I’m so glad he shared the story, because it’s not always women who have the fertility issues!
Between 2 people i guess it's a 50-50 chance
Exactly! but back in the day, they use to think it was the only women's fault.
Yes it was a brave one to tell too, good on him for sharing something so private and difficult
My dad told everyone its his issue but its actually my moms. So it’s really 50-50 between them, we’ll never know. It’s good for Hasan to claim it though, regardless
I think Jimmy talked twice. Hasan was like "Don't worry bro, I've spent a year working on a five minute standup routine about my balls"
RIGHT!!! lmaooo
@@xoxodrea123 Just went to his new show. It was great, but I'm glad I didn't watch this beforehand. Exact same content.
This actually was part of his comedy show that he's doing on his tour
Went to his show. Felt like I had heard at least 10% of the content before but it was still very solid.
A comedian who repeats his comedy bits? Shocking!! (jeezus - where have you people been?)
A DO is a fully qualified doctor. My son had a vericocele and I got it fixed when he was about 10. 2 kids!
We just learned about vericoceles in med school! Glad your son is doing well.
They are qualified, just the RC Cola of doctors.
@@shelleyinthecity do your research. DOs go through virtually the same schooling , training as MD. They have additional training in some areas.
@@lorrie2878 What Minhaj said was not wrong. His main point was that they have lower MCAT scores than the MD schools. That is a fact. A good chunk of people end up in DO schools because they didn't do well enough on the MCAT to get in to MD schools. Stop trying to ignore the main point of what Minhaj said, which sorry, you can not dispute. Very few, if any DO go there as their first choice. They typically apply to MD schools too, but can not get in due to low grades or MCAT scores.
I respect them as doctors. RC Cola tastes great.
He never said DO's are stupid, he said this particular DO (who happened to fail out of Caribbean med school twice--again his words) wasn't the best experience for him. Also he literally thanked DOs afterwards.
I get the comedy but M.D.s and D.O.s are indentically licenced and their med school training is almost identical. The quality of their care comes down to individual differences, not from how they were trained.
The story put DOs in positive light. He literally had a DO do surgery on his balls. That requires trust.
@@Sfren5336 D.O.s can do anything and everything an M.D.s do. They are taught the same information with the D.O.s learning OMM as extra.
That RC cola thing hurt.
I was ready to type the same thing..so proud of Hasan and love the dude! but was a little disappointed in the analogy. We all the same #EndMDvsDO
@@pscod3842 so true, as someone trained in allopathic medicine, I definitely envy the OMM training!
Serious note, I adore Hasan and I am so glad he talked about a serious issue and how men are affected by infertility. He did so on a popular talk show and did it in a smooth way, but also I got a gripe with him dogging DOs for a hot minute, though he thanked them at the end. 1. It's very rare to fail Caribbean medical school, then get accepted to a US medical school (MD or DO). 2. DO medical school is the *EXACT* same as MD medical school with the same entrance exams, prerequisites, and the same residency (medical training) after medical school. DO programs just tack on 200 hours of OMM/OMT, which is spinal manipulation techniques. Most DOs don't use OMM/OMT. The stigma has been DOs are less than MDs, when they're not. The stigma is slowly fading, but Hasan just reignited it. SMH. I am glad a DO helped him become a dad again.
DO schools generally have lower entrance requirements though. They aren't nearly as competitive as MD schools. Other than that they are the same in the end.
@@jasonb4254 Ehhhh they're still really competitive though. I mean if you want to get into didactics of it, medical school is extremely competitive no matter how you cut it.
@@jasonb4254 just to comment on entrance requirements... DO schools also tend to take more non-traditional students -- you can't really assume competence/how good a doc is just based on entrance requirements (gpa/mcat/research)
Thank you articulating this so elegantly. This is so true
@@jasonb4254 lol my med school had an acceptance rate in the single digits last year (4-5%). Yes, avg stats are a little lower bc of a large non-traditional student body but not super far off from MD schools.

