the perspective to a positive rather than a negative. Game changer. Thank you!
Thanks Joshua for this video. What a great way to declutter.
This approach is a brilliant idea! It makes much more sense. Thank you for your wonderful and helpful videos.
Good advice, it eliminates the maybes and the what if’s 💡♥️✌🏼
wow! out of all of the videos to help with declutter and i have watched for years many different people and this one is the best!!!!!
Very useful tip! Makes a lot of sense and makes you realise just how much "stuff" is totally unnecessary!
Before even watching your video, I had been playing around with the same idea while exercising and looking at my bookshelves. What books do I want to keep, not what books do I want to get rid of. Thank you for expanding on that question! We must be of the same mindset. It seems so simple now that I have flipped the question from 'get rid of' to 'keep'.
Wonderful & perfectly practically sensible post..Thank you, Joshua.Stay blessed.
That is like what Marie Kondo says too. Great idea to apply for decluttering!
Great way to change your starting point! Thanks for the video!!
This is brilliant. It changes everything.
Do thank you. . God bless you and bless all your family. .
It's all in the perspective, isn't it?! Cool!!
What do I need to keep? Genius! Mr. Becker, thank you.
Joshua I loved your approach to this dilemma!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you for all the great tips I started getting rid of stuff about a year ago an still working on it not because I have alot but because iam learning how to declutter
I always appreciate your videos! Two of our kids live in Texas with their families. When they visit, especially at Christmas when they are all here… as well as our oldest who is local … Our house is full to the max! Eight adults and seven grandchildren… and often times, my elderly father-in-law. I would only need things for the two of us if we lull lived closer… but I do need multiple guest towels, sheet sets, cribs and pack-n-plays. It’s really something trying to minimize when we still need extra things for the holidays and summer visits.
Thank you for this amazing concept!!!
I have decluttered my closet to my favourite outfits, all of which fit me and are comfortable to wear. It is lovely to have a half full closet and dresser drawers with lots of space. I do probably have too much tupperware though, sigh ... Many thanks for another great video!
Excellent ideas, as always, Joshua! Thanks for sharing! :-) YOU are the BEST!
I absolutely LOVE this approach! Thanks Joshua!! Always wait weekly for your youtube posts!!
Such a brilliant and inspiring concept. Thanks Joshua 🤗
Love this!! A very different approach that I will now look at as I ‘right-size’ our home after the holidays are over! Pat in Colorado, age 73
This is the first time I've heard this concept explained this way, and I've read and watched a lot of minimalism stuff over the years.
Thank you for this approach to decluttering. My problem is my clothes fitting into a small closet. I will take your advice and pull out what I really like and eliminate the rest. You are very encouraging and thank you for the boost!!!
That makes perfect sense.
Hi Joshua, I have been really stuck getting started on my decluttering journey. The process feels very overwhelming from the viewpoint of what possessions to remove. It is MUCH easier to think in terms of “This is what I actually NEED,” and put those useful, well-loved and enjoyed items in a significantly smaller pile than the unecessary cast-offs and multiples. This seemingly simple concept and your video was a huge lightbulb moment for me. Revelatory. Thank you so much. 🙂🙏
So clever! I've always struggled with knowing what to do about clutter and this really simplifies the task. Thank you.
So simple it’s smart
Thank you Joshua. This video is going to change my de-cluttering process because what I'm doing now isn't working.
Excellent Joshua! This is exactly how I declutter a space. I have been an evolving Minimalist since 2018 and now I am down to a very low, very comfortable amount of stuff that don’t clutter up my life.
I am going to try that this weekend. No close involved but I do have a closet to clean out.
Brilliant! This is just what I needed to hear!
Thanks! I'm definitely going to try this.
I needed this…. It feels like I’m not getting anywhere removing items from my home.
Thanks Josh great advice as always
Thank you. Your wisdom and advice is helping me.
Brilliant approach! Thanks!
I love how you simplify the process of simplifying. :-)
Game Changerr!!! Thank ye for this.
Joshua Becker I been following you for a very long time. You are very encouraging!! Keep making more videos like this!! 😊
