Wrapping your mind around your life is pretty hard, because you are up to your neck in it. It's like trying to understand the ocean while learning how to swim. On most days you are busy just keeping your head above water. So it is not easy to figure out what to do with your life and how to spend your time.
There are a million distractions. Your family, friends and romantic partners, boring work, and exciting projects. Video games to play and books to read. And then there is your couch that somebody needs to lie on. It’s easy to get lost. So let us take a step back and take a look at your life from the outside.

  • The script was inspired by an old article from my friend Tim Urban, who runs “Wait but Why”, the best blog on the internet, make sure to check it out. waitbutwhy.com It’s so easy to get lost in your daily life: there are so many “urgent” and “annoying” things that you forget that actually every day is special, sort of. And even more so the days we have with friends and family. I know watching a video like this can hit pretty hard. But at least for me, the message it tries to convey does make me actually change my behavior. Reprioritize things. You know. Hope it had a similar effect for some of you. Also, if you want to track how many weeks off your life you have left or get a new perspective on this stuff, we’ve made a few posters you can check out. Getting something from our shop is the best way to support our channel. kgs.link/shop-143 In any case, call someone you haven’t called in a while today. And thank you for watching. - Philipp

    • Don't let this comment distract you from the fact that democracy has proven itself to be a complete and utter failure. Throughout history, democracy has ruined thousands of lives due to it's corruptible nature. Democracy may pretend to be a fair and equal system of government but that is all a lie. Look at some of the democratic nations of the world. Look at the USA, a tyrannical and unstable nation with a population that has been divided due to stupid political parties. What about Libya? Libya tried to be a fair and equal nation under democracy, and dissolved into a chaotic mess. As a matter of fact, the original democratic system in Athens was completely based on privilege. When democracy was first created, you could only vote if you were a rich man. Ever since it's inception, democracy has always been corrupt. The system of democracy is an evil thing and all members of a Senate/Parliament/Congress should be executed for irreversibly fucking up the planet

  • When I was 29 I had a dream one night, where I saw the visual effects of warp speed in front of me, like on Star Trek. I zipped through the warp field, and a second later I was 46 years old! I woke up in a sweat! It was the worst nightmare ever! I was shaking, and soooo incredibly relieved that it was only a dream and I was 29, not 46. I looked at my 29 yr old body and thanked God it was only a dream. I knew though, that the Universe had given me that dream to illustrate how fast time moves, so that I would get off my butt and do what I came here to do. .. Now I am 71, and I gotta tell you, those years went by like the speed of light!!

    • Wow. Thank you for sharing this. I think I can speak for everyone in our 30s right now that this is the age where we feel young and older at the same time. Seeing teens talk about their life and older folks talking about theirs. It's interesting to be in this middle part of life and see how others have navigated it. Thank you for the life you live and giving us perspective as we keep going.

    • @@jamesblackwood656 hi, i know you're not asking me, but i wanted to offer some advice. keep in mind i'm only 13 rn so it might not the best. if i was you, i'd look at opportunities my school provides. see if there's an engineering or STEM club you can enter at your school. maybe your school has connections with a career center you can look at? my brother is 16 and he's taking heavy machinery classes at our local career center. he signed up through the school. if you're worried about math, i would tell someone who can help you, like a teacher. maybe you can get a tutor (if you can afford it or if one's available to you) and they can help you improve your skill. another thing you could do is reach out to your school's guidance counselor (if you have one). they're the go-to people for this kind of stuff because they can set you up for success and help you be ready for a career. i hope this helped :) good luck!

    • @@jamesblackwood656College sophomore in Calc 2 here. My biggest mistake was letting things go in one ear and out the other like with history and English. I could score 90s on tests in precal and trig wasn’t horrible, so I assumed I’d do fine in Calculus to. You’ve gotta have ALL your ducks in a row once you get to Calculus. If you’re good with math, just keep doing what you’re doing, and maybe watch some videos here and there on different things to keep yourself refreshed. If not, it’s just something you’ve gotta throw yourself at and spend time with until it’s so drilled into your head that it’s basically muscle memory. If you can, try to make some friends in your math classes to do the work with. It helps to have other people around to bounce ideas off of and point out mistakes with. You’re gonna learn a lot better by working out those mistakes as you have them than you would trying to save them all up for your teacher after class.

    • Life is really weird because everyone has their own preconceptions of what we should and shouldn’t be doing but when you stop and you’re by yourself and you really think about it, everything seems pointless. Things that push you forward, things that keep you in place, it just seems like the point of living is to be alive and we shouldn’t be so hard on ourselves. The only person that can answer what you want to do with your life is you. that’s why I get so frustrated when I ask myself what I wanna do and I don’t have an answer.

Like, I have gone through a lot of mental processing and rethinking, heck it happened a few weeks ago when I thought I critically failed a landing during my flight lesson This kind of stuff hits me deep, there ain't a day that goes by where I don't think at least once "What did I do today... and how does this affect me in the future?" This video is amazing, and I feel like a lot of people should take what it says seriously.

    • Life is so depressing. We’re forced to get old and watch the ones we love get older before us and die. There’s nothing we can do about it. Spending more time with them doesn’t make things any easier either. That’s why I don’t understand why people say to “spend time with your loved ones while you can”. If you’re close with them, It’s probably going to suck even more when you inevitably lose them forever. It’s a lose-lose situation. I’ve genuinely been wondering lately if the 80 or so years of existence is truly worth all the misery, pain, and sadness that most people experience throughout their short lives. Only about 1 percent of all people actually make enough money to live comfortably for their entire lives without any worries. The rest of us are just stressed out and miserable for 99% of our existence. Sometimes I feel like never being born would have been better.
