DIY Hydro-Gear ZT-3100 oil change.

Hydro-Gear ZT-3100 oil change. It is recommended to change the oil after the first 75 hours, and then every 400 hours after that. This is a DIY step by step demonstrated on an Ariens Max Zoom 60” deck zero turn, but is a good how to for most Zero Turns and tractors using a Hydro-Gear ZT 3100.

  • I have the Gravely HD60 same hydro gears, but in this layout they used the top plugs ( not the side plugs like yours ) & it has individual reservoirs for each transmission. To get to that top plug you have to remove each rear wheel. Very easy to do this guys. I kept with all original Hydro gear oil & filter, figured who knows the product the best other then the guys who made it.

  • Thanks for the video. I just bought a new XT3 with the 3100s and was looking for the purge valve, there is a smaller bolt near top center of the inward face that's similar to yours and that must be it. There are no HS reservoirs on this unit, but there is an access hole in the top frame where you can see two bolts, one an irregular style which must be a breather I believe and the other a hex bolt in front, presumably for fill. I imagine the procedure must be the same except I will have to use a vacuum pump to slowly fill each tranny. At least it looks serviceable. I got some Amsoil Hydrostatic high-zinc fluid and ordered some of your filters you mentioned for the change. Thanks for the video man.

  • Good show! I have a 2015 Ferris IS700Z w/ZT-3200 hydro's. My manual says to use 20W-50 conventional non-synthetic oil. I'd like to use synthetic oil.

    • Thank you. Please make sure it is a high zinc content oil and life is good. VR1 is now available in synthetic as well. This is the specification sheet for the oil: sharena21.springcm.com/Public/Document/18452/ff44b91e-cb81-e711-9c10-ac162d889bd3/3207a799-e29c-e711-9c10-ac162d889bd3

  • Our gears where contaminated with water, we've removed the plastic fluid tank, and the oil filters,is there anyway to get the remaining oil out of the housing?

    @heraldcox6558@heraldcox6558 Жыл бұрын
    • You can try compressed air in the line that are connected to the plastic tank with the filters removed. But best bet is to change the oil, run it for one lawn mowing, and replace the oil while hot. Hope that helps.

  • Hate that you skipped showing how you accessed those hydro fill bolts. Had to take the wheels off mine to get near those.

    • Mine was different, I got to them from underneath, so I didn't skip anything.

  • not all t 3100's have vent plug in same place. wherever you find it, plan on a hard time getting to it. reefill, whether through vent plug or expansion tanks, try to find a way to to use a little pressure to do it. gravity through the expansion tanks will put you to sleep

    • @@justbehandy very good. I emailed hydro-gear to see if they had any input. I only use about 40 hours a year… Thanks for the video. I like how meticulous you are about maintaining your equipment.

    • Thank you for the kind words. Always take care of your stuff so it can take care of you when you need it. Nothing is more frustrating than equipment failure and having to work around it. Enjoy and God Bless.

  • My challenge is the fill hole. Please show pain of getting that off with an Allen wrench. Can’t get it off. Bent the Allen wrench. Tried a loosing fluid but to no avail. Any thoughts?

    • Mine was not a pain, came right off. Can you get an Allen socket on it and give the socket a few taps with a hammer, or use a manual impact that uses a hammer to knock it loose?

    • Cold chisel on the edge of the plug and spin it out.

    • Let us know how it goes. Only reason mine went slow was due to ambient temperature. It was around 35 deg F when I was pouring the heavy 20W-50 oil.

    • On my Scag walk behind I can’t get the plug out. Allen wrench plug. Went lefty loosen with some man size turns. Bent the wrench. Tried loosening agent but it won’t come out. Any thoughts?

    • Wow, are you able to put an Allen bit on a manual impact, the type that you use a hammer on to knock it loose?

    • Just fill the reservoir to the full mark, the plug I show is called the fill plug, and it's main purpose is to ensure you get all the air out. You will see oil start to drip out of the plug when you are at the proper level. Them close the plugs and completely fill the reservoir. Hope that helps.

    • Put your black mark on your filter on the bottom of the filter that way when you bring it around facing you it's easy to say that it's three-quarters of the way
