Now Shujinko Is a very interesting character in the franchise, from both a lore and gameplay perspective, as narratively Shujinko actually appears very early In the series will his tale actually threading and weaving In and out of subsequence Mortal kombat games.
Even despite Shujinkos minor and small appearances throughout the franchise, he’s definitely made quite and impression on the fandom, especially after his disappearance following armageddon, however where Is he now In that that of the new era?

Shit made me tear up back in HS. Ever since deception I would always look forward to seeing if he’d make it into any new games. Glad he’s finally back even if it’s just a KAMEO. Hopefully in a future Kombat pack we can get a revamped shujinko

Shujinko is my favorite character in MK. I love his lore, I love his abilities and I love that he’s the ultimate combatant. Just the idea of an adventurer, wandering these strange realms while also training his whole life with some of the very best warriors of those realms have to offer, is so badass. How can you hate that? I definitely would love to see an animated movie on it. The reveal that he inadvertently helped and gave Onaga ultimate power blew me away as a kid. People saying he’s dumb because he accidentally helped Onaga always forget to realize or say that Shujinko ALSO right his mistake and slayed The Dragon King and save EarthRealm. I will always defend my boy in hate threads because he really is a dope character. The FightersDen and The4ThSnake both have great videos regarding Shujinko, I’d recommend y’all check it out. He’s my main Kameo in MK1 and based off Kung Lao’s MK1 ending, I hope we see Shujinko in a prominent role in MK2. Also, Respect Taven! He’s the only male Edenian that’s actually booked to be a badass powerhouse and not some jobber like Rain and Jerrrod. But that’s another comment for another video!
Facts I like this guy
Funny thing is that Shujinko's name literally translates to "protagonist"
My main gripe with him is he doesn't have much in the way of personality or anything that's original to him. Aside from his journey, I felt he was so boring as a character. I'm sure they could do a lot with him now if they tried though. NR has mostly done impressive work at revitalizing old characters.
2004: The Face of MK. 2023: So niche that the odds of seeing him in Kombat League are like getting an Ultra Rare item from a loot box. 😂 (He's the only character whom I've not seen yet in KL.)

I really liked Shujinko’s story. I remember buying deception on holiday and finishing the konquest mode before I got home. A bit tedious at times but I had fun all the same. Wouldn’t mind if more fighting games had an open world story mode.
Konquest mode was really something special,it's ashame they've never brought it back. If they really wanted MK1 to be 3D era inspired they should've had Konquest mode again. We were so close to getting it too, they literally had the blueprints from MK11's Krypt mode. Raiden and Kung Lao or Fujin could've been the main characters, it could've been great. Only in my dreams I guess.
Shujinko is so underrated he was fooled throughout his life making him tragic but he defeated Onaga who was the closest to the one being and redeemed himself and is actually one of the most powerful characters oh and btw that 15:35 that was Shang tsung on the steps dead not shujinko because u can see those hooks Liu kang used on him in the MKA intro
That’s definitely Liu Kang on those steps but for the reboot they removed the chained hooks 🪝
@@YaqubGames I mean that he mistakes Shang tsung on the steps as Shujinko because in the intro Shang tsung was the one on the top of the pyramid fighting Liu kang u can still see the hooks on Shang in the MK 9 alt Armageddon intro and zombie Liu kang is below him if u pay attention

NRS really need to bring back both shujinko and taven as a main central character again because both shujinko and taven was completely replace both dark lord raiden and zombie liu kang as main protagonists in 2nd last timeline of titan kronika NRS completely forget about both shujinko and taven.
They need to bring back a deception type konquest mode were it's a open world type but with today's type of gaming tech they could add soo much more like better looking environments, more people and things, swimming, climbing maybe a S/M type open world fighting style with normal screen 1v1 at times and soo. much more.

Shujinko and Taven are trash
I respectfully disagree about Taven, I just think they dropped the ball with that story. They were kinda boring characters to me (Taven and Daegon). Also, just don't dig the names. However, I do respect your opinion, and I do feel maybe they could make em better today, but I'd rather them just make new characters. lol. I do love Shujinko, though. My siblings and I had tons of hours of fun playing that Konquest mode.

