I just want to express the amount of respect that I have for this trainer, Garrett. I truly can’t say enough how much I love his no non-sense attitude towards those who attempt to critique his work. His experience and his ability to positively discipline the canines that he trains really says volumes about his knowledge of different breeds, his understanding of the capabilities of each dog individually, the respect that he has for all dogs says so much about his character. A lot of people misunderstand the role their dog is supposed to have within their family dynamic or even as an individual. I love that he has dedicated his life and his career to creating an outlet for dog owners to effectively maintain a healthy and safe relationship with their dogs, as well as teaching the owners how to remain in control of their dog and even puts his training to the test in real life scenarios so that the owner is able to cognitively recognize what their role and behavior should be like. Garrett is by far my most favorite dog trainer on any platform. He doesn’t bs anyone or sugar coat anything. He tells you what you need to know and he shows you how it’s done with ease. I wish many blessings to his family and I enjoy seeing just how down to earth he is. Very refreshing. Thank you for sharing this video.
Well said, man these guys on the comments assuming bad behavior for getting a picture at a historical place. Like so if I go to historical plantation in the usa, that makes me a slaver or racist 🙄 ya ok.
what an absolutely good boy Beowulf is.
The best🎉🎉🎉
To play god over a dog he must do nothing but look at you and do what you say he cant run on long leads ..there should be as mant commands as possible so for the puppy his walk should be continuously feeding treats for obediance and mental excercise ..he must see you as god
What a great looking dog! The German bloodline clearly shows in his coloring, shape of head and body. And good job Garrett! I felt that last bite with you. Most people are very surprised to learn a German Shepherd has a harder bite than a Pitbull. I just learned yesterday of a woman friend of mine (tiny thing) who has a large GSD, the dog not trained to bite did so quite naturally when she had it sitting in her van while loading some suitcases. Some guy came and grabbed her, the dog instinctively reacted lunging and reaching as high as his shoulder... he dragged the dog across the hotel lot where the dog released and returned to her. His prizes include 22 stitches, a fractured collar bone, felony assault and attempted kidnapping charges. Play Stupid Games And Win Stupid Prizes!
Awesome! Love to hear it! I recently adopted a one-year-old GSD and his intelligence is amazing.
Love to hear it! With all these liberals not holding criminals accountable and letting them out without spending any ti jail time , nice to hear that her dog did the repercussion part of things!
Its a showline with a sloppy back bro. You see thats hes weaker than the healthy working lines.
@@flyingpuma9729 I'm cutting him a lot of slack as the dog's 7yrs old and still primarily a service dog. I doubt he's got any serious threats against him that he NEEDS a biter, but it's better than a dog that will shy away. Most K9's are retiring by 7 and living a life of luxury.
Love this story! Fantastic. I have a Dutch Shepherd for protection for me and my daughter. Nothing like a shepherd for instincts to protect the pack. Great job!
Amazing job Garret. Indeed, one of the best dog trainers out there.
I have been wanting to be a trainer for so long, but I had been worried about no one being able to realise the truth. I wish I could find a great mentor, like yourself, because I find myself loving training my new GSD along side your videos. I have successfully trained my Border Collie for Service work, however, a past attack from a pit scared him so bad. Now he can't work without his own anxeity problems. So now I am trying again, with a purebred working dog. Huge difference. Hopefully I can figure out how to make my dream a reality, I find this to be super rewarding. I would love to help others find this feeling as well. Thank you, for all of the help. ❤
This is one of my absolute favourite channels on KZhead. You guys are great 🙏🏽
I love your videos Lt. Maybe some day I'll be able to own a dog trained by you. You do great work.
You do such a great job. I learn so much from your videos. Thank you!
Good thing I'm not training this dog,I would have trained him to eat his master.🤣
Pookie Bear syndrome is all to real. I had to stop being friends with one lady and I told her exactly why. She let her dog roam and he ended up getting hit by a car. I told her so many times and the neighbors did too that the dog obviously doesn't "know better," but she never listened to anyone. She got mad I told her she got her dog killed. I can't stand delusional owners.
