ICON A5 Trailer Video Tutorial

I made this video for a client who wanted to know exactly how the A5 get onto the A5 Trailer. The video itself is long and boring, but the A5 trailer isn't cheap, so I wanted to demonstrate the engineering behind it.

    @xpeterson@xpeterson3 жыл бұрын
    • xpeterson I hear what you’re saying, but believe me, if we could sell it cheaper we would because we would sell more. Fact is, it’s expensive to build. A brand new C172 costs $429,000. A brand new Cirrus is $800k+. So unless you start comparing us to cheap planes that are cheap to build, we’re pretty competitive. Takes a lot less to buy a hangar than it does to build one new out of steel. I know we’re not overcharging for the trailer because we don’t make a dime on it.

  • Nice video for the most part. However, I have to take exception with you stepping "OVER" the winch cable, ESPECIALLY UNDER LOAD! This is NOT an acceptable or SAFE practice at all! If that cable snaps, it will slice you in half without anything to stop it at all! I was a recovery mechanic in the Army and was trained in winch operations. If you have to reposition yourself during the winch operation, walk around the REAR of the aircraft ONLY! Yes it's farther to walk but, it is SAFE. Also, do NOT stand or allow other to stand near the tongue of the trailer either. Everywhere from the point of the winch where the cable comes out to twice the length of cable pulled out in a 360 degree arc centered on the winch is the danger zone in case of a winch cable failure! Inside the tow vehicle "may" be safe but, keep in mind that the windows will not stop or slow down the cable much at all and can still injure or kill people there!

    @dalemckenzie3223@dalemckenzie32232 жыл бұрын
    • The plane only weighs 1080lbs and the cable is vinyl not steel, if the cable snaps it would sting but it wouldn’t even break the skin. Great advice, but due to the lack of weight/load the risk profile changes as well.

      @GaryJamesKnight@GaryJamesKnight2 жыл бұрын
    • @@GaryJamesKnight Do you really think it's worth the risk instead of being safe about the operation? And if it hits you with one foot on each side, it'll do more than just sting even if you are lucky! LOL

      @dalemckenzie3223@dalemckenzie32232 жыл бұрын
    • @@dalemckenzie3223 same odds that the line would snap and the airplane roll me over while walking behind it. Everything has a risk associated with it. There’s not enough tension on that line to do anything more than tell an embarrassing story. I know because under load I can still push it to the ground without putting my body weight on it and plucking it under load doesn’t even generate a tone. You are absolutely correct and I agree with you that it’s not an example of a safe practice though.

  • SHould have put you camera at the rear of the plane since that is where everything happens. Very disappointing.

    • Expats of Azeroth lol, too broke for the plane, I sell these I don’t own one, I recorded this on my iPhone for a client and I get criticized for it 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

    • @@GaryJamesKnight HA!!! Not criticized lol, I'm just jealous, I really like these planes but it's just as reasonable to me as buying a super car, same price, same usefulness, doesn't stop me wanting one, sadly all the motorized $200k investments I make have to pay for themselves.