Plot hole: So, if Shujinko was able to absorb the fighting abilities of all fighters during the battle against Onaga, why couldn't he do the same at the Pyramid? I think Boon and the writers had regrets about Shujinko.
He doesn't absorb as in "Takes the powers away" he absorbs and takes the powers and learns them as if they were his own. Even with that ability having an entire army of people fighting for Blaze's power there's bound to be a group of enemies ganging up or attacking people with sneak attacks of some sort. Either way there were strong people there like Shinnok , Onaga and Shao Kahn so Shujinko was bound to die or close to the last few remaining.
I know he doesn't take powers away, but in the ending of Deception he gathers all their powers and strikes down Onaga, who was strong enough to withstand the might of Raiden, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. Just feel like Shujinko got nerfed.
@@riotd.r.8363 maybe it was a temporary buff , But again in a battlefield like that surely someone would be smart enough to back stab Shujinko somehow, or like the Intro ... Just get punched by Shang and falls down a flight of stairs

Love Shujinko, I think the new era version of him should appear in M1K's aftermath or maybe as a future DLC fighter, much like how some characters have repeat on both kameo and main roster haha.

3:53 Speaking of refreshing I would personally want something similar to this again. Even if it's a spin off game or something, I feel the MK story has really been lacking since MKX despite some awesome moments and ideas. Also I missed out on that game and didn't get in fighting games until MK9 which is still my favourite MK, MKX is a close second.
Shujinko was a great protagonist and could have replaced Liu Kang if the fandom was ready for it. It’s not the traditional protagonist in that he inadvertently created the world state we experienced due to being deceived. That type of writing was always intriguing to me because it’s typically that of a side character in lore but Shujinko was a main character and we got to experience that story with him. It would have been great to see his story further develop or even re explored in the NRS trilogy. Perhaps an alternate MK11 that continued along the ending of Kotal’s MKX ending where Outworld would in some ways become a bit more sympathetic due to the influence of Dark Raiden in Earthrealm. What was and could have been.
I think Shunjinko’s story is cool, but I believe that at least in part for why he didn’t catch on is that his default design is of the “old martial arts” archetype. It doesn’t help that people In and Out of universe have mistaken him for old Shang Tsung. So I think they should have had ended his aging when he only had a Grey streak in his hair, something that makes him standout.
Mk 1 Shujinko even tho its short I prefer to learn more about young Shujinko being trained by both Kung Lao and Raiden. How will his interactions with young Hanzo and other characters be like? Mk1 just made things more interesting
I'm happy that he's back and personally if they do make another mortal Kombat sequel I would love for him Raiden Liu Kang Kung Lao and even fujin to team up to take down onaga

Were clearly seeing set ups for shujinko, however if nrs was smarter, let raiden have his rest and give the man his fair due. Liu kang is now a god, shujinko easily becomes champion for this time he wouldn't have journeyed alone while influenced by onaga but by comrades with great influences. To mention him is a step forward, just MK1 should have been his time, not paradox raiden. As for the other changes in this era, they need to not involve other possibilities. Having a multiverse is not only confusing, but takes away what makes mk what it is.
Shu definitely falls under the category of being the audience's character, we have an idea of what to expect but we're also exploring the everything for the first time. He does take a long time to build some personality like questioning the purpose of his quest after so many years, I used to argue that his blind loyalty was under the idea of a divine being's quest is expected to be followed without question but given the number of years he's been imprisoned should've been more than enough to reflect on his task, however the new era is giving him the Kung Lao treatment. With Lao still being more self-prideful and arrogant in this era, it offers both him and Shu an opportunity to both grow together and hopefully improve on their own flaws.

Oh shit..ayy bro..i consider myself a lifelong MK fan and love the lore and although extremely young(and soon to be extremely disappointed lol)I was the first kid I knew that possessed the game and for obvious reasons haven't gone back to it since I first finished the game(purely out of spite lol)I don't think I recall ANY kind of reference in the game..i mean i guess I could look into it myself but if you or anyone else see this and can tell me what I am blanking on I'd appreciate it if by chance anyone does and if not maybe in a few days look into it myself when I am not at work next time I remember lol
Shujinko becomes a support character and playable character in MK13. Maybe.
When and how was the MKX comics reconed? I was unaware of this until recently so if anyone else please explain and it's pretty unfortunate that it's not canon because it was the only knowledge and information of Shujinko whereabouts during the mkx story and now it never even happened anymore 😭 truly disappointing 😞

As someone who grew up in Japan, I was always baffled why a person would be called Shujinkou while playing this game, as it’s more of a title than a name. While it’s understandable why they named him that, it always sounds funny to me.

When MK1 gets its inevitable story DLC it should be centered around Hanzo Hasashi, Shujinko, and maybe Jax as the main protagonists. Maybe also Raiden's sister
