Connor Bedard is on track to have one of the best rookie seasons of the modern era in the NHL. In today's video, I break down the film and analyse the elements of his game that's allowing him dominate the Chel already at just 18 years old.

  • He's a special talent for sure. Even Matthews and Ovi were 19 when they started whereas Bedard is a very young 18 (july). The Hawks roster is arguably one of the worst ever outside of Bedard as well, which makes what hes doing particularly impressive.

  • A lot of opinions on this but the smallest one stood out for me. Someone wrote that Beddard got them watching hockey again and that is the most impressive one. Today's cookie cutter hockey all looks the same with practically every team. The rinks are too small because the players are bigger, and faster and more talented. The NHL needs bigger ice surfaces so fans can appreciate the play making or as Orr once said, put the centre line back in play for off sides.

  • As a current "pick up' goalie I would like to say what the Florida goalie in the first clip was trying to do. as a goalie you play the odds. you look for clues, and if you can correctly guess what a player will do, you can make the the save. Now most players wont shoot that sharp angle shot(most, C. B. is built different) so what I would have done is drop my right leg down (not the leg on the post). reach my stick out for a pokecheck, or blocking a pass out front. here I am playing the odds, I am betting on him not to shoot the sharp angle because I have the post hugged and my "five hole" covered for the most part. I want him to have to lift a pass over my stick where again I am playing the odds that if it goes over my stick it goes over his team mates stick. I am taking away his options to pass and expecting him not to shoot. So where does he go? Behind the net to try to make the pass again but this time from the other side. I am ready for this because I kept my leg up on the post for this exact reason, to push across to the other post where I again play the odds of a player not going for the sharp angle shot. he will need to make a pass out front and now I have given my team time to take away the man out front. C. B. scored because before the florida goalie could even get set up on the post or get his stick flat he roofed the damn thing right passed the goalies ear. C. B. is simply built different. where mcdavid is simply so fast at decision making, C. B. can simply do what players haven't even tried consistently for almost ever.

  • What’s crazy is, he’s kind of in a slump rn. His slump is better than the other rookies by far…the team around him is so infuriatingly bad, I can’t imagine how frustrated he is. Davidson did him NO favors even before we lost everyone to injury. He leads the team in points as a newly 18 year old kid and every time he touches the puck, he’s surrounded by 4 defenders bc he’s all the opposing defense has to worry about. If he had Kane and Toews with him, he’d be over a point per game…I’ll never understand why Davidson wouldn’t bring them back

    • I say he's top 10 when it's all said and done and probably could challenge for top 5. But, he's not prime Gretkzy or prime Lemieux. There's also Howe and Orr. Lemieux just hung onto the puck and skated around everybody and by far the best stick handler of all time. Lemieux was the most talented player ever and yet, he's still not the best player ever. That honor goes to Gretzky (and you can argue for Orr too). McDavid is not the best player anyone's ever seen. He hasn't taken his team past even a conference finals yet. You can argue it's the team around him, but players like Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr and Howe still took their teams to cup wins or even cup finals without great teams around them.

      @baiqi44@baiqi445 ай бұрын
    • @@baiqi44you obviously dont know hack shit about hockey if you think that both gretz and Mario didn't have great teams around them. Gretz had messier, Coffey, Fure, Kurri, Lowe. Mario had Jagr, also Coffey, Recchi, Trottier, Zelapski. The teams had alot of depth players around the star players. They definitely didn't win alone.

      @joeshmow1583@joeshmow15835 ай бұрын
    • @@joeshmow1583 Where did I say Gretzky and Lemieux didn't have great teams around them? Seems like to jumped to conclusions and don't actually comprehend what you read. Seems like you don't know much about 80's/90's hockey if you think Gretzky and Lemieux always had great linemates/teams around them. Lemieux turned Dan Quinn, Rob Brown, etc... into 90+ and 100+ point players. Gretzky took a not so good Kings team to the finals and turned Nicholls into a 70 goal scorer. I've watched hockey since the 80's and watched both Lemieux and Gretzky in their primes. You think both players had great teams around them every single season? Yeah, the 80's Oilers were dominant and won a cup without Gretzky. But, you think Gretzky and Lemieux had great teams around them every single season? You don't seemed to remember or realized that Lemieux started on a horrible team and turned average players into all-stars (because he made them better) and turned the Penguins into contenders. The 92 Penguins cup team wouldn't even get pass the 1st round without Lemieux. Sure, there's some future HOFs on that team and a not closed to his prime Jagr on it, but Lemieux was the main reason that team got past Washington. Gretzky was surrounded by a great team to begin with, but then he went to LA and turned that average team into cup contenders. Don't make assumptions about others' hockey knowledge when you don't look at all the details. Also, read what I said carefully. I said Lemieux, Howe, Orr and or Gretzky took teams to the cup finals "without great teams around them". So you jumped to the stupid conclusion that I don't know hockey because in your mind, I said Gretzky and Lemieux never had great teams around them. That's what you said of me saying, not what I said. Anyone who turns to cussing right away in an argument is someone that doesn't really have many brain cells to begin with.

  • Well I would not say never, but he is freaky good. I do see huge risk with him getting injured diving too reckless into clean tackles and getting flattened. Hope that risk won't materialize. Kid will be in hall of fame. And then again players have bit different skill sets. And bit early to compare to the greats. Not fan of oilers or McJesus, but only active player who in compares I think is Crosby and not fan of him or Penguins either. That is what comes to superstars. And then Barkov shuts any and all of them down.