That’s his forte
His stand up special Homecoming King is phenomenal, and filled with serious and dark topics, but also absolutely hilarious. Check it out!
The bit was great until he brought in the DO stuff. I think he thought it was not a large focus of the joke about a doctor he personally knows. But the generalization was very dumb and irrelevant to the bit. Could have done without it.
This is so hurtful and just adds to the stigma against DO’s. There is no war between us and MD’s, we are colleagues and equals, any MD you ask will tell you that. There are 2 physician licenses available in the US, that is MD and DO. We have the same curriculum/training with an additional 400+ training hours in manipulative techniques. We take the same board licensing exams and our residencies are now joined. This is so disappointing
My god I thought our community was tougher than this. Just relax, nothing is gonna happen to the field. DO, MD, we know it doesn’t matter, no one gives a shit what a comedian thinks. It’s funny and I’m pre-DO. Aren’t you emotionally dead enough to not care about things like this by now? Lol
@@schmo2109 why are you telling everyone who calls out the DO comment to chill? It was disrespectful and disappointing of him, nothing wrong in calling it out. And I’m still a fan of Hasan. And I’m an MD student but I still care

2:34 for those who came to hear the M.D. vs D.O. comment. As someone who is an M.D. student, the distinction between M.D. and D.O. is meaningless. I'm glad a D.O. was able to successfully treat his infertility. Also as a side note, the best doctor I ever met in the hospital was a D.O. who wore crocs and I never once saw him wear socks. So be careful how you judge someone.
I came here specifically for Hasan Minhaj. Was not disappointed.

This dude was AMAZING on Patriot Act, so sad Netflix shut him down
But perhaps his new friends at Apple TV + and Jon Stewart can get it started again. I miss Patriot Act too. Hasan is a funny and brilliant man.
Hasan Minaj said CAA (Indian law) is for all Muslims, of all nations of all times. The truth is CAA is for persecuted minorities of colonial India, who had to free extreme Islamic societies with a cut off year. It only fast tracks their citizenship by few years. It doesnt curb regular citizenship of Muslims from anywhere. It was a 20 minute segment, so clearly it was deliberate and not omission by time. On the contrary, most Muslim nations do not give citizenship to non Muslims. Hasan doesnt give you the truth. He gives you the Muslim point of view.

I'm an MD working at a teaching hospital that mostly employs DO attendings and DO residents, while taking on DO medical students. If there's a war going on between allopathic and osteopathic physicians, I'm not seeing it. The other doctors take great care of their patients and are a pleasure to work with. The board exams that certify a physician in a particular specialty don't care if you're an MD or a DO; we all take the same ones. I like Hasan, and empathize with his story, but the training that DOs go through to heal the sick deserves better than this.
100% agree!
I did not sacrifice most of my twenties + survive grueling med school + get 300k medical student loans + paid to train in hospitals during a pandemic including ICUs full of COVID + got infected at work and isolated myself from family and friends for so many months to get compared to fake coke..
MDs=DOs wtf is wrong with him
Guys, listen. Hasan doesn’t know a thing about your life, and this joke wasn’t directed towards you. Nor is it meant to be taken seriously, which is what you are doing. From the moment he started talking he wasn’t being serious. Comedy is comedy because it is not meant to be taken seriously. You can say anything ABOUT anything and it doesn’t have to be your actual opinion, or even be true. It’s just jokes. I don’t understand why you are so offended like you think Hasan REALLY doesnt respect DO’s. Why would he let this guy do this procedure if he didn’t actually respect him? It’s a joke. How do you know if this even actually happened? It doesn’t matter, because it’s a JOKE. If Hasan made a serious statement denouncing DO’s I would understand why you are offended. But he’s literally doing comedy here. If you can’t learn the difference you will never laugh at comedy and always be offended. Sounds like a miserable way to live.

It was a joke bruh
Worst comparison of DO and MD, another example of media not know jack. Also the Caribbean schools are MD so what does that tell you.
The guy honestly doesn't understand what both pathways go through (MD and DO). Appreciates the doc who helped him through his struggle but then craps all over the docs struggle to become licensed. This guy has always tried too hard and he pretty much fell on his face this time!

You should educate yourself on the real differences between Osteopathic and Allopathic physicians, but more importantly how DOs and MDs have equal foundations of education. That does not mean there is a war, it means that there is ignorance, which is unfortunate in a time when all physicians have been through the most trying time of their lives over the last 1.5 years. Signed, a very proud DO (and they are GREAT letters)
Very well said!! I'm at an allopathic school, and my summer lab partner from an Osteopathic school was brilliant (just like his many collegues)! I hope this comment section sparks some important conversations and all the best to you as you practice in these crazy times.