I am so glad i found your channel. I learn more and each video. Thank you
Love the content as usual it's nice to see some personal protection content from an actual top tier trainer 👍 garret you and your team are doing amazing ❤🤍💙
I LOOOOOOOVE your videos Garett ! Much love and support from canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I Love the GSD I had amale of show line And 3 female of working line. Now days I have a mixed pit some saying it's mixed with Cane corso . I brought her when she was three months old Now 6 year's old. I was fell in love with dogs since I was a baby. Now 64 years old
I love this and the owner so much!🎉🎉
New subscriber! Youre over a million for a reason.. dogs NEED NEED NEED leadership or it simply confuses them.
Garett your video was awsome. God bless you, your family and your video channel 🙏
please upload more videos of dog returning to their owner like this one
I have a female GSD and I confirm these dogs are great at everything.
What a name for a German shepherd. AWESOME🤙🏼🤙🏼
Nice gift!! I'm still looking for my one pappy. Good video.
I know I spend a lot on the diy k9 but it did a lot for my dog I never taught i was going to be able to train my own dog is the most gratifying experience
Aaawww he reminds me of my late GSD Optimus. He was the best dog ever. ❤
Fantastic video. I really enjoyed it.😊
Very impressive and I learned a lot, thank you
That was awesome, great vid guys!
I have a GSD service dog. I had no idea they could be trained to also do protection work. I thought it was one or the other. Thank you for this info.
i may need to reread the ADA guidelines but i think it is supposed to be one or the other. the only “protection” task they’re allowed to know is the one where they’re between your legs and barking.
i just double checked. protection work is not legal for service dogs. you can be fined if your service dog bites someone while theyre working. to be fair that depends on the person bitten knowing this law but i’d be careful because depending on your area your dog could also be put down.
bro is like "should i try to act natural" 9:13 as soon as his dog starts to protect him, the grin doesn't leave this guys mouth. can see the pride in his dog
Love the Dutch "blijf" command, this German shepherd is from the Netherlands!
your daughter is so cute btw amazing job man crazy how you guys do that in 6 weeks
Great work, Garrett!
That van Winkle is STRROOOOONG bro. Heads up! Maybe heads down! Lol
Awesome job! I'm a disable Veteran with PTSD I walk with a cane or a walker, do you know that you have to buy the dog to be trained. The VA will pay for the training. I don't have the money to pay for a German Shepherd . So I stay at home most of the time. I don't want a hand out. I want the VA system to be fixed the way it should be.
Love your videos
I love the dog videos but heck let’s see a video of y’all trying that Pappy!
Saving for a special occasion. 🇺🇲

That's awesome... We've had 3 Dogue de Bordeaux over the years but have never seen any on your channel... Have you worked with them?
Im in awe just love you💖...any tips for a 5lb Yorkie boss???
Dude, will you please do a vid on what and how you feed your dogs a raw food diet? There is so much conflicting information, like which freeze dried foods are best…my Pom will not eat any of the freeze dried stuff. The medical mafia has issued a statement that they are against raw food diets, so I know there must be something good about raw food diet. I would be so grateful to know firsthand from someone who knows how to feed raw food to dogs.🙏🏼
Retired LEO and curious when people pay high bucks for these protection dogs, who is keeping up their training? Our LEO K9 handlers (mandatory) trained weekly with their dogs….
Hopefully thanos doesn’t confuse him when he drunk 😂😂
love your videos. I got a husky who pulls like a train cause my siblings hid or trew away the pron collar i got because some "trainer" said it hurts the dog and dont work. smh
I am a fan of your videos. We will like to watch and learn from a series of "protection dog training" videos
HEYYY MY PEOPLE!! 👨🏼🦽🇺🇸🇺🇸🐕 love this video!
