  • The first 21st century, baddest bass line, is the bridge in Runaway. And the outro. Gawd, learning to play that really kicked my ass! But I love bass. Curiously, almost 20 years later, the lyrics ring true. Wow. Great job, my favorite band!

    • “REAL SAGA”, I love Ian when they don’t kill his playing with false production. Everything including the bass playing is killer. Than, you have Steve Negus being what he has always been, a great hard hitting progressive rock drummer. This song “Runaway” rocks.

  • Better than the late ‘80’s, when everything was fake and the producers were trying to make Michael Sadler a solo act. This is Saga, real life music, real life Saga.

  • Interesting material. Saga has always been one of my favorite bands. They did some very nice fusion stuff in the album... The Human Condition. 2010 it was released I believe. Unfortunately Michael Sadler was not with them for this album. But the vocalist they had did a great job. 😁

  • It's sad, really. I absolutely love the first 4 studio albums, but anything past that just seems bland and boring to me. The style they introduced partly on Worlds Apart and fully embraced on Heads Or Tales is the one they have kept at ever since, and it does nothing for me. I've tried so many times to give the other albums a chance but every time I am left disappointed. I guess they're just not my thing anymore. At least I can still listen to the first four albums (especially the first three).

    • They embraced very different sounds after Heads Or Tales and before House Of Cards. Not one album sounds the same from the 85/97 era, you really should check them out. But yes, from House of Cards, and even more after Marathon, all the albums where produced in the same way, maybe it was a choice, but more possibly : because there was no new big synth or recording technique to play with. You have to remember that from 1978 until 2000 Saga was a bunch of music geeks that fully embraced/pioneered every new technology available (new Moogs,Simmons electronic drums, midi, pcm synths, digital recording...) so after the 2000's there was nothing really new (except 5.1 which they did on Network) tech-wise

    • @@pilotfish4171 They may vary slightly in style but you have to be a real Saga-fan of their later period to appreciate these nuances - to the casual listener they definitely operate within the same style/sound, just like any death metal band sounds the same to an "outsider" of the genre. I simply just find that I am not a fan of the music Saga produces past "Worlds Apart" (and yes, I have listened to most of their albums and even bought a few based on good reviews, only to be disappointed) - it is all subjective, obviously, so if you love it, there is nothing wrong with that, I just much prefer their original sound where they used a fuller keyboard sound and were more uniquely sounding. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what the change was, but their way of writing songs and the way they use keyboards changed during "Worlds Apart" and certainly after (probably, as you mention, they discovered some new tools that they fell in love with), and they have never returned to that unique sound again and to me, that's where my love for the band stops.