I get that this is comedy but perpetuating the stereotype that D.O's are less qualified than M.D's is dangerous and can disrupt the livelihoods and professional careers of so many D.O. doctors. As an MD, there is no war between DOs and MDs. DOs are qualified physicians. The real war is between the physicians and the midlevels (NPs, PAs) where the quality and quantity of medical training difference is massive, yet midlevels demand more independent practice despite their roles being specifically designed to assist the physician. Midlevels need to know their place. If you want more independence, go to medical school
@@indianchika123 PA training is much more reliable than NP training. Yes, we still need PAs for basic cases, but it starts to become an issue when they demand to practice without supervision of an MD or DO. Then we will see malpractice go up
@@ShowTheOreo PA's dont have the same lobbying as NP's so that most likely will never happen but please don't group us together because the training is much more rigorous and to even get in to PA school it self is a feat of it's own so no need to undermine the career.
I wish he had used his platform to bring light to what you just pointed out: people playing doctor when they haven’t been sufficiently trained to practice independently. It’s just dangerous. Caribbean medical schools require lower stats than any given US medical college, MD or DO. I really miss Patriot Act
You're the first person in the comments not talking about M.D.s and D.O.s
The one comment about DOs just ruins the whole interview for me. It wasnt a funny joke. Its inaccurate. And its potentially damaging to existing and future doctor-patient relationships. It’s obvious he didn’t bother looking up the difference and just perpetuated stereotypes that are pretty outdated now. I’m a fan but this is really disappointing. When it comes down to it, patients have never cared about MD or DO. They only care about “Dr.”
I love D.Os!!
Hasan, go D.O. a full research about osteopathics (DOs) versus allopathics (MDs) before you start making strong ignorant comments on a big show like The Tonight Show. Educate yourself!! just because your DOctor wears Jordans, it doesn't make him any less of a DOctor and just because he's a DO, it also doesn't make him a less qualified DOctor. Yes, your story is actually really funny and I enjoyed it, but not the part where you downplayed our DOs after spending 8+ years and tons of money in training. it is simple, just take a minute out of your valuable time and D.O. an accurate research about it, instead of getting influenced and biased by social media telling you about the non-existent "war that's going on in the medical community". MDs or DOs, they're both D.O.ing it and saving lives. P.S. the DO schools must have been doing something good since your DO doctor saved your marriage and sperms! Thanks for the "shoutout" at the end.
I know it’s comedy and I love this guy but DOs are exactly as qualified as MDs, saying they’re the “RC cola” of medicine could not be further from the truth.
That's exactly what a DO would say.
No
He wasn't there to speak the TRUTH.
DOs actually require more hours of education.
@@iKone911 Because they gotta make up for their low mcat scores.
No, there's not a war. There's ignorance masquerading as a "war". You're a naturally funny guy, Hasan - you don't need to disrespect doctors for laughs. Do better.

