Beautiful run. One question. Did Cody bump anything into the toe before turning the toe, or is he relying on seating-out to provide both sole relief and stock width at the toe?
Hi Mark. No bumping. With a plain stamped, it is not as important as with a fullered shoe. Seating out does the trick.

@@igor22m Cody almost always bumps. His first heat is usually a bump-and-bend, but I would have to watch this again to remember if he did it here.

I am looking for help - My 23 yr old Quarter horse stopped wanting to pick up his front feet about 2 years ago. He is barefoot in a softish dirt paddock. He tends to wear his outer heal down more than the inner heal on his front feet. He also started getting arthritis in his Rt front knee about 2 years ago. I believe the pain from the unlevel front feet and the arthritis made him fear the tweaking the farrier has to do to put the foot between her legs. He got completely unwilling to let us pick up his front feet. He puts all his weight in the front when you try to pick up a front foot. Back feet are no problem. Last time the farrier tranquilized him with a fast acting paste you put under the tongue - and she found an abscess in one of the front feet. He coliced so bad from the tranquilizer that I thought he was going to die. He has never been good with pain and is really sensitive. He used to be about 1200 lbs - a big guy, but lost weight the last year because his is in pain in the front end and limps a little on the side with arthritic knee. I now have him on MSM and Glucosimine and Biotin to help ease the discomfort, which has helped him get his appetite back. But..... I still cannot lift his front feet. What can we do? I have had to grind off his extra hoof in the front to keep them from getting too long, but I am afraid to call the farrier. I can only get the outside wall, and cannot see the frog. I am wondering about asking the farrier to put the Founder type clamps on in the hopes he will be in less pain and let us lift his front feet. I have also been giving him Bute for the 2 days prior to the Farrier visits - but not enough relief. NOW WHAT??? What can I do next?? Is there a way to get him to trust this will not hurt? It has been a struggle for 2 years and now impossible. Should I try to get an antibiotic in him before the farrier?? Please - if you have any ideas I would appreciate it.

Its all fine and dandy when you have a horse that cooperates with you but when they start taking there foot away its difficult to be done in 30 minutes
Is there a reason why u wipe your sweat on the hoof when ur done ?
You aren't allowed any sort of finish during the actual exam, so sweat is a as close as you can get to putting a shine on the foot.

You don't have to be fast to be good !!! Thats crazy !! Id rather have a person go slower !!
This demo is not about going fast. It is simply doing it correctly with precision in a way that reduces having to fix mistakes. Smooth is fast.
He'll slow down after 20,000 horses lol, ask me.
How should a hoof smell my horse hoof stinks a little but nothing black or ouzzing out .
most will stink due to the crap that gets stuck in them thrush will give them a pungent pong
The feet shouldn't be smelling unless they have some infection. Horse poop don't smell as bad as cow or pig poop does.
