In England in 1988 I knew an 85 year old lady who upon the passing of her husband immediately went out and bought the 5.0 version in white to drive 12 miles once a week to buy cat-food! I still wonder if she did that because of the life insurance, or had he spent a lifetime holding her back? Bless you Mrs T, you were a legend. 🇬🇧🧐

Indeed, She was an unstoppable force and as sharp as a tack! There are so many characters from this time I wish I had photographed, buy years before the camera-phone I would have had to bring a REAL camera to work and ask her to pose, which I KNOW Mrs Taylor would have loved, because in her mind she was still a forces sweetheart and still 21. And you know what,...21 forever she will be. I have no idea what happened to the FILTHY pearl-white 928, because what I really loved about watching her car is that she NEVER washed it! This lady lived a life with two-fingers up at the world, and that is what we should ALL do. Respect ❤🇬🇧 @@rc8422

@@rc8422 All true! Here’s some background: I was well known in Northamptonshire back then as I had just opened a shop imaginatively called ‘Anything Repaired’, and Mrs Taylor was one of the many characterful customers it soon attracted! I agree with you, I wish I too had a photo of the characters I met from this period, especially Mrs T and her cat (which had its own TV). But in a pre camera-phone age this would have meant asking her to pose in front of a real camera, which she would have loved, because in her mind she was still a 21 year-young Royal Air Force pin-up. She was as sharp as at tack and still knew how to make an entrance. One point I didn’t mention about the brand new pearl-white Porsche was she NEVER washed it! This lady stuck two fingers up to the world and we could all learn a lot from her, just maybe don’t wait until your 80’s to do it. Best wishes 🌞

What was the challenge in mastering the gearbox, specifically, as opposed to, maybe, its clutch? I like that shift pattern because of the placement for quick downshifting from 3 directly into 2 without moving the shifter laterally. 🇬🇧🧐
Hahahahha- this is a wonderful story. I wish I had a pic of her and her cat driving the thing.

I had a 79 manual. Great looking car. Felt solid. But electrics were complicated. Parts expensive. Gearbox difficult to master. But beautifully made, stunning bodywork design. Fast, quiet and a good experience to drive
Also had a '79 manual. Found out hard way it was early year - two fuel pumps. The one in the tank went out. With the large threaded mount to tank, decided to sell it as I didn't want to risk damaging the tank forcing it.
What was the challenge in mastering the gearbox, specifically, as opposed to, maybe, its clutch? I like that shift pattern because of the placement for quick downshifting from 3 directly into 2 without moving the shifter laterally. Transitioning those gears into and out of corners makes it an advantage.
As a teenager, this was the car I dreamed of, still looks amazing today.
Oh man this is beautiful. Love the 928. Looks like a spaceship today.
I had a white 928 S4 in Germany, brought it from a LT Col while stationed in Heidelberg. I would walk pass that car every day and just admire its beauty. At my next opportunity, I went to the LTC office and inquired about the car, he came down on orders and needed to leave and wasn't able to take the car with him because it didn't have US specifications. I got a deal of a lifetime, the car was just a year old with 8 thousand kilometers on the clock. The acceleration would take your breath away, and would hit 320 kph. Amazing memories, beautiful car.

Risky Business and Scarface made me fall in love with the 928 when I was a kid in the 80’s
Fun fact- Jeremy Clarkson also liked this porsche cuz his father was in the hospital and was about to pass away. He took the chicken from the oven and went into the porsche 928 that he was testing. He made it just in time to see his father live and the chicken was also hot
They’re cheap for a reason .. they’re all broken af and very expensive to fix .
Because you would know
@@WOLF10139 7 years ago brother buys 2004 4.2L Audi A8 , air suspension dies few weeks after ,trunk hinge was replaced and wasn’t even from a car ,all rubbers were busted ,filters and oils weren’t changed for ages and so on . Another friend buys an S class ,as always rear air suspension gives up and car won’t start ,disk brakes are chewed through like it went around the globe ,electronics start failing , engine light comes on. 2023 friend buys a 2010 Audi 8 ,yep air suspension is giving up ,trunk won’t close properly , faulty electronics ,car won’t pass inspection and cannot be insured ,exhaust needs replacing , headlights fogging up and condensation turning them into water bottles . These are from people I know and I can keep on going ,there are so many stories out there ,a sucker is born every day.
@@WOLF10139 he's right though.
The 928 is such an underated model
It was the smoothest vehicle ive ever owned. It wasnt the fastest ive owned but its the fastest ive ever gone 140mph. 1983 928 S. Miss that car
The 928 was way ahead of its time . Great cruiser buetiful engineered car sat solid on the road at high speed . Porsche should have kept it in production , its whats missing from they're line up a proper sport cruiser
And it came in that gorgeous champagne gold colour as well. 😍
Two of the best days of my life- the day I bought my 928 and the day I sold my 928
Widely known as "a dentist's wife's car"
Also called "frauen Porche" in Germany.

Man that's a clean 928!