First. I love you bro 😂 ur awesome, second could you do a video or short on catahoula leopard/Kur. I have one crossed with an american bluenose
Hey mate! You are a legend, changing the entire way I look at training my dog. The only thing is prong collars are illegal in Australia, what would be your replacement? Can an e collar be a replacement for prong?
Not illegal to use. Just to import. Also won't find in store. Can buy online. Herm sprenger is good
Unfortunately nothing is like a prong collar. Choke chains and slip leads put pressure on the windpipe.
@@grandpa822 hmmm on the Qld govt website it says “The use or possession of a prong collar is prohibited in Queensland” I wish it weren’t so!
That dog is having fun.
I love your videos ❤
What are your opinions on anatolian shepherds? Never heard you talk about them before!

Question: How can I become a certified dog trainer like you. I love dogs, and I've been practicing a lot with training.
That is one hard-core dog bro.
That's great 👍
Id hope my shiba had a trainer like me. I cant even tell him to bring me the newspaper.
Favorite trainer. With you posted more tho 😅
?? He posts a ton?
Referred Buck Sexton to you…told him how good you are and that you’re the BEST!
pls do more of these
I love your training videos full stop. I am concerned though because it is quite literally illegal for a service/assistance dog that goes out in public to be or have personal protection training. It is addressed under the ADA.
This dog is being trained as a personal protection dog for a person in a wheelchair, not as a service dog. A protection dog in the service of a person in a wheelchair.
@@janicetribbiani7535Garrett explicitly says Beowulf has been trained as a service dog, too. Now, the question is does Beowulf actually work as a service dog? Or just he just perform tasks like one. Because any dog can be trained to do tasks at home/pet friendly places but I don't think I've seen Beowulf out with Madison in a professional setting.
💥 Can an *expert* *_please_* answer this question for me? (Coz i have seen, probably 100s of vids of guard dogs but they ALWAYS & ONLY ever show the dog learning how to attack or defend PEOPLE!) Do they train the dogs to PROTECT THEMSELVES?! ^ The mock 'bad-guy' always holds back, from attacking the dog(of course). There are multiple things you can do vs a dog attack which, of course, u don't want the bad guys to know but at the same time, would be good for everyone to know incase of a dog attack.... ^ I'm rambling but if you're training a PROTECTION/security/police dog, that have to hold ppl, do they get taught how to protect themselves?! (E.g. from body-crushing leg clamps, being chocked out, having their legs pulled apart, strikes to the head etc...) I have never seen footage of a dog that knows how to release, then re-attach depending on the situation/when they are being attacked back....
Hey brother can you talk a little of the rhodesian ridgeback? I'm very interested on this breed and would love to know more
off subject to this video can i ask for tips on training my new puppies as I've never done it before. They are 7 week old Staffy x and one of them I'm sure is deaf. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.
What’s the best guardian breed for a novice owner who likes to keep active ?
My first thought is a Doberman since they are athletic dogs.
I'm watching and learning. I find encouragement here too. I'd like to ask you, What's your opinion on Male / Female gsd for household ? We have 4 grandsons here much of the time [fyi] smart informed kids around dogs. I'd love to know your educated opinion on M v. F
Hi I really love ur vids
Hello, can you tell me how to start teaching my dog the “nite” command? I’m not sure where to even begin.
I have a Rottweiler who has cruciate tears in both back knees. His leash manners are not great to say the least. He sometimes pulls (like a freight train) he lunges at people, cats ,squirrels... you name it! What would be the best way to correct these behaviors? Putting him on a prong collar and doing the quick directional changes will most likely hurt and cause more damage to his hind legs. But something has got to give before he hurts me or someone else!!!
Prong collar will not cause him pain if you know how to use it. Also, the prong collar must be put in the neck so it will not cause pain in his legs
@davidwatched935 perhaps you should learn what cruciate tears are BEFORE you comment nonsense!!
Great job fellas and Beowulf. He still has a few more years left in him.
Dogs are amazing. They can love even the most despicable person
Your dog proves this every moment of everyday,. Give'm some extra bacon.
