One on one soldier Tug of War, Canada vs USA
Prior to the departure of 31 Canadian Brigade Group (31 CBG) personnel from Camp Atterbury, Indiana, Canadian soldiers observed US National Guard soldiers playing an interesting version of the game Tug of War. 31 CBG soldiers were fascinated by the spectacle and cheered on the competitors. Finally, one young Canadian soldier dared to challenge the hometown crowd, and put national pride on the line. In this video, Master Corporal John Celestino of the Windsor Regiment (left), participates in a game of Tug of War with a US National Guard soldier (right). This version of the game builds esprit de corps and really works the leg muscles...just ask Master Corporal Celestino!
Nearly 300 reserve soldiers from 31 Canadian Brigade Group, the formation of army units in South-western Ontario, trained at the Indiana National Guard training centers at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center (near Edinburgh, Indiana) and Muscatatuck Urban Training Center (near Butlerville, Indiana) from March 10 to 17, 2012. The exercise began with preparation training at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center, leading to a large-scale helicopter deployment and ground assault at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center.
Army Reservists train part-time throughout the year while maintaining civilian careers or attending school. Many took time off from work or studies to attend the exercise. Some on this exercise have served previously overseas, bringing a wealth of real-world experience to Exercise ARROWHEAD LIGHTNING 2012.

"Like" 31 Canadian Brigade Group on facebook.
Canadian guy has hockey legs.
If I was there I could have lost faster.
lmao this game looks hilarious, they keep stepping back right into each others boots
After that. he apologized for beating him.
the americans face was as red as our flag.
this is the way all military's should resolve disputes.
Love our Canadian/American relationship. Even when we win it's all smiles and pats on the back. Friends forever.
lol, looks like they're all friends.. good to see comradery between the u.s and canada
Lawl at their heads instantly turning Red
Good pull boys, I was more surprised the strap held than I was that either soldier won.
Why is everyone debating and arguing I think this is kind of cute and fun.
Yeah we are fighting on the same side people. So enough with the who's better. They did this for fun.
"Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners. And necessity has made us allies. Those whom nature hath so joined together, let no man put asunder. What unites us is far greater than what divides us." -John F. Kennedy
I'm Canadian and I love our US neighbours, so happy and proud that both of our countries are fighting the 'good fight' side by side.
I keep leaning my head to the left while watching this video
All i can hear is "MURICA!"
I come back to watch this every so often, and it makes me smile every time. Lost of fun to watch them competing and having fun.
Wow guys, relax. This isn't a war, it's two people having some fun while a couple others watch. Who cares what country they are from, all the people in this video are clearly friendly with each other.
yes but if they had a tims coffee it would have ended before the coutdown.
I thought this was all in good fun! Then I read the comments :/
This could be the answer to all our problems, issues, and disputes... settle this with a nice friendly game of tug of war!
Good ole fun, why all ya'll making this into an argument? Who cares who is better, we always have each others back no matter what. Ask any of our boys who served over seas, they loved fighting alongside the Canadians and Im sure the Canadians will say the same.
Man this was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time
I'm glad to have our Canadian brothers at our side. I don't understand these arguments, I'm sure that both of us would help each other through thick and thin, well, at least I would. Now that that's said, I will throw out the fact that the US did start getting tired at the end most likely from all of the gear, but still it was an pretty even match.
and the other is full of Canadians.
Put er' in four low lol
0:01 " 'MERICA!!"
lmao this is how disputes should always be handled :P No violence, just plain good fun.
That guy is a National Hero right there!
A group of guys having a friendly competition with each other before giving their service with each other HAS to, of course, turn into a crap-slinging fest as soon as it hits the internet. Great going, KZhead.
I love how people who are not in the military judge the military the most and try to say who's military is the best. It's so hilarious. You can't compare. Both militarires have their strong points and their weak points. Both militaries have their strong fighters and their weak fighters and we are both in Afghanistan and were in Iraq fighting together against the same enemy.
To all the people complaining about the American gear come off it that gear would give him extra leverage and also more weight for the Canadian to pull with boots with no thread so I'd say it was even
they both look red in the face from struggling, lol just know that one solider's performance vs another one does not make either or better, you shouldn't base a large amount of people on a single person's or few person's experience & performance
best 2 of 3 ahhahahah
Canada and The United States of America. Two nations that share a single border, a common language, and have been allies with each other since World War II. God Bless America and God Bless Canada. May the friendship between these two great countries last for all time.
0:00 - AMERICA!
i love seeing this kind of stuff on the internet, it just shows how we dont care where people are from, its fair game in the end, every one showed great sportsmanship and they all had a laugh out of it! This kind of stuff unites people
I'm American and it actually makes me happy that joint forces can have some fun competing against each other
love how at the start to the canada was smiling and laughing and the American was being so serious.
I swear, Maple Syrup changes you.