Jimmy is speechless since Hassan talks so interestingly......
I love Hasan Minhaj but from his comment of DOs, he is no better than people he complains about. Also can someone actually find that doctor online cause I really want to know what their qualifications were since a two times caribbean drop out DO physician does not make sense.
I’ve never been more invested in a story about a man’s balls in my entire life…….this man takes storytelling to another level.
I used to love Hasan's points but degrading DOs in a pandemic time like this where all healthcare workers risk their lives and time everyday to treat people, it's just sad and pathetic to see a comedian I used to respect now confidently spread misinformation. Cannot imagine how the doctor who successfully treated him feels after Hasan just turned the man's whole career into a joke. Also, there are plenty of MD and DO doctors who support each other, so this so called "war" is also part of the misinformation that Hasan adamantly generalized. Ignoring hard work, and making fun of any healthcare worker, then at the end simply saying "haha shout out to the DOs" is so problematic. It is already sad that people who do more and learn additional treatment techniques are stigmatized as "not good enough." I hope at least Hasan's child can show him how to respect all healthcare workers properly without saying one title is less than the other.
O God, it’s a JOKE and he is an COMEDIAN,people really need chill out
We're at an era where misinformation leads to serious consequences (look at misinformation regarding vaccinations that some antis believe). And how about we don't make jokes at the expense of health care workers, especially these days. I appreciate him shedding light on men also having fertility issues, but he could have done that without degrading DOs. He is A* COMEDIAN and I have found most of his other content funny/entertaining. But also as a public figure who has a platform that reaches many people globally, and as someone who's so aware of so many various issues, he should have been more considerate with this one. I don't hate Hasan, but I wish he apologized to the DO community and made himself more aware on this. People really need to be less ignorant.
@@chaminiwelikala82 I think people take it more seriously when a prez spreads mis info rather than a comedian
People need to relax, it’s a joke. Plus, all my friends that are DO couldn’t get admission into an MD school….so, Hassan is probably not far from the truth 😂
@@markk9586 Maybe that's just your friends because there are also people who even get into both MD and DO schools (or only apply to DO schools) because they actually believe in the osteopathic practice and CHOOSE to go to DO schools. Let's not degrade DOs even more SOLELY by people's friends' performances because they do not represent the experiences all the DOs in America.
I’m very disappointed in Hassan. Not a doctor but even I know that there’s no need to create a division among amazing physicians who try to help people. You should know better and educate yourself in that matter.
and not use it as comedy
@@lotusgrl444 Yea i agree dont use it in comedy. I think Kim Yong Un was right banning Comedy in his country!!!
For those of you saying he should be grateful to his DO doctor for helping him with his fertility...... *that's the whole point of this monologue!* He is saying that he thought of DOs as an off brand doctor but in the end, it was a DO that came through and helped him out. He thanks the DOs at the end and yes he is throwing shade at the fact that DO admission is easier than MD admission...but that's kind of true. The whole point is him trying to say that DOs are just as well trained and capable as the MDs and acknowledging that they are off brand and it's easier to become one. I don't see any misinformation. I think it depend on perspective. If you watch the video from this perspective you will see that he is praising DOs...like a backhanded compliment but nevertheless a compliment!
How are they "off brand" if you just said that they're just as good?
@@rajkaranvirk7525 They are just as good, well trained and knowledgeable...but usually the degree that the public or average Joe recognizes and knows about is the MD degree so in that sense it's an off brand. An "off brand" just means a product that was built off of the original and is slightly different. It doesn't refer to the quality of the product. An "off brand" just means it is less familiar than the popular brand and usually not the first pick. I think the only part where he took the joke too far and insulted a large group of people was when he said that his friend failed the Caribbean twice and then became a DO doctor. Becoming a DO is not easier than entering a Caribbean med school, its about the same level or even harder in terms of competitiveness. He could have acknowledged that DOs get the same training as MDs, take the same tests, require higher board scores for the same residencies and eventually practice at the same hospitals. BUT It's not his job to campaign for DOs or serve as an advocate for osteopathic medicine! IT'S JUST A JOKE.....and the punch line is that "the off brand doc saved the day and he loves these off brand doctors"
Did not appreciate the insulting comments towards DOs. Not a funny joke at all...
#cancelhassan.... *swigs*
well at the end he admit losing to his statement and gives shout to to DOs, soo....
I agree, funny or nort, it's stil a Joke!!!
There's no such thing as a Caribbean DO school. Incredibly sad and misguided attempt at comedy, especially given how diligently all healthcare professionals have had to work during the pandemic. DO physicians are just as hardworking, selfless, and competent as MDs in America. Try again... or rather, don't.
He was probably in a Caribbean MD school then failed. And he later applied to DO and went there instead. At least that's the way I interpreted it.
@@aahsimovieprojects not possible drew dear

@@speeddash4979 spreading false information about medicine in a time when healthcare workers are already struggling to fight pervasive misinformation isn't comedy. It's just an extra hurdle for us to deal with that we don't have time for. There are better ways to be funny.
@@aahsimovieprojects We would all be hard-pressed to find an American medical school (regardless of degree) that would care for an applicant who failed out of an international med school, especially twice. If your DO got into a competitive residency like urology from med school he ain’t no dummy
MD here, DO's are not off brand physicians. They are valued members of the team and have considerable and equivalent training. In a time where poorly trained non physicians providers abound without supervision please don't throw shade on those that actually sacrifice their time to provide the best care for patients.

This is very disappointing. D.Os are certified in all 50 states and arguably go through twice as much training as M.Ds. Also, D.Os don't go to Caribbean medical schools. They go to medical school in the United States. Unbelievably disrespectful to people who work their whole lives to become physicians to only be stripped of their credibility in 5 seconds. People, please, DO NOT assume that D.Os are in any way shape or form less qualified than M.Ds.

