Panarin looking back at geo after the goal was all I needed...and mikas stare down of the avs bench after the goal cause of the tussle with makar

He also moved backwards. I may be a Rangers fan, but that was CLEARLY violating the forward progress stipulation for penalty shots/shootouts. He is certainly not alone in doing this. Shootout attempts are getting ridiculous with the dancing that are going on. But this one was one of the clearer backwards moves I've seen. Trocheck's shot was as well.

@@FUGP72 84.4 Shootout -The rules governing the shootout shall be the same as those listed under Rule 24 - Penalty Shot. 24.2 Procedure - The Referee shall have announced over the public address system the player designated by him or selected by the team entitled to take the shot (as appropriate). He shall then place the puck on the center face-off spot and the player taking the shot will, on the instruction of the Referee (by blowing his whistle), play the puck from there and shall attempt to score on the goalkeeper. The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent’s goal line and once it is shot, the play shall be considered complete.

Rough. Don't know if I would have put Compher out for that. But Shesterkin was just having a great game. As soon as it went to a shootout I knew the odds were agains the Avs. Georgiev has been great for them, but Shesterkin has the edge in one-on-one for sure.

I am a Rangers fan but shootouts are getting ridiculous. Panarin very clearly moved backwards at the end. They need to start enforcing the forward progress rule in shootouts and penalty shots. Or maybe get rid of it altogether but add a shot clock. that would allow players to try a wraparound if they are fast enough.

Players can move backwards as long as the puck maintains forward momentum towards the goal line. Spinoramas are not allowed but there’s nothing in the rules that say the skater can’t move backwards.
