This movie did not make sense... but ok! Barbie once again wins by doing completely different choreography and somehow that's great! woo! Even though her teacher probably spent months teaching her a specific routine... ok barbie!

  • As someone who learns ballet, this movie is both lovely and infuriating at the same time. Lovely because it gets more people to know ballet; infuriating because literally no one would just improvise onstage. One has to master all the skills and artistry in ballet first to be able to add one's own touch to the original choreography.

  • This movie is probably so chaotic as it is a mash-up of a couple famous ballets (such like Swan Lake, a bit Nutcracker, a lot of Giselle and I think at least some hints of Sleeping Beauty with a bit reference to Coppelia), also making use of two fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen adapted into ballet: The Snow Queen and The Red Shoes (title reference!), which could have inspired the kind of "Wizard of Oz" plot. "Giselle" is about a peasant girl who passionately loves dancing and after her heartbreak-death becomes one of the Willies, and together with these female ghosts, Giselle is supposed to force faithless men to dance with them until their death of exhaustion. The Red Shoes is also about a girl who is forced to keep on dancing until exhaustion. So, this is when Barbie tries to make a lighthearted version of these things. Just I wonder about the buckets...(;
