This brings a new meaning to Garden JUNGLE Restoration!

Once again, I was driving around looking for a good yard (or bad) to do a youtube transformation video. I knocked on this random person's door and offered to do a free makeover, only to be declined. So I gave the homeowner my business card and said if he changes his mind to give me a call. A few weeks later, I received a call asking if I was still interested in the cleanup. As you can see, I was definitely interested in doing this one. The homeowner is actually undergoing treatment for cancer and hasn't been able to look after his garden for some time, as the treatment is quite severs and leaves you with little energy to do everyday things. Hopefully, with this little bit of help, he will be able to maintain his yard moving forward and make his life a bit easier. All up, I spent around 12.5 hours on this job, with 3 trips to the landfill.

FAQ's:
Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: What happened to Nick?
A: Nick was offered a full-time position at his other job as a Political admin.
Q: What happened to Brent?
A: Brent quit at the start of August 2022.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️
Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee!
A: I'm not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working. All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved.
Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.
Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That's the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What happened to your workers?
A: Because the work is so hard and I expect high standards, most have quit over time. The only exception so far is Nick.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.

  • I have concluded the reasons i enjoy your videos more that most other channels. You treat every single yard as if it were your home! You know that the tiniest of detail can stick out like a sore thumb and you take pride in knowing that the smallest of repairs can make a huge impact on a homeowner. New screws in a hinge, a single nail in a fence board, stacked wood moved from yard to concrete porch, trash and debris in a ditch. It separates you from those who, while still working hard, still give the vibe that they are only doing it for content and have the attitude like, they dare someone to point out the trash they left behind because hey...the job was free so deal with it! Not you!! You know its worth doing so its worth doing well and your ethic and genuine care shows! You understand that if the homeowner can't maintain the yard, that can't do the minor repairs either and you totally step up! There's true compassion and love in your work and because of that....i let all the ads play through to help support you! BRAVO ON BEING AN AMAZING SPIRIT IN THIS UGLY WORLD! The planet is a better place because of you! ❤❤

He now does not have to suffer the guilt, of knowing he desperately needed to get his yard back under control, and not having the energy to do so. Even a healthy person would have struggled tackling that lot, you are amazing! I really hope that you can revisit this yard to tackle that ivy, as he is going to end up having major damage issues. I was so hoping that the shed was going to be removed, just like you do with some plants, as it was definately in the wrong spot😅😅

My hope is that his treatment is hugely successful and he can get back to maintaining his yard. After this brilliant restoration, it should be loads easier to care for. I’m allergic to bottle-brush, which is too bad, really, because they are lovely. Maybe he wants privacy because he’s sick, or just prefers not having people seeing into his home. I appreciate that George doesn’t just come in and run rampant over the properties 👍! • Terrific job. Cant wait for the back. I wonder if the owner would be ok for you to remove or relocate that shed? And for maybe trimming that tea tree more? Removing the under branches would really open it up more.

  • The hardest thing when I had chemo was asking for help to do everything. I was so independent and did everything myself. Now in remission, I want to wish this person the best to come to them.

  • Wow! The way the video ends is a work of art. The music and still images and camerawork are incredible. The whole video was amazing and then the ending was moving and inspiring. You have a special gift. I’m glad you’re sharing it with the world. I just had to tell you.

  • Thank you George, chemo just sucks the life out of you (been there, done that) and someone resetting the garden is the VERY best medicine one can be given. My neighbour mowed my lawns for me for over 6 months while I was having treatment, the kindest thing anyone did for me.

Looks tough with so much overgrown. I’m sure the openness will also help him on his journey to recovery. May you be blessed. ❤