I love your videos
Can you please do a short video on what to do if my dog does not want to walk on leash. He’s a 6 month old corso and he hates the leash. I want him to travel with me but he refuses
The channel How to train a Dream Dog has a video on that. It's called "pancaking" and it happens when a dog is very overstimulated. I started walking my gsd on a house leash inside and now she does pretty good on walks outside.
Maybe do a video on Schutzhund vs "Regular" commands. When it's a good idea, does it matter, should "normies" use it....? Thanks G
My dude my Belgian malinois was trained by a few rangers she is my weapon . I still carry tho 😂 I love my service dog ❤
@@CatsOnTren didn't make shit up she got training . Not used nincompoop
Hey man I came across your video and I need serious help, we bought a doberman puppy about 2 weeks ago and she has a terrible problem of biting us and biting HARD and not listing to anything very stubborn its like she's trying to teach us that she is the boss my wife thinks I'm overreacting but shes about 12 weeks old and should be smart enough to understand
Thanks for sharing! When you posted on IG, a lot of haters kept saying you can't have a protection dog AND a service dog. What is the truth about that statement? Is it one of the other? Or if it is for personal use, you can train whatever you like, just not "officially" for public? Curious because I never heard a response from you about it!
It’s not anyone being a hater. It truly is under the ADA. “This is part of the NPRM discussion for 28 CPR Part 35 Appendix A to Part 35, Guidance to Revisions of ADA. The Department recognizes the diverse needs and preferences of individuals with disabilities protected under the ADA, and does not wish to unnecessarily impede individual choice. Service animals play an integral role in the lives of many individuals with disabilities and, with the clarification provided by the final rule, individuals with disabilities will continue to be able to use their service animals as they go about their daily activities and civic interactions. The clarification will also help to ensure that the fraudulent or mistaken use of other animals not qualified as service animals under the ADA will be deterred. A more detailed analysis of the elements of the definition and the comments responsive to the service animal provisions of the NPRM follows. Providing minimal protection. As previously noted, the 1991 title II regulation does not contain specific language concerning service animals. The 1991 title III regulation included language stating that “minimal protection” was a task that could be performed by an individually trained service animal for the benefit of an individual with a disability. In the Department's “ADA Business Brief on Service Animals” (2002), the Department interpreted the “minimal protection” language within the context of a seizure (i.e., alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure). The Department received many comments in response to the question of whether the “minimal protection” language should be clarified. Many commenters urged the removal of the “minimal protection” language from the service animal definition for two reasons: (1) The phrase can be interpreted to allow any dog that is trained to be aggressive to qualify as a service animal simply by pairing the animal with a person with a disability; and (2) the phrase can be interpreted to allow any untrained pet dog to qualify as a service animal, since many consider the mere presence of a dog to be a crime deterrent, and thus sufficient to meet the minimal protection standard. These commenters argued, and the Department agrees, that these interpretations were not contemplated under the original title III regulation, and, for the purposes of the final title II regulations, the meaning of “minimal protection” must be made clear. While many commenters stated that they believe that the “minimal protection” language should be eliminated, other commenters recommended that the language be clarified, but retained. Commenters favoring clarification of the term suggested that the Department explicitly exclude the function of attack or exclude those animals that are trained solely to be aggressive or protective. Other commenters identified non-violent behavioral tasks that could be construed as minimally protective, such as interrupting self-mutilation, providing safety checks and room searches, reminding the individual to take medications, and protecting the individual from injury resulting from seizures or unconsciousness. Several commenters noted that the existing direct threat defense, which allows the exclusion of a service animal if the animal exhibits unwarranted or unprovoked violent behavior or poses a direct threat, prevents the use of “attack dogs” as service animals. One commenter noted that the use of a service animal trained to provide “minimal protection” may impede access to care in an emergency, for example, where the first responder, usually a title II entity, is unable or reluctant to approach a person with a disability because the individual's service animal is in a protective posture suggestive of aggression. Many organizations and individuals stated that in the general dog training community, “protection” is code for attack or aggression training and should be removed from the definition. Commenters stated that there appears to be a broadly held misconception that aggression-trained animals are appropriate service animals for persons with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). While many individuals with PTSD may benefit by using a service animal, the work or tasks performed appropriately by such an animal would not involve unprovoked aggression but could include actively cuing the individual by nudging or pawing the individual to alert to the onset of an episode and removing the individual from the anxiety-provoking environment. The Department recognizes that despite its best efforts to provide clarification, the “minimal protection” language appears to have been misinterpreted. While the Department maintains that protection from danger is one of the key functions that service animals perform for the benefit of persons with disabilities, the Department recognizes that an animal individually trained to provide aggressive protection, such as an attack dog, is not appropriately considered a service animal. Therefore, the Department has decided to modify the “minimal protection” language to read “non-violent protection,” thereby excluding so-called “attack dogs” or dogs with traditional “protection training” as service animals. The Department believes that this modification to the service animal definition will eliminate confusion, without restricting unnecessarily the type of work or tasks that service animals may perform. The Department's modification also clarifies that the crime-deterrent effect of a dog's presence, by itself, does not qualify as work or tasks for purposes of the service animal definition.”
