Him and Jodi Foster!! I’m so excited to see her in another movie - it’s been so long!
"since when did we start locking up people in this country without a trial"..... lol literally since 1776
"democracy", "rule of law", "human rights" - never were those phrases more empty
@@bernhardstil6128 unless you are comparing absolute numbers in the United States to places like Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia and probably a few others... In that comparison any man or woman of any colour or religion is lucky to live in the United States today.
@@northernpike13 Just to make sure we are on the same page. You are posting on Social Media the following argument for all to see: That if we compare the United State of America "the shinning beacon of Hope and Democracy to the world", against a list of the worst or the worst when it comes to human right abuse. We are better because we are slightly "less worse" then those they are!? What the actual fuck? I think your moral compass needs an adjustment.
@@northernpike13 What are you doing? Comparing the US to North Korea, China and Russia just to proof your point that people should be thankful for what the US is today? Never seen someone destroying their own argument with good intentions.
@@fredpinczuk7352 First of all you should learn what quotes are used for. I never said the USA was "the shinning beacon of Hope and Democracy to the world" however many times it has been. Ever heard of WW1 and WW2. And yes I am comparing it to over half the world. And when you say "slightly less worse" - that shows either how little you know about all of those places or how skewed and warped your view of the world is. Get some facts. They are readily available. Here is one for you. NK has over a million people in labour camps and over a million people in prison. Many of those people were born there. They are receiving whats called generational punishment. Because of something their parent did they will spend their lives in prison and so will their children. Yeah - America is slightly less worse than that.

Benedict Cumberbatch's accent in this trailer sounds like a mixture of Forrest Gump, Sylvester Stallone and McCauley Culkin.

No it doesn’t.
You need to pay attention to the detail. The nuance of his voice.
That's what he was going for, and he nailed it.

I watched the film and felt that his accent was very bad. He couldn't even hide his British accent.

the "this is a true story part" really creeped me out, it just feels like the objective of this movie is to re-write history that hasn't even had time to become history

I really liked it. The casting was spot on. The dialogue was great. I don't understand America's insistence on using British actors to play Americans but whatever. The story is fascinating and disturbing and kept me enthralled the whole way through. Well worth a watch.
For an english actor to alter their speech they have to have an innate understanding of language. A lot of british actors are shakespearean trained. If you can do shakespeare you own the acting world.
next year: the mauritanian versus the mandalorian! coming sooon.
lol yeah and they’ll still say “this is a true story”
It sounds like Cumberbatch's voice has been enhanced to be deeper than humanly possible.
Yeah man.. why do that!!
I'm, your brother Mohamed from Mauritania, thank you for this wonderful dramatic work that tells the story of the Mauritanian prisoner Mohamedou Slahi.
Did this really happen?
If you mean the story of prisoner "Muhammadu Salahi", it is a true story and he himself wrote a book about it called "The Guantánamo Diary", you can Google it and read it , it is a very useful book.

@brie larson I don't see a reason for that, he's played several prominent roles, acts well and the movies he is in are rather delightful.
Is it just me, or do a lot of British actors have a much deeper tone when portraying non British characters. Very noticeable here and Dr Strange with Benadryl Cucumberpatch. Also in House with Hugh Laurie.
yes, that how we control our accent........:)
Actually each language has its own pitch! Speakers of British English (on average) speak in a higher pitch than speakers of American English. So @galas062 is right, using pitch is one way of making an accent that's not yours sound believable.

"The Mauritanian" tells a true story of my compatriot, the mauritanien🇲🇷 Muhammadu Ould Slahi, who spent 14 years in Guantanamo Bay detention without being charged! (2002-2016).
What happens when you falsely bring someone in? Are the people who bring them in not in trouble or anything? Since they did wring by imprisoning someone who was falsely accused?
@@Bel-bx9zt It's fucking Guantánamo Bay. You're lucky if you ever get released from there. If you do... well... how different might you be after thousands of days of nonstop torture? Like we Americans will actually punish those who falsely imprison people in Guantánamo.
If this was a true story it would say from the very beginning that Salahi was trained by al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and provided support for al-Qaeda operations throughout the '90s. Salahi's cousin was Bin Laden's advisor. If he was an American captured by such compatriots, he'd be beheaded or burned alive in a cage during a live stream. Take off your pink glasses. Americans at least questioning their own wrongdoings.

I’m suppose to feel bad for the people who killed my friends?
@Eve Angélique a different question is are they criminals or prisoners of war or war criminals? Each is treated differeently. POWs don’t require trials but at most are held until the war is over (if not released/returned/traded for earlier). If they are prisoners of The War on Terror are we really gonna hold them indefinitely. I think the truth is we were pissed about 9/11 (understandable) and we overreacted/trusted the wrong people...in the words of Obama “we tortured some folks” and by the time we realized we jacked up we had many prisoners in limbo and an entire network of black sites and torturers and we don’t know how to unwind this knot. If we try to bring these guys to trial in our Justice system they almost certainly have grounds for dismissal and all evidence/interrogation info is tainted not to memtion if you thought they were terrorist before do you trust them to not be terrorist after this. The “RIGHT” thing to do is prolly release/return them but politically it’s gonna look real bad for whoever pulls that trigger and that’s if they just go home and live their lives in peace. What if they are radicalized what if they go around sharing their story and that leads to anti American sentiment abroad (more than there already is) we should have had the FBI involved with each of these dudes from the start and once the military/cia got there data, sans torture, let the FBI handle criminal charges. But we didn’t so now we are stuck with this.
First like let's gooo
This gonna be a nice movie. Looking forward
I think I read about this guys life in a "Sueddeutsche Zeitung" article. It might spoiler the film if you know nothing about this guy, but you might want to read further if you're just interested. I found the article and surely, you probably can look it up on wikipedia, but some people surely don't mind when I write something about him here. The man's name is 'Mohamedou Ould Salahi'. He was born as the title suggests in Mauritania. But he eventually got off to Germany and was studying engineering at Duisburg University. In 1990, when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, he joined the Al-Quaida which was at the time heavily supported by the West, or more specifically the US. Not by boots on the ground, but by weapons and potencially even training. After having defeated the Soviets, he was getting more and more disgusted by the way Al-Quiada seeked to build their new nation state and left them for good. At least he tried to. But things only started to go from bad to worse. His Cousin had strong ties to Osama bin-Laden and once he called him with Osama's phone. Another occasion he allowed students who were sent by a friend of his, to stay at his place for a night and as it turned out they all were terrorists who would then be involved in 9/11. For the CIA this man was without a doubt an accomplice and so he was captured and kidnapped to Guantanamo. There was isolation and extreme torture without once having seen a court. And that's where the film picks the story up. And of course the story has a happy end, though it took a while until he was truly a free man. Being brought back to Mauritania he wasn't allowed to move freely, as the US heavily pressured the Mauritanian government to not hand him out a passport, but as of 2019 the ban was lifted and now, after having been imprisoned in Guantanamo for about 15 years, he finally is there. The article is shortened and in German, as I do only have access to the free version and being written by a German newspaper. Maybe translate will work maybe not: www.sueddeutsche.de/politik/profil-mohamedou-ould-salahi-1.4673391 Can't wait to see the film. I didn't remember that it was going to be made, but I'll probably watch it in the cinema right away (if possible)