I'm proud of both of these men.. they represent our countries well, and they both worked there best in this game.. War is not a game. Be thankful they can enjoy these moments... God bless our men and women that stand for freedom and safety.
Speaking as a Canadian serviceman, I was happy to see they both shook hands at the end. Nothing like locking horns and still being comrades at the end of the day. They certainly gave each other a run for their money too!
The beginning of the video. "Amurica", priceless.... lol
He had a vest on that makes him heavier
As a non-american, I spent the entire time watching, smiling and thinking, "I have no idea which one is Canada and which one is USA"
Less: "[Country] is the best!" More: Camaraderie!
We are tough and we know the difference between they're, there and their!! But don't worry, we will still stand by your country when you need us to.
I was so hoping the link would break and they'd both face plant.
It makes me so happy to see soldiers from different nations pal around.
Great to see they're having some fun out there, and getting along with their comrades. Much respect to both militaries.
You know what I like? All of them are happy and having fun. Yayyy
Canada and The United States of America. May the alliance between these two amazing nations last for all time
let this simple tug of war being the deciding factor between greater nations .. GO!
"hey best two outta three!" best part lol.
I like how the American undoing the harnesses at the end had a Canadian flag on his arm. If they aren't fighting, why are we?
who cares about whos "best" it's all about respect and they showed it at the end of the video
I love how the American was so intense before it started and the Canadian was just laughing and joking. Nice win Canada. Nice win.
looked to me that they were a pretty even match and could have gone either way, I just think it is great that the two countries work together and train together. Ask just about anyone in the service from either country and they have the utmost respect for each other.
That was a battle of cardio and will
Good to see our troops having fun!
Hey, hey, calm down neighbour to the south, this is just for fun! We're practically siblings! ~From a fellow Canadian.
proud of Canadian army
Nice to see some friendly competition
Wow that must have been one hell of a workout!
I was inadvertently leaning to the left the entire time!
Did anyone else here the Canadian at 3:00 say "Let's go smoke pot" HAHAHA Classic
That was actually pretty awesome.
Wow, I tensed up watching that. Nice struggle by both competitors... but way to go Canada.
I would like to put a end to all the arguments, as a Canadian soldier, Americans are our closest allies and I love working with them. Your guys are definitely some of the best soldiers. This was not a contest to determine who is better, it was a friendly competition...They shake hands at the end.
This is better than war, and it's more amusing.
Brought tears of pride to my eyes. Go Canada!!
somebody's jealous...
Seems pretty even. To be fair though, it seems the US soldier had more equipment and a gun. I'm Canadian.
Lol, never been so proud ;0) Way to go!
Good clean fun between brothers that's what I like to see.
HEY!!! I PLAYED FOOTBALL WITH CELESTINO AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WINDSOR, LANCER PRIDE BABY, WAY TO MAKE CANADA PROUD, HOW YOUR STAYING SAFE BRO!! much love, Hart
Greatest. Tug of War. Ever. Go Canada and U.S.A.!
I love how some of you try to pinpoint disadvantages. Seriously? This was a friendly match between two allies that have nothing but respect for each other. Win or lose, it is an awesome video, don't be so critical.
you are totally right!
@jchiapet LOL I'm Canadian and I find that hilarious!
brothers in arms, greeting from Vancouver!
But grip is creativity...and creativity is knowledge...and knowledge is power...and power is strength. Go Canada!
Determination. That is what we have that makes us who we are as Canadians.
Canada won cause we gotta trudge through snow 8 months out of the year. It simply makes you more hardcore.
when you're fighting a war, you don't want brighter!
Waiting for someone to win...the tension is killing me.
Hey that aint cool man. Im from America and I have the highest respect for our military as well as Canada's. Their brothers in arms, no need to degrade one another.
That was fun to watch. Felt like cheering him on through my screen. Hilarious how red their faces went.
Tremendous effort by both soliders. Glad to see our Canadian guy came out on top, but he fought for every inch. Glad we are allies with the US!
WHEW Canada won! Props to the American though, he pushed to the very end :)
my god, that looks like so much fun
ME on computer : "CANADA!!! CANADA!!!!!!! CANADAAAAAAAA!"
Soldiers having a good time :)
for all the haters this was a frendly competition both sides arent enemys if you want to complain and hate go find a video of a american soldier tug of war vs a iraqy soldier
was anyone else tensing their body while watching this...just got a workout it was so close
Yes good sport for a long lasting rivalry!
This really depicts a lot of aspects of both the Canadian and American armies. The Canadian soldier seems to be a lot less equipped (and we don't have the technology the US has), but we seem to be a lot better trained (even though we are less in number) For the actual Tug of war, great job! :D
Well done to both participants.... found this vid with my buddy. Just won 20$.thanks :)
Like a BOSS.
I think what we all need to see here is how American and Canadian soldiers are working together and enjoying working hand and hand. Sadly many Americans still have no idea that Canada has fought with them over seas for over a decade in the Middle East.
