    • Good luck! I hope you get some watermelons. I ended up adding a third stake to each pot because the stakes I used ended up not begin as stable as I would have liked. The one I added to each container is a basic wooden stake and now they are much sturdier. In previous years I used two wooden stakes and that also worked well.

  • Love this video! I planted some sugar baby watermelons in my garden 2 years ago and they were growing beautifully. I would turn them every few days so they wouldn’t get too brown on one side. Imagine my surprise when I went to turn them and discovered the squirrels in my yard had scooped out all the pulp and had the nerve to turn them back over! I never thought about trying to plant them in a pot until I saw your video. I will definitely be planting watermelons again this year. Thank you so much!

    • michele33 S Put little bits of human hair or your dogs hair around the base of your plants steams and add a little water on top just so the hair doesn’t fly away.The hair smells like predators so they don’t come around. You will have to renew it every once in a while because the smell fades but it’s worked for me for years and the dog loves getting brushed more often. You can even get hair from barbers or hairdressers once they go back to work. Hope that helps.

Don’t get me wrong, the other people I follow are great, they have been very informative and have really helped me as a first time gardener, but other vids tend to be extremely lengthy and I don’t have time to watch multiple 20 minute videos per day to get tips on gardening techniques! • Can you sub irrigate those pots? Problem with the mix in the video is that it costs more for it than you get back from the watermelons it makes. It can take a whopping 120 days from seed to harvest too. Tomato cages (cheap ones) were actually meant for pepper plants.

  • If you take two tomato cages and weave the loose wires together - to form a long, skinny hourglass - you can double the height. Just put two long stakes in, like bamboo or rebar, and tie it all together. This works for any small space where you can go high, with any of your climbers, like tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.

  • I love that it's watermelon growing season for you, because I love watching your watermelon videos. I watch your Watermelon Growing playlist at least once a week. I'm growing Orangeglo, Ali Baba, Strawberry, Yellow Moon & Stars, Yamato Cream, and Early Moonbeam this year. I had a question: I harvested a couple of my heirloom watermelons last year, and they didn't taste so great(mostly growing conditions or picking too early, maybe overwatered before harvesting). I saved the seeds. My question is, will the seeds reflect the taste of that exact fruit? Or will it still have the same qualities as the original variety.

    @kuhpkeyk@kuhpkeyk4 жыл бұрын
    • They should have the original qualities of each individual variety if they didn't cross pollinate with other varieties. If you have a bunch of varieties growing together, the bees most definitely carried pollen between varieties. Thanks for watching! I want to try Strawberry watermelon sometime. I have been eyeing in for a few years.

      @ChristasGarden@ChristasGarden4 жыл бұрын
    • @@ChristasGarden Thats great to know! I'll label those seeds and save them. I have a ton of Strawberry Watermelon seeds, and would definitely send you some, let me know and Ill send those out. Do you have a special watering regime? I have sandy soil, so I water quite often. I read that you shouldn't water your watermelons as they're ripening though. So, when I notice they stop getting bigger, I should stop watering until the tendril is dead? Or stop watering as its growing? Would like to know what you do.