@@Phoenixphires but anyone can do it for their own personal dog I assume.
@@joyfulk9services For their personal PET dog. For sure I agree go wild with safety in mind ofc, but a service/assistance animal is afforded federal protections BECAUSE they are classified as a medical aid and similar to medical aids like cane. Canes cannot have hidden weapons like blades or spikes on them. I sadly don’t have the exact legislature for this next comment but personal protection dogs are considered under the same pretext as a hidden weapon. In the very last paragraph I sent you it specifically address that. “ The Department decided to modify “minimal protection “ language to read “non violent protection.” thereby excluding so called “attack dogs” or dogs with traditional “protection training.” as service animals” Exactly what this dog in the video has. If you’re service animal is an at home service animal only, and you are not using it for Public access (protections afforded service animals have) and you’re also not using federal protections like the FHA (fair housing act it allows service animals to live in places with their disabled handlers were dogs normally aren’t allowed.) then by all means but I’m simply just stating that federally, technically if something were to ever go wrong. Not only the dog defending it’s handler as the ADA and some state laws does afford service dogs protections for reactions if they’re provoked. If the dog was found to have professional/traditional training. It could/would be found that the dog will not be protected and will be treated as a regular dog in a bite case and that could result in one’s dog being put down. Depending on the circumstances.
@@Phoenixphires This is a TL;DR comment. Maybe you could make a video? This dog is being trained to be personal protection dog in the service of a person in a wheelchair, not as a service dog.
Garrett I’m in a wheelchair , and I would love it if you could train a service/ protection dog for me just like this Even though I live in Canada.
It will cost you at least 20k $
Back when I went to canine vision, Lions foundation of Canada they trained dog guides, wheelchair assistant dogs as well as hearing ear dogs… Not sure if they still do the wheelchair assistant dogs although they don't do the protection work, these dogs are fully funded by Lions clubs And are in Oakville Ontario… I got my first guide dogs there🤍🤍🇨🇦

I have a 7month year old German shepherd, that’s so fearful, even when she backs at strangers she keeps running off, not bold at all, how do I deal with that ??
That's normal. GSDs are notoriously shy puppies. All you can do is keep socializing your dog and he or she will grow out of it.
Please rate Black Russian Terriers as a protection breed. I've had a couple, they are impressive, weigh in at 160 pounds, they are brilliant with kids as family pets, but they are also serious about personal protection. They will place themselves between you and anyone you are talking to, they will also place themselves between you and anyone following or advancing towards you - without training. They can be very agile, had one who jumped a 5 ft fence. As family pets they are couch potatoes and very gentle with children. One of mine had two small girls ride him on his back, he didn't bat an eyelid. Please research BRTs and give them more publicity as an all round protection and family dog. BRTs are a combination of rotties, giant schnauzers and airedales.
