The Arrow missile defense system consists of 3 Basic Parts
The Missile Launcher Unit 2, The Green Pine Radar Antenna and the Arrow Missile.
Number 1 Missile Launcher Unit.
The missile launcher unit is composed of six erector-launcher tubes, housing ready-to-fire missiles. Positioned at the rear of a two-axle trailer, each launcher, when fully loaded with six launch tubes carrying ready-to-fire missiles, weighs 35 tons.
Number 2 Green Pine Radar Antenna.
The Green Pine,serves as the warning and fire control radar for the Arrow 3 anti-ballistic air defense missile system. It plays a crucial role in target detection and guidance.

    • Yes, intercepted more than 5 ballistic missiles launched to Israel from Yemen in the last few weeks (Yemen and Israel two closest points are about 2000 km from each other). So far 100% success rate.

  • Comparing ARROW with THAAD or PATRIOT is not correct as both are short-mid range. ARROW should be compared with SM3, as both of them have super long range, > 1200km.

  • I find it interesting that Isreal would opt for a two stage interceptor missile, as the added complexity would normally make such an assembly more expensive and less reliable

    • Because they use pre assembled rocket missile. Building new rocket just to have 1 stage missile is expensive and would decrease the ammount of rocket they can have. Also reliability isn't really an issue so long you maintain them, remember reliability not just kept working despite lack of care but also easy of maintenance and easy of spare part manufacturing

    • Two stage interceptor make a lot of sense when you target the interception to be in space, it allows the kill vehicle to be very light. The lighter an object is, the easier is to change its direction/trajectory meaning better maneuverability. Better maneuverability increases the chances of intercepting a target, especially those that try to do evasive manuevers.

    • Warhead can also be just solid container. To perform kinetic kill, you need mass and rigidness of warhead.

    • Israel has 4 layers of defence system: 1.iron dome: rockets drones uav and artillery 2.david sling: long range rockets uav and cruise missiles 3. Arrow 2: ballistic missiles 4. Arrow 3. Advanced ballistic missile, so it's doesn't matter if they launch 1000 drones and 10 ballistic missiles because each target will be intercepted by different systems