@@LilRAPNIK go through the rigors of medical school and residency. Maybe the “joke” and it’s harmful implications will make more sense to you then. I suspect he will do the right thing and issue a statement about it
@@mrmomo313 No man, seriously, Hasan doesn’t know a thing about your life and this joke wasn’t directed towards you. Nor is it meant to be taken seriously, which is what you are doing.
@@LilRAPNIK the time you used to type up this whole essay on why DO’s should lighten up could’ve been used to educate yourself even just a tiny bit about the stigma that DO’s face in the medical community. Sure, Hasan is joking about DO’s being shit versions of MDs, but are people that listen to him and follow him going to see it the same way? They’re gonna have this stigma implanted in their minds that DOs are inferior to MDs. This only worsens the discrimination that DO’s already face. Not to mention it’s just fucking hurtful to see someone you follow and enjoy watching shit on the career that you spent 12 years of your life building like this. It’s really not nice being the butt end of a joke in a topic that hits so close to home. Imagine someone joking about your grandma dying, it’s the same fucking feeling. Empathize a little bro.
@@caption777 people have made jokes about death before. The difference between being hurtful and joking is intent and direction. If he looked at me, knowing my story, and joked about my grandma dying, that would be hurtful. If he just joked about grandmas dying that is not hurtful because it’s not ABOUT me, no matter how much I may or may not empathize with the topic. He’s not directing this towards you and especially not with the intent of hurting you. Everyone is the butt of a joke at some point. If you can’t joke about anyone or anything important to anyone then you can’t joke about ANYTHING. Not to mention: I don’t think Hasan has the power, reach, or influence you think he does. Even so, he’s a comedian, and his fans know (or should know) that. That’s why people like Dave Chapelle still have fans even though he makes jokes about tough subjects. He made a joke about the LGBTQ+ community. You think that made people hate that community? No dude. We know it’s a joke. Not his real opinion, and not even necessarily true. I will be honest: the only part of late night I have ever really enjoyed has been the comedy. Thanks. Thanks a lot. I'm a DO physician. I have the exact same training as an MD. One of my classmates is a surgeon at HUP, one the most prestigious hospitals in this country. I have been a Covid doctor for much the past year, suffering the daily torment of desperately saving people's lives, at the risk of my own before vaccination.
I love that he jumped straight into his fertility story. And so good to share that men face facility issues too. Happy for him and his wife :)
I’m a DO and it’s the exact same qualifications as an MD but we do MORE in our four years of medical school with osteopathic training. So imagine learning everything and MD learns plus osteopathy in the same time limit. We do the same residency and there’s no difference between the two. shame on you Hassan for bashing a whole profession and creating misinformation
So you're saying you're better trained than MDs?

He and many other comedians have made variety of jokes on variety of professions. Comedians make jokes on Pilots, Engineers, Astronauts, Artists, Teachers, Lawyers, Athletes, Scientists and all who dedicate their lives towards their profession, so what makes you think your profession shouldn't be made fun of or is immune to jokes and digs? WHAT? John Oliver might have received his MD at Johns Hopkins or Oxford but if you received a D.O. it was from Harvard or Yale. All top notch. I really hope I didn't accidentally put anyone down... just trying to say don't put yourself down when you're really great
Lol I get what you mean (and I also get what Hasan was trying to say) but the whole 'MD vs DO' stigma needs to be squashed. As someone who is finishing their last year in medical school and applying for residency next week, I'll go ahead and dispel any stigma that "MDs are better than DOs"--it's an antiquated and extremely disrespectful to every DO who goes through the EXACT level of rigor as an MD. In fact, I'd argue my DO counterparts know WAYYYY more anatomy than me because osteopathic medicine heavily emphasizes physical manipulation of muscle tissue and bones as part of their OMM training. All this to say, similar to MD/DO-- MD may have been the OG (John Oliver, Jon Stewart, etc..) but it paved the way for DO's like Hasan!! It's not any less of a prestige or privilege! We should all be grateful for BOTH!! So proud of you Hasan!! You out here doing yo thang!!
"Hot Monogamous Action " Is that what he tells Beena when he's in the mood
There is no war between MDs like myself and our DO counterparts. We are all physicians.
